Run to the sun….

Ha I didn’t see that and then you mentioned it lol👍😆😆😆😆, yes parts of it are fine, it is wobbly but the Main Street is gorgeous , roc du gageac is good to, and sarlat de la caneda ( spelled wrong) is a gorgeous town too👍, and yes the old centre of carcasonnne is very pretty
A massive great market in Carcassonne on a Saturday, all on the flat.

The old city of Carcasonne is mainly cobbled streets and some are quite steep Garry, so you need to plan which way you enter the old city.
There are a few entrances but one has a flat ish car park and easy entrance.

It’s also the place to get a cassoulet for lunch.

Rocamadour had a lift when we were there yonks ago. Once you get up the big bit from the aire it's not too bad as I recall, I was younger then of course.

From this picture taken a year ago it appears there are lifts..👍🏼 so that another place on my list…😎

Yes I’ve been a few times phill, Cintia will like it there…😎

Carcassonne is great but full of shops selling tourist crap and can get very busy in the season. Loads of restaurants some OK and some rubbish. Still one of our favourite places though.
But it's not in season and it is a tourist place same as tower of London

Rocamador is spectacular. There were definitely lifts earlier this year when we were there. Another vote for Sarlat and Carcasonne too.

Fog this morning but it has cleared now to blue skies and sunshine ☀️ found a bottle of HP under the seat which I forgot about so all good on the breakfast score…
Will be going into Oradour-sur-Glane village today, will probably stay another night on this aire before moving on tomorrow.. it’s only €5 to stay on this aire for 5hrs for a service and electric but this morning saw someone park outside and walk in to empty their cassette and fill containers several times to fill their van with water now I’m a semi-FLT but I’ll pay if it’s where I want to be…

Have a good day and thanks to those who gave me suggestions on our onward travels as we will definitely be visiting them…👍🏼☀️😎

Came back to the aire from visiting the village and passing a van someone shouts smiffy…!!😱

It was Ian the fridge, Howard 51 that Me and Tam Northernraider went to Newquay to buy his fridge for tams van, he had no idea we are out here…. What a coincidence…😳😳

It seems to be a year for fridge problems lol.

Fortunately my ( your old old one ) is working great . Freezer does very well , fridge wasn't getting quite as cold as I'd have liked but now it has a fan fitted it's keeping down around 5/6° on setting 3 , fan does run most of the time but it doesn't use much power at least.

A sunny and warm day to wander around the village…

A once prosperous village with many shops and trades…

I was surprised how certain items were still preserved like the abundance of sewing machines and some of the cars and the wires for the electric tram way but also how the buildings had deteriorated. The village is bigger than I anticipated. The entrance information was a lot about the build up and the war itself with a main focus on the village and I was a little disappointed that English was not supported on all the information whereas German was. I was in awe at the depravity humans can can get to….😔

I’m glad I went to see it, us humans have a macabre sense on wanting to see advents like this, I went to Dachau concentration camp and that upset me to think of the thousands who perished there and today was no different for the hundreds that died here.

I did however feel that I was at an attraction rather then a memorial site, certain items placed to attract a photograph, renovations taking place and even building what seemed like new ruins..? The questions the village gave me that weren’t answered like why did they in the short timescale did they burn every single house down in a sizeable village…

What really got to me was the mention that there were French collaborators with the German soldiers there and also there was something about the whole situation being forgotten about or swept under the carpet and the place didn’t get recognition for what happened there for quite some time… unless I’ve misunderstood some of the writing about the place.

I will endeavour to read up on it as I have unanswered questions on it.
But like I said, I tend to have a good imagination and I can only guess at the horror that occurred there…

But most of all like dachau that when death comes to us we stand there and accept it is the end.

Looks an interesting place.

I feel the same way with the thought of tourist attraction over memorial though.. I got that feeling at a lot of the d day landing places where they were selling bullets ,helmets etc found on the beaches from the dead soldiers . That's a bit upsetting.

It definitely was worth it Tam, I’ve been meaning to visit for a long time and glad I did. I wouldn’t want to put anyone off from visiting, we all have our own views on life and such…

I only shouted ‘Smiffy’ as I had forgotten your real name (Gary), did mean to shout ‘Just Smiffy’ though, my apologies
I didn’t realise you were doing a blog for your trip so will now follow.
It was great meeting up and thanks for the sticker - it all made for a great day.
PS - See you are looking at Carcassonne, we have some caravanning friends who stayed there last year (September 2023) and got an infestation of ‘stinky’ bugs, which has taken them ages to get rid, not sure if still around in November, perhaps others will advise better
PPS - Thanks for the sticker - One and All 🏴‍☠️

Agree, what I found a bit disconcerting was that they build the new town right next to it. Just didn't seem right.
