P&O Ferries told to stay in port

So what has happened to the redundancy process with 90 day consultation process ?

Happened with BA cabin crew a few months ago - accept the new contract or make yourself redundant.

Most cruise ships the world over are staffed with cheap imported labour.

How long do you thing any ferry company would last if they said, 100% British crew but double the fares.

Not like they have had to worry about the cost of a pandemic for 2 years is it?:doh:
Taken out of context, without Brexit they would not be able to sack all the staff apparently, cost of pandemic of course will have cost them same as any business but hey my local pub has not sacked the barmaid and replaced her with an agency worker from Manila

Foreign owned company - I doubt British legislation applies
No working time directive
No minimum wage
etc etc

About the only thing a British government could do is ban foreign owned ferries from using UK ports
...but that would cause even more chaos to the supply chain than Brexit has.

Possibly, but they are different countries not different states under a federal system, and it is irrelevant as Dubai has no oil. AbuDhabi do, which is why he never went to Dubai.
But it's UAE that are members of United Nations, OPEC, etc not, I believe, Abu Dhabi and the other Emirates independently. The capital of UAE is Abu Dhabi so guess that's why foreign politicians meet there?

All staff have been escorted of shops in Dover told to pick redundancy notice

OK, if you want to be really nitpicky about an irrelevant fact but it doesn't escape the reality that DP Ports is DUBAI owned on UAE owned or AbuDhabi owned, which is what I pointed out to begin with

Well bottom line is a few hundred loose their jobs but I’ll never EVER use their services that’s for sure and if everyone did the same they will soon be out of a business anyway.

and all I was pointing out (with some Smilies appended) was that a politician was visiting the UAE recently.

Oh but you will...
So much is transported by lorries that will use P&O

It's like wanting to boycott Chinese manufactured goods - almost impossible

Agree with your comment. The sad truth many people are very hypocritical and will continue to use the service. Just like Ryanair.

Years ago I used P&O for import and export of earthmoving machinery, they were without doubt the best in the business.
The best customer service with good prices. Very sad to read todays reports.

Looks like all staff sacked with immediate effect and replaced with cheaper foreign crew. Barstewards.
If that’s the case, people should simply vote with their feet, just like I rather pay more then flying with Ryan Air, I gladly pay more to avoid P&O if that is how they treating their staff, disgusting style of management 😡

Thank god I'm retired, P&O used to be one of my biggest customers, 25 odd years of free ferry crossings, even with a RV+toad. Those were the days.
P&O have done this before, a few years back during an industrial dispute they were using office management to escort coaches with alternative crews to the ships.

There are more than 2 Emirates but the fact is that DP world are Dubai and Abu Dhabi is a fair old way down the road and a different country to Dubai
There are 7 Emirates and Abu Dhabi is about 100 miles from Dubai. Both are in one country being The United Arab Emirates.

Sorry DuxDeluxe not quite right. They are in the same country. Dubai does have oil and plenty of it. Abu Dhabi is the capital. 6 states run under the Federal system whilst Dubai have a relativly free range but answerable to Abu Dhabi to a certain extent.
Dubai is run by the Macktoum family, Abu Dhabi by the Nayan family

Early on in the pandemic DP World were asking for around $200m(?) in support from UK Government. Did this happen?
Think they got a few million to keep the Irish services operating though.

Think there is \ was also a shortfall of a few hundred million in P&O pension pot that may fall on UK taxpayers.

I worked there for long enough, but thanks for the correction .......... Our Sponsor in Abu Dhabi answered a question on the border from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and he said "Where the oil stops" Dubai has only about 5% of AbuDhabi reserves, the output of it peaked in 1991 and has been declining ever since, despite some interventional well management. Dubai is first and foremost a huge trading hub, which is what they are very good at

I presume that this is going to cause major problems for organisation trying to get aid out to those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. Shame on you P & O.

Perhaps ferry services should be operated on a licence basis, rather like train operators.

Therefore unless they can provide a certain service then they aren't fit to run the service.

Problem is ABP is probably foreign owned too so no reason to implement standards...

Corrected for accuracy. Sorry - could not resist it:cheers:
Now look you! If you're gonna correct for accuracy it should have been Abu Dhabi!:tounge:
