He said

In the interest of safety it’s best to be legal.
As we are talking about a number plate I think he did infer such 🤷‍♂️
No, I wasn't referring to how safe his driving might be. I was referring to being able to easily identify a vehicle. Flip the scenario and imagine that Joe public is observing from a distance, what he thinks is a 7.5t white lorry being broken into by a couple of scumbags, who then drive off?

Correct spacing would be a safer bet in identifying the vehicle then? Do you see now why I used the phrase "in the interest of safety"

Being pedantic a lorry being broken into and stolen having incorrect spacing on a number plate hasn’t a lot to do with “in the interest of safety” imho.

Maybe I’m just weird but if I saw said lorry being stolen I’d call the Police and say the lorry is easily identified as the number plate is all wrong.

As opposed to them having to look for a white lorry amongst the thousands in circulation 🤷‍♂️

Also I’d guess they would remove the plates when nicking it 🤔

I’ve often wondered where people would stand ref insurance. As technically the vehicle is illegal and not up to the correct legal standard for driving on the highways, would there be a loophole for them to jump through when a claim is made and not pay out 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

It's a bit like the Angles mortes stickers I have been away for 2 months so far around Scandinavia and only seen a handful of vans with them on and 95% of them were 3.5t or under do they put them on to make out their vans feel bigger.🙂

I used to have a friend (yes, I know probably not very believable!) who had a personalised plate with the incorrect spacing who changed it back to the "correct" plates when taking it for an MoT.

Wonder if "personal plate man (or woman)" carries clip-on approved plates in the back in case of an accident?

Whilst not legally spaced I think an insurance company would struggle to not pay out as the vehicle is roadworthy in a mechanical sense.

Probably the same could be said for illegall tints 🤔

Not sure about the plates but would tinted windows be a modification to the vehicle that would have to be declared to your insurer as a material fact to enable them to assess risk?

Why do people buy an expensive MH then put an illegal number plate on it.
Do they think because they’re got money they can.??

Actually the spacing isn’t too far out, the space between the second O & R is a bit closed that’s all

Police can impound a vehicle for illegal tints or insist they are removed before the vehicle can move any further. Highly dangerous.

Would it be considered a temporary modification as is the plates?

I have no idea 🤷‍♂️
But if thinking logically I’d put them at the same level, but who knows.

I’ll be honest if it’s a choice of the owner getting done for that plate or some prat getting done for speeding or no mot, instance etc etc.

I know which I’d prefer 🤷‍♂️

I'd prefer both but the police seem incapable of doing much these days.

Private plates, you’re kidding, I can think of many things I would like to spend my money on other than a “private number plate”

I have a word for people who have them on their vehicles!

Maybe to solve the problem of is it lawful / it's only a bit of fun.

On any respaced / contrived number plate there should be a sticker / printed letters above the respaced letters and numbers saying what the respaced letters & numbers are trying to say, and below the respaced letters & numbers should be a sticker / printed letters saying what the original number plate looked like.

Go on then, pray tell.

Pray tell us!

We are all entitled to spend our hard earned on whatever we like.

Just because something is not your idea of money well spent doesn’t make it a reason to dislike or discriminate against them.
Hm. Guess you have private plate on your van.

As you say you can spend your money on anything you choose, your choice.

My views on private plates are also my choice!

So after skimming through the posts I've discovered it's supposed to be Morello? Not particularly obvious if that was the intention and I agree with Paulypaul that it's difficult to recall the reg plate if needed without a longer than normal glance.

But you did tell us all you have a word for those of us who do have private plates but seem reluctant to share that information. So why tell us in the first place?

Plod generally won't be wasting time on just an incorrectly spaced registration plate unless it's unreadable or there is some other issue.
It's at MoT time that it becomes relevant - automatic fail if the tester does the job properly.

Does anyone know of any other country that allows number plates to be "adjusted" at the whim of the owner - I don't think so.
So why should we be different?
