Pay before we pick it up?

If the total purchase is at or just under 30k I only pay by credit card and never before inspection. S75 of the consumer credit act helps protect you. In fact only part needs to be paid by credit card.

It's not quite as easy as it first appears or perhaps once was
if buying private owner can check cash has gone in his account any day of the week, including weekends
When dealing with one man band traders virtually the same applies He the sole trader can check his bank
Larger dealers who have accounts department do not give lowly salesmen access at all and have to rely on office staff to confirm payment received so no Sat or Sun Pickups im afraid unless paid and cleared by friday.
Im in similar situation with added problems change my pick up and pay plan for Saturday NO office staff moved to Friday
Online Lloyd max in one day is 25k so not enough to to pay and drive away, there solution find a branch and do it from there, 250K daily limit??? nearest branch 40 miles away
Tried requesting bank get ready and authorise in excess of limits ie put something on the system. No can do we could place a paperback edition of request but the system is set at Max, So jobs a gooden, Im leaning to keeping it under the mattress again, except dealers cant take more than 10K due to laundering laws, we've gone mad!!!!!
Im relying on a little loop hole to get the job done, if it fails its been a wasted 6 hrs return trip.
Who is it that places the best deals 100s of miles from your location is it Murphy or Sod ?
You could do what we did when we've paid for stuff over the bank's daily transfer limit, we use more than one account - so long as it's either with another bank or the same bank in someone else's name (ie not a joint account) there's no problem.

Stocking finance would not be secured on the vehicles. It would be against the company.
Normally when a dealership provides finance as an agent for say Black Horse then Black Horse will finance their stock.
Not necessarily, I seem to recall a thread on here either last year or the year before, about someone who had bought a MH and then found out it had a 'lean' against it from the dealership!

Agree with Mel, the stocking finance is in many cases not shown against the chassis but is ultimately secured by the chassis

I agree, don't pay for a van unless you have seen it!
Also don't think they guy was unreasonable with his Saturday comments either. A salesman probably does not have access to the companies bank account to check payment!

Can I just ask, with so much money changing hands, why some companies do not make provision for weekend banking? We’re a 24 hours, 7 day a week society now......it’s a question not a criticism of anyone. (y)

Yup, that's it, this is the start of the conversation about the issue a member had:

Even some banks don't work at weekends, lots of standing orders, direct debits etc don't get paid until the first working day so a dealership ain't gonna.

Probably because company accountants are more senior than sales people. Sales people have to work weekends, they dont!

Even if you make a transfer on a weekend there is no guarantee that it will show up in a companies bank account immediately

With a debit card obviously they have confirmation from the machine immediately.

You would not give salesman access to the companies bank account, far too much confidential information in there

Also, we work the same, Saturday collections are fine if a customer wants to collect. However I always make it clear, we have 1 tech in until 12pm on a Saturday and no way of checking if payment has been made. If they want to collect then we need cleared funds the day before. Ultimately, if a customer said on Saturday, trust me I have paid you. I let the vehicle go. I can imagine the phone call Monday morning when we were £60,000 light as a company!

If the customer was happy to show you his/her bank account giving proof that they have made the payment would that not suffice?

I would be happy in that situation but it would be at my discretion. I wouldn't allow my sales guys to make that call to protect them and the business.

Ah, so you're happy to work all weekend then to provide an absolute stonking service to customers ... nice to know! :giggle:

I normally end up working at weekends!
Had last Saturday off, customer collecting a van wanted to meet me. Came in with both dogs, puppy crapped on the floor in reception, customer walks in just as I am on poo bag duty... Whole place stunk........
Ended up in work for 3 hours as I happened to check a couple of emails whilst here!

But if you’re about to hand over a £100k vehicle (let’s just say), the company knows it’s going to happen so why not arrange for an appropriate adult;).....sorry, I mean member of accounts to be there to ensure a smooth handover?

If you’re expected to go the extra mile, why shouldn’t they?

Because accounts personal will be hourly paid.

Interesting posts, I recently almost bought an Autosleeper privately having notified the Royal Bank previously of my intentions, I was told that everything would be ok. Having travelled from Scotland to London to view and buy the van, I was told that the maximum withdrawal on a personal account was £20000 per working day, since the van was over £30000 I withdrew and went home minus the van. I have since bought another Autosleeper but this time used my business account which has a daily limit of £50000 which I originally hadn’t been told. Just a cautionary tail for people using bank transfers.

You can use CHAPS it has it no limits, although it has the higher charges.

We bought from Motorhome Depot in N Ireland so paid all bar £2k as it was delivered to us in Liverpool. A few wonky bits so got them fixed, subtracted the cost (agreed) and transferred the balance. Worked fine.

Picked it up from Cranhams upminster, all went nice and smooth, Paul the salesman we have been dealing with took his time and explained everything but of course only half gets taken in. He also put all the Swift stuff in one folder and the Fiat in another, so theirs now a stack of bedtime reading, a nice touch I thought
Paid via bank transfers keeping under the £10,000 faster payments limit and that went through quickly, so we drove off happy.
The wife is now happily spending money on things for it.

From our experience we would recommend Cranhams upminster.

When I bought my van from AMC Hailsham they said bring your debit card on day of collection. Which I did no extra charges no fuss good hand over. I must have been lucky 😀👍🏼

It all depends on card merchants now a days.
I can take a debit card at my discretion however we get charged as a group 2.5% on credit cards and now debit cards too.

i would be very suspicious of any dealer that would not accept a debit card
