No transit France.

Seeing as there are no border check in Schengen they wont know you have transited France untill you get to French /UK border , what can they do then Deport you ? :)

Nope it would breakdown before it got there!!!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sorry almost as bad as old Mo jokes!!!

Maybe we should look to boycott France and it’s products in the future.

I was one a Francophile. We never holidayed anywhere else.

But as all this continues, the angrier I get with the French. Closing tunnel, not policing the migrant situation and the fishing row !.

Now this ?
Don't forget, all this animosity was brought about by the UK's decision to leave the EU (and the way our government went about it). We left their Community, created massive problems for them, behaved like assholes.....and now we complain about them being peeved. Waken up, cool it, stop behaving like children, be a bit more civil. We've all taken EU membership too much for granted. We've gone back to the way it was in the past - the UK electorate's choice (or 52% percent of it). Blame Brexit, not the French!

Good try! :ROFLMAO:

Any excuse for a rant! But none of this will stop us taking our motorhomes to France at the earliest opportunity.
Quite! I have been cruising the waterways of the continent periodically for 40 years; before during and after membership of the EU. Don't confuse the people with the politics. Covid allowing, we will continue as before and receive the same welcome we always have.(y)

Apparently The Ban on UK travellers in France begins 11pm on Friday (as we are 3rd country non EU)

"British tourists have been banned from France amid concern over the "extremely rapid" rise in Omicron COVID cases in the UK.

From 11pm on Friday, France barred travel to and from Britain without "compelling reasons" - which do not include tourism and business."

Short memories . We were not part of the EU in the early 19th Century

This is the True meaning of Brexit!
France taking back control of their borders
This is true French. Sovereignty
All done holding an EU passport! Hahaha 🤣

You should certainly consider changing your nickname or handle.
The tunnel is because of Covid, the fishing row because of Brexit, and the migrant situation pre-dates both and arises because of the lax employment law, and policing of it in the UK, making it much easier to work undetected but illegally in the UK than elsewhere on the continent, plus the absence of an ID card, plus a labour shortage and the fact that English is a more commonly taught language in much of the Middle East than German (Germany being the most obvious other relatively high employment economy in Europe).
If you find it consoling to boycott French goods by all means do so. Practically you only have to wait a few more days and the UK will finally get around to implementing the checks on goods coming in from the EU that should have been in place a year ago but we were un-prepared for and therefore un-willing to introduce. Evidently we are now (more or less) prepared. The extra paperwork involved and checks will make the business of exporting to the UK less attractive for French, especially small, businesses and that will have a much greater impact than any individual, however determined, can have via a personal boycott. So you can relax and let the British government do the job for you, just as they have done a job on the UK exporters who used to export to France. Simples.

And perhaps more to the point this latest restriction is, as the French Consulate in the UK site makes clear, as a result of Covid and the Omicron variant and applies to all nationalities that might be seeking to enter or transit France from the UK. So they are not singling you out as a British citizen, (since it applies to all 3rd country nationals) they are restricting movement from the UK because as the British Government has said and the French unsurprisingly repeat ""the UK is going to face a “tidal wave” linked to the Omicron variant in the coming days.".

Yorick I didn’t think I needed to fully explain that it is possible to transit to the UK from Spain via Eurotunnel obviously transiting through France. I assumed you would already know that the Eurotunnel station to exit UK is in France. My mistake will have to fully explain myself for the people that do not know you cannot get a Eurotunnel from Spain.
I was trying to be helpful to people who genuinely needed this info.
Will not post how my journey goes will leave it up to someone else

I must admit I thought it was intended as hu mour. But yes it is difficult to express or determine intention of social media posts.

I would find your experience helpful with my travel plans, although we are fortunate to have another 8 weeks yet and it could change totally in that time. Up to you of course.

Has anyone got a large sticking plaster for Yorick

No.

France isn't the EU, despite what the French would like to believe. This is personal, little to do with any EU instruction, and is orchestrated by Macron as he tries to look tough before the April elections.

What bothers me is that no none has actually sat back and thought "why is looking tough against UK a vote winner". Perhaps there is a rumbling, instinctive satisfaction amongst some French folk, at putting one over on UK? I struggle with believing this, but then the only French I have interacted with, have had a vested interest in not peeing me off, as they earn their crust from tourism. The same as many of us, except those who live or have lived in France.

Nevertheless, your post completely proves the claim that France believes that we should be punished for leaving the EU.

Plenty more examples, equally supportive to the notion of the French leadership's eagerness to see UK actually punished.

Finally, this is all a bit daft. After the April elections, whether Macron or someone else gets in, there will no more need for more immature French posturing, and we will see a few years of concord - until the next election looms...

That doesn't state permanent residents in transit?

A UK citizen permanently resident in another EU country is not a "3rd country national", but is equal to a national of that country just without the passport. If they are not banning Spaniards from transiting France then to do so to residents of other EU states is totally illegal under EU legislation and the terms of the withdrawal act.

So what are peoples thoughts around conditions that need to change for this French entry (travel) embargo to be lifted?

With high case rates in France (200k yesterday), the argument of protecting from Omicron coming across the border is a red herring now; so what needs to change to enable me to travel through France to Spain on 17th Jan?
