On the Galicia Santander to Portsmouth

The worst issue is any damage or loss caused at sea is paid out pennies to the pound due to some obscure law. The ferry and shipping company absolve themselves of liability in their terms and conditions

I used to regularly have to cross the Irish sea in winter, and after a few losses always rented a van from then on. The crew chain the vehicles to the deck via the wheels and axles. But any rough weather often saw chains break and HGV's slide from one side or end to the other. I have seen tractors boarded at the port to pull the wreckage out, and it's not pretty

Do not be put off by what is written, just read the T&C's and IF they are not enough just add independent insurance, BUT, most modern ships have stabilisers and are capable of meeting any challenge they might meet.
To me, the journey is just as important as the destination SO, if you DO drive down, take your time, enjoy the experience and see the history, you'll love it!

PS In my Merchant Navy days, the Bay of Biscay WAS one of the roughest stretches of water I encountered on a BAD day SO, if your not a good sailor, perhaps it's wise to avoid it! :unsure:

Sorry about that, but the vast majority of people have no idea at all what is buried in the T&Cs. 99.99% of all journeys are uneventful unless crossing rough water in a storm

That's settled then a long drive ahead!!

Bay of Biscay..... pussies.... try a rough sea in the Med.. done the bay quite few times.....worst crossings Mallorca to Barcelona (2) and Calais to Dover.
Cruised in the Med - ship ran from the weather and it was still really rough.....

North Sea in a NE Gale. In all my time at sea the only place ever taken green seas over the bridge (midships tanker) and only place ever been seasick. It is quite shallow and the swell is steep compared with big rollers in the Atlantic and Pacific. Try Cape Aghulas with 148000 tonnes of iron ore - entire watch wedged between bridge console and radar set…….

You might try just below the poop deck, on rudder change over duty, in the same conditions, MOST of the time your in the air! :pray:::bigsmile:
 
Very rough crossing.

We sat down for a meal at 8pm. Ordered food and the next thing tables and chairs were sliding across the floor and glasses and plates went flying.

A member of staff (must be new) had a sick bag.

We retired at that stage to our cabin.

Must say that the staff were excellent.

We were on the same crossing and I can confirm there were a small number of motorhomes outside on the rear deck.
We also had issues with the shower room drainage spewing out grey waste water mixed with bits of dark bits in it, to make matters worse it smelt like our waste water tank, I suppose it’s just like the Motorhome tank but scaled up a bit.
On the bright side the restaurant in the evening was quiet and the food was good.

hi guys . sorry but we wouldn't go on that crossing if you paid us .give us the drive down ANYTIME even putting up with undertaking on roundabouts ( what's all that about must be a French thing ) tunnel every time . val

When we crossed from Italy to Greece, one load master screamed at me to drive, drive. If I had listened to him, I would have run over his mate who he couldn’t see.

I was trying to exit Geneva Airport. A traffic cop was getting really angry trying to wave me on. I was trying to get into the high vehicle lane and none of the car drivers would give way. Eventually, when I pointed to the height barrier in-front of me for the tenth time. Did he then see it and stopped the traffic for me.

My ex-FIL had his Saab destroyed by a loose HGV on a rough crossing.

Had a 10m swell across Biscay three Springs ago. All confined to cabin and 7 hours late to Santander. Crew were still talking about it 3 weeks later.

Weeeee. I weigh 20stone, weeee I don't weigh anything, weeeee and repeat.

As above, worry is an HGV breaking loose.

We were on one of the old Townsend Thorensen boats with the restaurant at the stern. Our wine glasses were lifting themselves off the table...
 
Just like to say we were on Galicia 25th nov this week and we’re apprehensive about all the bad reports of food , cabins and general set up of the ship. We’ll I have to say we thought the food to be good the cabins (club class) we’re great and clean . The crossing as ever was not the best but eh oh that’s not Brittany ferries fault. We’ve also travelled on pont aven with vehicles on deck outside . And that was ok too. Everyone has different standards but we were ok with them on either ship.
The Galicia has been slagged off on here but we also found everything totally fine and enjoyed our crossing.

Not strictly true.... wine glasses staying n table plunging away leaving glasses momentarily floating in mid air before dropping back to meet table.
Yea I know... being pedantic.😂😂😂😂😂😂
