Red warning triangle in Spain

Whilst many don’t seem to like the new requirements, having bought one in 2023 in Spain I am a little disappointed it is not valid as it does not talk to the authorities BUT it is a fantastic bit of kit, very bright and clearly visible. These should be required everywhere. When in the UK I carry it in my car all the time if not away in the van. 😊 I’ll get a new one too that is compliant and use them both, one at each end. 😜

A good appraisal Roy and may I add that for the cost , ease of use and effectiveness these could be used by hillwalkers to great effect, if lost or unable to continue due to injury..these easy to spot devices are very functional.
I've used hazard lights to guide an ambulance to a location where I had attended a medical emergency in a crowded Camperstop...this beacon could be used to the same effect...🤔😃

Do you mean rear lights with a number plate as most tow bar mounted cycle carriers have?
Yes I didi
Hi gus-lopez. Are you saying I can have a bike rack protruding up to 15% of my total chassis length, so in my 6.36m PVC I can extend up to max of 0.954m AND as usual I display the marker board too which fits in my cover . Over that protrusion I cannot have it at all. Cheers for clarifying

PS just checked mine, it measures 1000 mm wide by 720mm deep so would be within the 15%, but not had it been10% 😊
Yes
I doubt you'd be prosecuted for not deploying in those cases...
As long as you had your reflective vest ion when you got out.
So are you saying that a bike carrier with number plate, lights and a marker sign on the bikes/cover, the 15% max extra length limit is not applicable?
Yes.

What is the legality or otherwixe of displaying such a beacon on a private vehicle in countries other than Spain?

So if you break down in a camper in Spain how the hell do you put a warning beacon on top when top can be 3M up high?
Put it as high as possible
This has a suction mount, as mentioned in the guide, so it can be attached to a flat non-ferrous surface, like a window, side or rear panel of a coachbuilt as high as possible. It’s quite obvious that the intent it for it to be visible to other vehicles from as far away as possible, hence flashing and mount it high up.

I’d expect it not to be an issue, but the radio “position beacon” function will almost certainly not be responded to.

These ones are availaible on Amazon approx £15
If the intended use of these flashing beacons is to warn other vehicles of your presence...then these cheap one would suffice...however a secondary use is to provide communication between yourself and an emergency call out centre.
The reason for your vehicle stopping...breakdown, accident, fire or medical emergency.
The call out centre needs to know what service you require....for this reason, I suggest we all need to know that 112 is the number we all should use....this will connect you to a multi- lingual operator....that's where the confusion can be avoided using a flashing beacon....it's location sensor will pinpoint your location and relay this to a call centre...afterall whilst driving could you state where you are with confidence throughout your journey...in an event of an emergency..🤔🇪🇦

I just did a quick forum search on this, and nothing came up. I didn't want a lot of groans and yawns because it was old hat.

I have just been sent this. “Spain's transport ministry is bringing in a new law requiring all vehicles to be equipped with an orange flashing warning light - including drivers visiting from France or other European countries.

If you are visiting Spain by car, you will soon need to buy a new piece of equipment, thanks to a change in Spain's road safety laws.

From January 2026, drivers in Spain will replace the red warning triangle with an orange fashing light, known as a V16, that goes on the rooftop of the car in case of accident or breakdown. “

What shocked me was this … “In fact it is already required for camper vans, and has been since 2023. The new law covers all vehicles that are driven on Spanish roads, including those registered in another country. Rental vehicles hired in Spain should supply the lights once the law comes into force.”

I certainly didn't know that.

Sorry but I would have thought that the hazard warning lights would have been sufficient but no geolocation facilities and, as others have pointed out, the design and construction of a coachbuilt motorhome doesn't lend itself to any temporary roof mounted beacons.

The concept has been well documented and a visitor to that country should comply with its motoring laws and regulations...the idea of an independent warning device is because of a total failure of a vehicles electrics, a means of warning other drivers and requesting assistance would be possible...I carry one in each of our vehicles and know first hand of their effectiveness.

I have also read a post on this and decided to buy a pack of these orange flashing led warning lights, before the market decides to increase the price. Got a pack of 6 in their own bag for £25.

I have used what3words in the past to give breakdown services my location in France. Do they use it inSpain?

I imagine it's used here also, never used it, does it require language skills...

Great deal but...

...if they don't have the 'location' feature, I don't see the price rising - given that they effectively 'expire' at the end of this year (at least in Spain!)

And I guess they're going cheaper, because nobody will need them anymore (supply-demand law, if this is the correct English term...)

Hi made this up, fits in the glove box, magnetic base predrilled , suction caps fit nicely.

It's easy to open the rear window and stick it high or use to van steps.

Surely the need for any 'home-designed/made' solutions, however wonderfully inventive, emphasise a gap in the market and/or a failing in the legislation?

You do also get suction cup ones that you can just stick on.

Where do you find the suction type. Do you have a link please as I have not found any yet

#metoo

As in anyone got an Amazon.es link for a suction mount one please! ✔️

Earlier in the thread, it was stated that the act of the magnetic base connecting with the car roof activated the device. I'm presuming there's a selection of different methods of fitting and activating then?

Good to know and I appreciate it's possible to buy something compliant on amazon.es (albeit mixed reviews) but...

it would be useful to find a UK supplier.
Anyone?

Mine which arrived today has a magnetic base and a button to activate it

We will probably get a couple for Christmas, ;) Janie said one will do, just leave a note in the motorhome say don't forget the light, I can't see that working. 😁

See was showing a friend the alert cops 👮‍♂️ app when it first came out and accidentally hit the send button, straight away cancelling it, they phoned and asked if she was OK twice told her the exact location, she apologised said she was showing a friend and was very impressed with the app. 😁 Bob.
