On the Galicia Santander to Portsmouth

We were used as deck cargo ( this should be at a reduced rate) on the Crap Finister, I complained hard but just received the shrug, and a promise to hose down the van with fresh water, it didn't happen, I then kept on at them and eventually I received a £50 voucher which we used on the return trip and we have never used them again.

Why should you be paying for someone elses negligence? What happens to all those t,p insured vehicles ? & yes the UK is unusual in europe for full comp on older vehicles.
Life's a shit,,BUSBY.

We did have the Portsmouth Santander crossing booked for December 27 but decided not to as its now around 30 hours so doing Portsmouth to Cherbourg overnight leaving Boxing Day at around 11pm. Still on the same boat though the Galicia.
Hi, Mike

When did you cancel?. I’m trying to get in but booked !

I cancelled at least 3 weeks after my wife said that she did not fancy the 30 hour crossing.

First they want things to last longer, now they want shorter, is there any wonder us men are confused??

When does the "bay" calm down was thinking of going early March but the big one put us off,so going to the USA instead, so now looking at mid ish April back around end of May, would it be like a mill pond then 🤞
I/We have sailed most Western European routes, including a force 11 North Sea from Norway.

The bay of Biscay has its reputation. I have crossed it by ferry many times over the last 35 years. Sometimes as many as 6 times a year. I can count on one pair of Hands the bad crossings and need just one hand for the very rough ones.

That is VERY true. MOST of the time it's acceptable from Millpond to Millrace BUT, many years ago, I sailed most of the world's Oceans, including both Capes and when it's rough, it can be VERY rough but with the modern ferries with their stabilisers etc, there should not be too many problems.

Just remember the engine room crews on the winter Russian convoys and be thankful that a torpedo hasn't got your name on it! :giggle:

Thanks for this thread.

I booked the Galacia to Santander for Aug 2022 but have now changed the route to Plymouth to sail on the Pont Aven.

We had previously had the Pont Aven booked in 2020 with Commodore 4 berth cabins etc but as we all know that trip was canned.

I was a bit disappointed with the options of the Galacia, especially the 2 night sailing and thanks to this thread I have managed to swap the booking to the PA from Plymouth. BF website only stated that the PA was going between Ireland and France so expected the Galacia or the Salamca to be the only options. Stupid me. :banghead:. This thread informed me otherwise :giggle:

Once Mrs Spawn realised the difference in facilities and the faster sailing it was an instruction rather than a request to change the route. I was not able to get the Commodore cabins though as they are all booked up which is gutting but the trip was also £300 cheaper so I'll spend that in the bar.

We had already decided not to take the hound with us next year so I was going to drop the dog cabin from the booking so nothing lost there.

If the sea is rough, you want cabins low down towards the centre of the boat. The premium stuff tends to be at the front and high up, so it moves a long way when the boat is rocking.

What cruise passengers describe as 'Pay to sway' ... But the premier dining means that you have a better class of output for the sickbag ...
