I have to admit that although we love France in cooler weather we don't like the long drive down to Spain so we'd already decided that if we did go away over winter we'd use some toll roads to get there quicker.

We’ve done all three, none toll roads (never again) toll roads (boring) boat. Out of the three taking time money and effort into consideration we decided the boat won. 👍

The Galicia has been slagged off on here but we also found everything totally fine and enjoyed our crossing.
Hi Badknee,
The aim of post was not to slag off the Galicia but highlight the bad weather.

As I have stated, the staff were great and I really enjoyed the food and service.

My motorhome was outside so salty and crusty and due a good clean.

Not sure I would travel that distance by ferry again in winter as the missus really suffered.

Interesting reading regarding T&Cs.

Isn't the insurance invalid if you SORN which would mean if it got stolen/hit/damaged etc then you won't be able to claim? I could be wrong on this but i think this is how it used to be.

We came back from Bilboa on the ferry a couple of years ago. None of the restaurants opened. The shop was only open to sell bottled water and ginger biscuits. It was roped off and most of contents of the shelves were on the floor. We had an outside cabin, every 20 seconds or so, it'd go dark just as a wave thudded against the ship. When we got to Portsmouth, they were busy screwing plywood to the sides of all the caravans and motorhomes on the edge of the open deck that had their windows smashed in. Our van was also on the outside deck, but apart from a heavy salt crusting, it was fine. Took my wife a week before all the petechial haemorrhaging around her eyes started to go from barfing so hard. Fun times.

Not unusual to see brand new Benimar vans on the rear deck with no numberplates and covered with cling film to protect the paintwork from salt damage

Whoa, it was slagged off long before your post. Not aimed at you at all. 👍

Sorry zac not sure what your on about?.

Can I give some info. for those with Club Voyage benefits on the Santander route.
If you know what I am saying OK, but, as its a new ship with new dining options it may be of use to someone.

As you know everyone gets a breakfast and dinner foc. The breakfast is Continental with an option (£5+) to convert to full English.

In addition Club Voyage members get £10 (may be €?) voucher to spend. Its on your door key card.
The ship arrives 7.00am UK time and they serve breakfast prior to arrival.

This is, in my opinion, the important bit. Anything chosen at that breakfast is charged at the full Continental rate. ie a cup of coffee is £9, a cup of coffee and croissant is £9. A cup of coffee, croissant and yogurt is, You've guessed it. £9.

In other words, if you wish to partake in that breakfast, then save that voucher.
If you are not a CV member, be prepared to either have a full English or continental breakfast but ensure you get value.

I thought that if you SORN your vehicle be it a car or whatever then legally you cannot have insurance on it.
I think you are getting confused.
If you are using a vehicle on the road then it shoudlnt be on the road if not tax, thus insurance in an accident could be void.
If insured and on your drive (sorn) and it catches fire then insurance should still be valid.

I don't understand.
Presumably you are talking about the 2 night crossing, BF Club Voyage members now get 2 x £10 vouchers to spend in any bar or food outlet.
This replaces the previous 2 x £8.50 breakfast vouchers.

If that was true getting to the MOT station would be a real problem
Good point

Good to know thanks

You do understand. You have quoted what BF now do on the two night (is there an alternative?) crossing.
What I am highlighting is the fact that at breakfast on the second day BF give no 'price per item' at the cafe. The price is £9 regardless of your choice of beverage/food.

No I do not understand, your continental breakfast is free, the voucher is used for the cooked breakfast.

We did have the Portsmouth Santander crossing booked for December 27 but decided not to as its now around 30 hours so doing Portsmouth to Cherbourg overnight leaving Boxing Day at around 11pm. Still on the same boat though the Galicia.
