Run to the sun….

We went to Oradour in November 2016. There was only one other couple walking around. It was still and eiry because you were always thinking about what happened there. My wife would not even go in the church knowing what happened. I think everyone should go to these sort of places to realize how lucky we are. If you don’t shed a tear you’re not human.

Oradour is a true museum of atrocities , I’m glad I’ve been , a friend who visits WW2
Historical sites every year tells me that Oradour wasn’t even the village that the SS were after which makes it even sadder

I look forward to your thread , you deserve a rest lol , hope you both have a lovely trouble free trip & thank you for sharing it with us , best wishes , kenny & Tracy

Another disaster this morning, I can cope with no freezer, the heating could pack up or I could have 4 punctures in each wheel all is in significance, but after making egg on toast I’ve discovered I left the HP sauce at home…😭😭😭😭😭😩😩😩😩

You may be surprised by what you can find in some French supermarkets these days. We found Marmite and Tetly tea recently. Never looked for HP sauce but it might have been there. You probably need to be in an area with lots of Brits like the Dordogne for the best chance.

We found cathedral city cheese in a couple, and in amongst the French cheese.

I reminded you not to forget your bras and knickers, I didn’t know you needed a reminder for HP sauce ::bigsmile:

Gary, in case you didn't know and a lot of people actually miss it, there is a small 'museum' under the cemetery area, displaying personal items from the village. It's quite a moving experience on its own.

It seems inappropriate to suggest that you should 'enjoy' the visit/experience but it's one you won't forget

Best wishes

Yes agree the museum bit was one of the most moving bits. It's the everyday and personal aspect of the exhibits.

Finally drove out of the fog on the way down and celebrated with a small lunch of frites sitting in the warm sun…☀️

Got here this afternoon and has a siesta so will go into the village tomorrow, I thought this aire was free but it’s a camping carpark aire so I did the duty full paying bit and got a card, it’ll come in handy along the way I’m sure…. It’s €9.50 for 24h with electric so plugged in and got the hot water going so showers to night 👍🏼 there’s a few here and it’s t-shirt and shorts weather…
Now got fish and spicy wedges cooking in the remoska….😋

I have no idea as to where I’m going next but I want to go to Carcasonne but in no hurry whatsoever so if anyone can suggest anything old interesting and architectural culture is good for me, not into big cities but will park outside and go in if there’s something great to see…

Like your nail varnish Just smiffy

Sarlat? There is an aire there but it's €15 for an unlevel carpark, there is free camping car parking at the Carrefour a little further out of town.

Brantome? The aire is by the river very close to the town, it was being upgraded last time we were there so I don't know how much it is now.

Brantome is perfect but it’s a bit far out of the A20 corridor that I’m wandering down but Sarlat is great, it’s on my list Helen…🍻
