£13 pound a month only covers breakdown in the UK. You pay extra for travel insurance abroad. Cost will vary in length of time away and age.

Read it again that is the first page outlining the Brttania cover not the new cover from March

To get FlexPlus breakdown cover

You need to:
  • have a FlexPlus account.
  • be a UK resident.

Note:

It’s not possible to have a FlexPlus account without the insurances, and you can’t buy the insurances separately.
Yes, agreed and as confirmed in post #86 cover is unchanged for motorhomes up to 8 Meters and 7.5T in Europe. Hopefully they will update there policy accordingly.

This is bad news, by coincidence I had to call on them yesterday, first time ever, as my car developed a computer fault and wouldn't unlock the steering, mechanic arrived within thirty minutes so brilliant service. I too will be raising a complaint but suspect there will not be enough of us with vans over 3500 kgs to make a difference.
Complaint sent!
There will be plenty over 7 metres. 7.4 is mine

Yes it looks like everything has been sorted by Nationwide and nothing has changed

Always led to believe that breakdown cover was also eu. This could be interesting have you got a copy of those details

PhilandMena .No that is not a new change. The £13 monthly service charge, gives you breakdown cover in the uk. Foreign travel is done through their travel insurance section, extra payment amounts, depended on how long you intended being abroad and extra for being over I think it was age 70.

Two years ago I paid something like £169 for 72 days and over the age limit. This included both of us and MH breakdown.

I think you will find the breakdown cover is automatic for UK and Europe for £13. Also the travel insurance is that price if there are no notifiable items to be notified or taking out cover longer than 30 days. There is additional costs if there are notifiable illnesses and longer trips

Only the flex plus account which is £13 a month for travel, breakdown and mobile insurance
Thanks Paul, same as my old Barclays account then. Got rid of that when I realised that the travel insurance was next to useless although I thought the full AA cover for the equivalent of £180 a year was good value, I think the AA wanted about £300 at the time.

I suggest you read it again, it does cover you abroad 😁

Correct 👍

The width of vehicle allowed is less in EU than in UK. Wonder why that is?

We are only 6.48 metres but 4.9 tonne so no good for us either.
In the brief description it states 3.5 tonne but in the policy document changes from 01/03/2022 it states.

• Maximum Vehicle Weight: 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg) gross vehicle weight
• Maximum Vehicle Weight for Motorhomes ONLY: 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight
• Maximum Vehicle Width: 8ft 3in (2.55m) which constitutes the overall width of the vehicle
bodywork excluding mirrors, measured at the widest points.
• Maximum vehicle length: 7m (23ft)*

As this is a breakdown service for all vehicles I’m reading it that at 3.95tonne my vehicle is still covered however I’ll be checking it with Nationwide.

I upgraded a Nationwide Flex Plus account (already had the standard account) in September when we were off to France/Spain for 2 months. I then discovered it was only 30 days in Europe. I did get a quote for extending to 60 days but it was quite a lot more. For me it was cheaper to get a separate travel ins policy and breakdown cover. - Actually in the end I decided to forget the breakdown cover as I decided to rely in Fiat assistance.

Been with nationwide flex plus at £13 a month for the last 5 years. £750 and all I’ve had is a jump start ?? Ok some people may have had more but seems like easy money to me and they want to end it 🤔
It is effectively an insurance policy (breakdown, personal travel, phone, etc) tied into your "free" bank account.
I've been paying approx £200pa for the last 30y on house insurance and got nothing back. Would you suggest that I shouldn't have wasted my money? ;)

Never said anything about not being insured but what ime saying is they are making a good profit (otherwise they wouldn’t be doing it) and now it’s proven as the problem is being addressed as far as I can see.

I took a punt today and opened the account. We are 6.7 metres so are covered regardless.

They do say any bike racks are included, if they quibble on the day the bikes will be chucked in the garage and the rack removed.

Worth it for me for the phone insurance with the kids, actually saves me money as I pay £150 a year for Mayday.

I think your getting breakdown insurance and travel insurance mixed up as this thread is and what I have been responding to you about, is breakdown insurance. I already have travel insurance with Nationwide Flexi Plus and no need to bring that into this tread IMO

Page 22 of this doc is still saying no vehicles over 3500kg, no mention of Motorhomes. This is the section where European cover differs from uk. Page 8 has the specs for uk cover. It seems to differ from what is being said in post 86.
If you read all of post 86# you will read that it is acknowledged by a senior Nationwide executive there is an error in the policy wording and will probably be changed on or after the 17th January.

From a motorhomer on a group on Facebook - the letter they received from Nationwide confirming this situation was an error on the policy info. - in case it helps:

The maximum vehicle height of 3m for vehicles breaking down in Europe will affect some.
My unit is 3.2 taking the satellite into account.
The current policy does not mention a height restriction for motorhomes but it does under "all other vehicles"

Is this the flex account that you pay for or is free, Caz says she is with them flex account but doesn’t pay for it
Hi Paul,

Caz's Flex acccount, for the purpose of travel insurance not longer applies, not sure about breakdown cover though, the original Flex account is no longer available, the cover provided is now under Flex Plus account,

Mine is 3.2 also it's a good get out for insurance company on a expensive repatriation of vehicle. As they will have to measure to work out which can take it back. IE height of bridges tunnel or ferry.
