Red warning triangle in Spain

We will probably get a couple for Christmas, ;) Janie said one will do, just leave a note in the motorhome say don't forget the light, I can't see that working. 😁

See was showing a friend the alert cops 👮‍♂️ app when it first came out and accidentally hit the send button, straight away cancelling it, they phoned and asked if she was OK twice told her the exact location, she apologised said she was showing a friend and was very impressed with the app. 😁 Bob.
That’s good to know about the App. I have it but never had cause to use it 😊

Here’s how I use mine on non metal surfaces

The home-made bracket has its shortcomings. Is it not the idea that it should be visible through 360 degrees?
I agree, but also remember that if it is not 'homologated' it is not legal, and the Spanish Police will issue a fine if they see you using it.

How do you place a flashing beacon on 3 metre high MH? especially when it's aluminium? When broken down on a motorway, no hard shoulder and mad drivers passing as close as they possibly can ?
I have two of these magnetic based beacons. I bolted a small bit of metal bar into the channel on the bike rack. I also got a foot long piece of thin bar bent into a u, (or n) shape, that I can hang out of a side window to attach the beacon. This allows a beacon on the rear and one on the road side of the van.
Other options might be to attach to any bit of suitable metal on the roof, that you can reach from a skylight.

This is actually a serious question.
As these new triangles need a magnetic surface to activate, and most motorhomes do not have a magnetic surface at the rear.

My solution (not tried it yet), would be to get a baking tray out of the oven.
Using the rear skylight over the bed, put the baking tray on the roof.

Put the Triangle on top of the baking tray!
And hope the baking tray doesn't blow away ! 😁

Simple idea place the beacon on top of a tin of baked beans and put the baked beans on the roof through the skylight.

This will give the beacon a bit of height to be above roof lights, solar panels et cetera
Buy one cheap one without geolocation and one with and place one at the front and one at the back of the van.
Any recommendations regarding brand of beans?

If the intended use of these flashing beacons is to warn other vehicles of your presence...then these cheap one would suffice...however a secondary use is to provide communication between yourself and an emergency call out centre.
The reason for your vehicle stopping...breakdown, accident, fire or medical emergency.
The call out centre needs to know what service you require....for this reason, I suggest we all need to know that 112 is the number we all should use....this will connect you to a multi- lingual operator....that's where the confusion can be avoided using a flashing beacon....it's location sensor will pinpoint your location and relay this to a call centre...afterall whilst driving could you state where you are with confidence throughout your journey...in an event of an emergency..🤔🇪🇦
What three words is a very useful app for location and it covers the world.

'Tin' - you quaint old-fashioned people.

Cans are now aluminium and therefore not magnetic, I have just checked with fridge magnet to be sure. So a waste of several threads on here.

When I worked at H.J. Heinz in 1962 using the word 'tin' instead of can was a sackable offence, because of the then history of tin poisoning.

Mmm...don't be too sure....all our veg/beans type tins are still made of steel and are magnetic.

Mr Google seems to agree....Food cans - like canned beans or fruits - tend to made of steel.

Earlier in the thread, it was stated that the act of the magnetic base connecting with the car roof activated the device. I'm presuming there's a selection of different methods of fitting and activating then?
They can be activated manually if not by magnet.

The guidance says as high as possible, it doesn’t require 360 degree visibility. They can be attached to the side of the vehicle, hence the option of a suction mount for vehicles which do not have a ferrous body panels suitable for magnetic mounting.

We were in Spain last week asked a policeman about this we were in our van so he could see the problem. He advised that as long as the flashing light can be seen from vehicles approaching from the rear and the side of the van that is in the traffic lane what I had made was acceptable as the surface is non magnetic the rules are as high as practicable. As I have two he said one towards the front offside (left hand side UK) and one at the rear offside as close to the back on the back would be accepted.

But it would not apply to a foreign vehicle.

but is rarely used here as Peavy pointed out

But the description for this doesn't mention contacting emergency services automatically, so not legal when rules change in 2026, unless I've misunderstood the requirements.
This one certainly is homologated https://www.bowerspartsonline.co.uk...ignal-v16-approved-amber-warning-beacon-light

I understood gus-lopez was referring to the homologation not aplying yo foreign vehicles, because that is a Spanish system.
Yes, I understood that too, which is why I ask. I think you'll find that in terms of 'safety' items all vehicles are bound the same, no matter where they come from.

I don't think there is any obligation for triangles in the UK so, as I read it, it looks like we'll have to shell out for one of them thar furrin gizmos.
