Pay before we pick it up?

if guarder will take debt card using chip and pin then fine up to 99,000
I did 70k once all ok
But dealer will get charges

Absolutely correct, if the dealer wants a sale he should be bending over backwards to get your money any way you wish to give it to him.

Perhaps he had had a better offer and wanted to put you off.

I paid balance for my last van with Debit card, £55,000 put pin in and it took about 5 seconds to complete, no phone call or anything to confirm, looked on my bank app about 1 minute later and the money had already left my account and the dealer confirmed they had received it at the same time.

Why would a dealer take a card and cost him money when you can do a transfer and its free to all

I don't think you would be in business for long with that rule

Last one I bought had a px and when I arrived they had a detailed look at it and said I would have to pay another £150. Once it was clear I would be walking out the door they took the debit card for the original agreed balance.
I would never pay every up front and this proved that it was a good decision

Gerby

What

hi Monty don not sure what you are asking but if it is ref the amount charged for debit transaction then I got it from an advice site used by small business's.

"Merchant Service Charge: The charge on every credit or debit transaction you accept. Typically around 0.25-0.35% for debit cards, 0.7-0.9% for credit cards and 1.6-1.8% for commercial credit cards. A premium can apply if the card is issued outwith the EU, if the cardholder is not present or if the payment is made online."

sure that's a reasonable range pretty good rates but non the less a charge to a business and on a motorhome a big number

mine was over 100k so if the dealer took a debit then £350 in charges
if he did take a card why when transfer is free

whatever

Dealer phones me about picking up our new to us van on Saturday he wants us to pay now, not keen so l say will pay Saturday via debit card, he says they don't take dB cards as payment anymore and can't accept bank transfer on weekends as accounts dept only work week days so he can't confirm payment.

I want to see the van before paying for it to make they have done what the said they would do, I feel that knowing we haven't paid will concentrate their minds on getting it right for us to pick up

After a bit of a chat we decided to pick up next Tuesday. Think he's a bit peeved.
It’s really sensible to check it over before paying, I live in Essex and went to Newcastle to check the van out a week before collection even then I double checked before transferring the money so reckon you’re doing the right thing.

Marquis always want payment 3 working days before collection. They said all the jobs i pointed out and agreed doing were done, after handover i drove straight to the service dept to point out the jobs they missed including the jobs they said they had done :banghead::banghead::banghead: . I wont buy from them again

debt card costs them money

Debit card is fixed fee someting like £1 -3 max per transaction..
Credit cards cost on a percentage basic so even at 1% that does then add some extra costs.

We had the same issue. We transferred the money onto a debit card and warned the bank that we would be making the payment. When we got to the dealers the Motorhome was not ready. Loads of things not working! Took them a week to fix everything. Don’t pay until you have seen it and are happy. Good luck.

Are you sure it was a credit card? We've been able to pay a chunk on one before but never that much! Of course we made sure it was our cashback card that paid us 1% on payments! :giggle:

The business has taken two large ones £67k and £113k and they both went straight through, one delivered to Bishops Ave,London and one to the Clients own Jet at Heathrow, people with serious money.

His nose must be very long. What s load of crap he's saying.
I've been there and done that to the tune of a £22,000 loss to me.

Very wise. We paid up front for a van a year ago from a big dealer near Stafford, an ex showroom van. When we went to pick it up, despite being told it was in tip-top condition, there were so many faults with it, we rejected it and asked for our money back. In the end we got it all back but not after suffering a load of crap about what we were entitled to, other options and the offer of a free solar panel if we accepted the van! Read the business T&C’s; even after you have paid, you can still reject the van and insist on a full refund.

Personally if it’s an option I would use debit or credit card with a dealer rather than bank transfer. You will find it easier I think to request a refund should any issues arise.

It's over £30 grand so no protection on either card.

Ollery is that correct? I didn’t know that.

Debit card payments are no longer free or minimum charged, most service providers all work on a % now so on a large purchase it could run into £100's rather than minimum charge, obviously, they are not making enough money so penalising merchants for accepting debit cards.

It's not quite as easy as it first appears or perhaps once was
if buying private owner can check cash has gone in his account any day of the week, including weekends
When dealing with one man band traders virtually the same applies He the sole trader can check his bank
Larger dealers who have accounts department do not give lowly salesmen access at all and have to rely on office staff to confirm payment received so no Sat or Sun Pickups im afraid unless paid and cleared by friday.
Im in similar situation with added problems change my pick up and pay plan for Saturday NO office staff moved to Friday
Online Lloyd max in one day is 25k so not enough to to pay and drive away, there solution find a branch and do it from there, 250K daily limit??? nearest branch 40 miles away
Tried requesting bank get ready and authorise in excess of limits ie put something on the system. No can do we could place a paperback edition of request but the system is set at Max, So jobs a gooden, Im leaning to keeping it under the mattress again, except dealers cant take more than 10K due to laundering laws, we've gone mad!!!!!
Im relying on a little loop hole to get the job done, if it fails its been a wasted 6 hrs return trip.
Who is it that places the best deals 100s of miles from your location is it Murphy or Sod ?

If you pay by CC or DC and it is a personal one the dealer pays a flat fee of 21p dependant on the facility provider, if you pay by company CC or DC it is a percentage of the total amount you pay on the card, I have that facility and WorldPay charge me a flat fee of 21p for personal CC or DC no matter what the total amount paid, a lot of dealers don’t like card payments because it does not hit their account until the next payment run from the card facilitators, a bank transfer is instant, in both cases the you cannot pull the payment once it has been initiated, some dealers tell you they don’t like being paid on the day because you can drive off and cancel the payment, YOU CAN NOT DO THAT, you have to go through a procedure if there is a dispute, if any of them have a problem with it WALK AWAY they have something to hide.

Brought a car recently from a main dealer. Offering to pay 10,000 cash and other 10,000 on credit card. They wouldn't take any money on credit card.wanted all on bank transfer.

Debit cards are not like credit cards i can make a payment for any amount via our machine and it costs 35p regardless whether is 100k or £5 and its done and confirmed in seconds
