Run to the sun….

Just smiffy. Great photos Garry. (y)

I'm assuming the MH travel thing is a new experience for Cintia. Is she enjoying it all? She certainly has a happy look about her person (y)

Safe onward travels both. :)

Cheers,

Jock & Rita. :)

She’s been in the van last year for a few months Jock, she does like visiting new places but she says she misses my big comfy bed at home… ( in other words she doesn’t like getting up early, at home she can stay in bed while I’m up but not in the van..😆 )

Had the French hillbilly’s park up next to me this morning old aclass up on planks big genny out and noisy, 2 cats roaming around trying to get in other people’s vans, all lockers open and loads of junk out and talking like they’re on the phone to Dom Joly…

4 vans left within 15 mins..😆

Was going to stay here for the day but I’m off too….😏

The rest of it has been left Charlie.

And to be perfectly honest In time that is exactly what should happen ... whilst it's right to remember I do think there's sometimes just a little too much remembering done . To the point that we actually have folk in the UK with paintings on vans etc of lest we forget etc the uk in particularis obsessed with the war , some still think we are at war with Germany and some politicians played on that back in 2015/16. Every nation has committed atrocities in history , there have been many many wars and in truth no one actually does learn From them it's just soundbites , that's how we have the war in Ukraine at present and all the carry on in Israel etc ...humans never learn .

So yes just leave it exactly as it was and if in a hundred years or so it's just a pile of rubble so be it ... that's true history

There's enough books. Photos etc around to show how it once was . That's enough.

I hate when they partially rebuild castles etc too . Just leave it as it was .
You know what opinions are like Tan annd obviously France doesn’t agree with yours, most historic sites are maintained to some degree. If they weren’t there would be nothing to see, a point to mention is the Pont du Gard but Napoleon messed with that. 🤷🏼‍♂️😎

Very true, they are not many historic sites that have experienced a degree of maintenance.

As WW2 is no longer part of kids education, certainly in this country, might as well save a few euros and let nature take its course rather than modifying history. If you are going to do that you could build a maintenance free modern reconstruction out of fibreglass and plastic!

stopped for a few days along the Canal du Midi…

The hire boats were in a right state, the firm had a dry dock and working on repairing several boats, a sign on the bouts said “ no experience needed “ and it definitely showed that being the case..😆🤣 there was a cold wind today but it looks like the intending weather forecast for Carcassonne of rain for the next couple of days has waned so will be travelling there tomorrow..😎

I bought & sold a few boats to leboat and their sister company in Ireland Emerald Star, the abuse those boats got was unbelievable, they were forever getting grounded on some of our lakes here on the Shannon, probably why Lough Derg & Lough Ree are 2 of the busiest lifeboat stations in Ireland and the UK! lol

In the early 90’s when I used to fish in Ireland for many years we rented a holiday boat for the week or two from Carrick on Shannon I took a short cut across one of the loch’s and ran up a huge rock that was under water far from the bank, I had to get in the tender and jam an oar under the boat and just managed to get off the rock…😰

It was also the time when we went into a lock to go up the next level and i wizzed up the ladder on the side of the lock and the lock keeper was standing there and as I popped up onto the bank on my arse he shouted in shock “what the feck happened to you” thinking I had just cut my legs off in the lock…😆🤣😂 he nearly had a heart attack…😂

Cahors, a mix of modern and old… also seems a bit unloved or it could have been the dull sky giving that impression… the rain held off and saw a few bits of blue sky. It was very quiet though I thought for a Sunday…

A quiet night at the aire and we moved on today farther south to an aire where there are services so all bad bits emptied and good bits filled up with diner and showers done…😎

On a small aire next to a river with around 5 others. One van has a large bird cage on the bike rack with pidgins in it..😳

A sunny and warm day to wander around the village…

A once prosperous village with many shops and trades…

I was surprised how certain items were still preserved like the abundance of sewing machines and some of the cars and the wires for the electric tram way but also how the buildings had deteriorated. The village is bigger than I anticipated. The entrance information was a lot about the build up and the war itself with a main focus on the village and I was a little disappointed that English was not supported on all the information whereas German was. I was in awe at the depravity humans can can get to….😔

I’m glad I went to see it, us humans have a macabre sense on wanting to see advents like this, I went to Dachau concentration camp and that upset me to think of the thousands who perished there and today was no different for the hundreds that died here.

I did however feel that I was at an attraction rather then a memorial site, certain items placed to attract a photograph, renovations taking place and even building what seemed like new ruins..? The questions the village gave me that weren’t answered like why did they in the short timescale did they burn every single house down in a sizeable village…

What really got to me was the mention that there were French collaborators with the German soldiers there and also there was something about the whole situation being forgotten about or swept under the carpet and the place didn’t get recognition for what happened there for quite some time… unless I’ve misunderstood some of the writing about the place.

I will endeavour to read up on it as I have unanswered questions on it.
But like I said, I tend to have a good imagination and I can only guess at the horror that occurred there…

But most of all like dachau that when death comes to us we stand there and accept it is the end.
Not been but now on my list to visit.
