On the Galicia Santander to Portsmouth

Wow what was damaged to add up to so much. just saw earlier post re damage
Ferries have a get out clause for storm damage but I argued they put my vehicle at risk parking it outside. Claim went on for over 7 months and claim rejected several times. They eventually said I allowed them to use exterior parking.
New perspex window, replace damaged fridge parts, machine polish as one side was very badly peppered, sat dish mechanism.

Glad to hear you got it sorted but £3000 seems a lot of money for work required.

We’ve done all three, none toll roads (never again) toll roads (boring) boat. Out of the three taking time money and effort into consideration we decided the boat won. 👍
Not with 3 dogs, one of whom is terrified of ferries which is why we use Eurotunnel, the only time we'd use a ferry is if the tunnel was shut or we were going to Ireland or Isle of Wight as there's no alternative.

Also seeing how little 'insurance' cover you get from the ferry companies and the possibility of damage on this longer route no way would I risk that even without a terrified dog!

My wife has vowed never to take that ferry again. Apparently I have to drive to and from Spain via the tunnel next time.

Mine has said the same many times but we do what appears best at the time, however, the way we were treated treated by Brittany Ferries last year l doubt l will ever use them again.

Surely if your fully comp your own insurance covers you.BUSBY.

They didn't on my truck that I mentioned earlier, cannot remember now but I THINK is was classed as 'an act of God' OR 'not on the highway' or something?????
They claimed that I had voluntarily boarded and SHOULD have read the T&C's

True it should but I'd need to double check, regardless do I really want to have an 'increased risk' and/or a disrupted holiday when it is a known fact that some MHs do get damaged on these longer voyages? It was an outside loading short crossing that terrified Lily.

No I do not understand, your continental breakfast is free, the voucher is used for the cooked breakfast.
OK You know, as do I, that one can use that voucher to up your breakfast to full English but it only costs £5 ish to up to a full English, therefore one voucher pays for two upsells to full English.
What do you do with the other voucher.

What I am trying to highlight (badly) is the fact that, on morning 2, when nearing Santander, there is no 'Price per item' in the cafe. Its £9 for anything regardless of how small your tray is filled.

Think we have used that crossing 16 or 17 times since 1999,,never any bother,,one rough crossing.Been to Germany twice,,got van written off in 2010 and I wasn't even on the road ,,According to statistics (which I take no notice of) Its much safer on Spain UK ferry..BUSBY🙃😄

Don't they run smaller ferries in the off-season? Which tend to get thrown about a lot more in the winter and spring storms?

It's a shame Brittany have no competition - many sailings are full, prices might fall.

I regularly do the Spanish mainland to Mallorca and ferries are often less than half full - one trip 18 vehicles, one bike and just a couple of foot passengers

yes you can insure whilst on sorn what if a tree fell on it whilst stored?
That is what ALL the insurance companies were recommending in last years lockdown, ALWAYS keep it insured in case of break in or weather damage.
An interesting fact I found out a few years ago, while in storage on an official Camping & Caravan site, your vehicle is NOT insured unless you do it yourself. (POSSIBLY the same with C&MHC ?)

Most transport of goods of any kind has very low pay outs most removal companies and other motorised transport use the road haulage association conditions which is some thing like £20 per tonne im sure you will find similar with air freight its up to you to insure your goods in transit

The plastic window was the dearest due to its awkward size followed by the fridge parts then the sat dish and machine polish. I actually saved over £1600 on prices quoted by local dealer. He was using the same repair companies as me.
Nothing like a rip off merchant to keep you alert.

Not cheap though when I looked,,BUSBY.

Why does the new ferry take 6.5 hrs longer or is that called progress now. Bill
Different fuel being used, also now takes around 6 hours to refuel.
The Pont Aven will only be 18 hours from Plymouth but that does not start again until the end of March

There is a reason that there is no competition, none of the competitors have been able to run at a profit.

Should be plenty of room then, the first sailing is on the 27 March😀
I think that they have recently changed the schedule as last week I looked at the March 26 sailing from Santander but it would have made it 92 days in Spain so I did not book it.

Must have done around 20 crossings most of them early October or late March and the only bad crossing we had was one of the late March ones. Did have the Portsmouth Santander crossing booked for December 27 but the 30 hours or so eventually put us off and I changed it to Portsmouth Cherbourg overnight on Boxing Day.

Why should you be paying for someone elses negligence? What happens to all those t,p insured vehicles ? & yes the UK is unusual in europe for full comp on older vehicles.
