Run to the sun….

Hi Tam. Have you been to Belchite? In Spain not far from Zaragoza. If you are heading that way that’s an interesting place.
I was going to mention that another moving place Franco was a right basted as well.

Also sevel towns in Spain were flatterened in Spain by German bommbers at Franco's request.

Currently now in Cahors… had a pizza for dinner and it rained a little, hopefully the weather will hold so we can get into the town tomorrow, it’s fairly large so if anyone can recommend stuff not to miss…👍🏼🍻
There's a monumental ball bearing clock that's interesting to look at. As I recall, heading into town from where you are parked go over the river bridge and turn right then it's a few hundred yards along across the road.
Also, if you make your way to the Pont Valentre from in town and then cross over the bridge you can follow the river right back to your parking area. It was a Sunday when we were there and they had closed that section of road for the benefit of pedestrians and I think it is a regular Sunday thing so you may be in luck tomorrow. On your way back along that road you'll pass a fontaine (what we'd call a spring) that is worth a look.

I'll keep that in mind for Spain
If you do you have to get tickets from the tourist office it's just up the road from the free Aire.

I caught sight of that as I drove passed today and thought I’d try and find it tomorrow as the water was crystal clear unlike the river…🍻👍🏼

Only guided tours it's only about €2.
I wouldn't belive anything P4N says. 🤣
Park4night was how I found the entrance through the cemetery 😉 it's usually spot on in my experience.

The rest of it has been left Charlie.

And to be perfectly honest In time that is exactly what should happen ... whilst it's right to remember I do think there's sometimes just a little too much remembering done . To the point that we actually have folk in the UK with paintings on vans etc of lest we forget etc the uk in particularis obsessed with the war , some still think we are at war with Germany and some politicians played on that back in 2015/16. Every nation has committed atrocities in history , there have been many many wars and in truth no one actually does learn From them it's just soundbites , that's how we have the war in Ukraine at present and all the carry on in Israel etc ...humans never learn .

So yes just leave it exactly as it was and if in a hundred years or so it's just a pile of rubble so be it ... that's true history

There's enough books. Photos etc around to show how it once was . That's enough.

I hate when they partially rebuild castles etc too . Just leave it as it was .
Nothing wrong with preserving the past Tam, without it there wouldn’t many old churches , cathedrals and castles left and many cities would look completely different without conservation.
The staging of places like that is not to deliberately change true history but to make it easier to educate people about the past, I bet lots of school groups will visit there every year👍

Last stop was Rocamadour…

We won’t forget Cahors in a hurry. A storm whipped up out of nowhere. Had a branch come down on the back of the van and needed a chain saw to free us. No real damage fortunately. Oh and quite a nice town too!

I’ll do a little thread of our travels but don’t expect much.. I’ll post some pictures occasionally…

Plymouth to St-Malo was quiet as there was only 62 vehicles loaded and it was like a ghost ship, landed to a foggy town and had a quick walk around but mostly closed.. on to Dinan…

Going to drive south and try to find a bit of sun..☀️

Must’ve been a smooth crossing judging by your picture. Dinan looking delightful as always. Safe journey.

Aye well that was the weird thing. It was a woman about 30 ish she parked it outside church got off and walked in ...no stick or anything. 🤔 she then overtook me later when I was walking round another bit.
Probably on her way to Benidorm 🤣🤣

I’m not by any trees, I need all the solar I can get….☀️😎

Not many people carry a chain saw in their van…😂😉😉

Gary, if you haven't left Oradour yet and are looking for your next stop, we found an abandoned Abbey, no facilities other than a composting toilet a couple of hours away heading south. I can try to dig out some info if it's something you fancy? W found it by accident, very secluded, we had breakfast there before driving on, though it was a few years ago!

You should have entered through the tourist office and paid ,they need the ticket money to pay for repairs 🙈

The village is free entry as it should be.

The visitor centre isn't cause they gotta create jobs for folk lol.

Not a common item. We were on a site they came along with a JCB and monsieur stood in the bucket while madame operated it. She lifted him up to get over the top of the van and cut the branch away. We were quite lucky, had been lying around the pool 15 minutes earlier. We had left roof lights open and the awning out. Van full of leaves and wet. Me soaked from hanging on to the awning. Took ages to clear up, but alls well that ends well.

Another disaster this morning, I can cope with no freezer, the heating could pack up or I could have 4 punctures in each wheel all is in significance, but after making egg on toast I’ve discovered I left the HP sauce at home…😭😭😭😭😭😩😩😩😩
Is there a lidl near you.
Their brown sauce is excellent.

No entry to the visitors centre is free but if you want to visit the village from there, you are supposed to pay.
Non monsieur

The village is free

The memorial Centre exhibition you need to pay

They can't charge you to visit a memorial , but they charge you for their exhibition.

Like a lot of places nowadays , others charge to park instead

We did when we went to Italy!!!

Martin's sister was living there and had dead trees to clear in her garden.

The rain held off and it was a pleasant walk, more to see and do then I thought, a pleasant surprise was the restaurants and shops weren’t overly tourist expensive, you could get a plat du jour on average for €14-€20 and Cintia bought some sunglasses for €10…😎

The lift was free for me but €6.30 return for Cintia…😱

Ano but I couldn't resist 😅 I only found the cemetery entrance once I had already paid to get in😁 I even bought a book ,that was about 11 years ago I bet it's not cheep now .

Cahors, a mix of modern and old… also seems a bit unloved or it could have been the dull sky giving that impression… the rain held off and saw a few bits of blue sky. It was very quiet though I thought for a Sunday…

A quiet night at the aire and we moved on today farther south to an aire where there are services so all bad bits emptied and good bits filled up with diner and showers done…😎

On a small aire next to a river with around 5 others. One van has a large bird cage on the bike rack with pidgins in it..😳

We had a similar impression of Cahors, but a marvellous meal from memory.
