Nationwide Flex Account not covering over 7 meters from 1/3/22

"Motorhomes - 8 metres in length or 7.5 tonnes in weight.
- All other vehicles - 7 metres in length, 2.3 metres in width, 3 metres in height or
3.5 tonnes in weight."

Taken from Flexplus account terms just now..... where does it inform someone of the changes to the cover in the future???

I received this letter a couple of months ago, glanced at it but as my 6m x 3.5t PVC was not effected, I just filed it (although annoyingly, it didn't mention who the Breakdown company was and I am happy that it's the AA because my local chap is very knowledgeable)
When I used them in Cirencester for the wife's car it was local garage that attended. Also a local garage in France for the motorhome.

It's from 1/3/22.
Clue in the thread title :)
No. That's not what I'm asking.
I appreciate that the New Condition's are FROM 1/3/22

When were the New Conditions Published? Did they give three months notice?
of the Introduction. I can't see a date on the PDF shown.

Have had a flex account for years, never knew about the cover though, ours comes with the Comfort insurance.

Only Flex Plus account which has a monthly charge of £13. I upgraded to it from Flex for the cover but then realised it only covers 30 days in Europe so canceled and went back to Flex Direct (There are 3 types of Flex accounts)

Am I being thick or is there no mention of motorhomes in that document?

You have to read all the info, scroll down and open up a policy document..

Section 2 of the european cover has a 3500kg limit, it is different to Section D of UK cover....

I also notice that they will not recover "if the cost of repair is £500 or less"
So they wont recover unless its a good paying job!

All tuggers are going to be in for a shock,

Please note that “car, van, minibus or motorcycle” does not include, amongst other things, electric pavement vehicles, electrical wheelchairs, bicycles (including electric bicycles), any vehicle which cannot lawfully be used on the public highway and/or any non-motorised vehicle.
  • Maximum Vehicle Weight: 3.5 tonnes (3,500kg) gross vehicle weight
  • Maximum Vehicle Weight for Motorhomes ONLY: 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight
  • Maximum Vehicle Width: 8ft 3in (2.55m) which constitutes the overall width of the vehicle
bodywork excluding mirrors, measured at the widest points.
  • Maximum vehicle length: 7m (23ft)*
*These dimensions will be calculated taking into account anything attached to your vehicle and any trailer or caravan, including but not limited to towing equipment, any carriers or racks (e.g. bike or luggage), or anything else attached to the vehicle or the carriers/racks.

My reading of the last section now makes the overall length of the vehicle and caravan 7m

Either the nationwide wants rid of breakdown cover or someone has dropped a bo bo

I'm with you. I had no idea this was occurring until this morning. There are a couple of people who appeared to have known that it was due to change to the AA.

Only the flex plus account which is £13 a month for travel, breakdown and mobile insurance

I thought the currant breakdown service was with Brittania, is that now moving to the AA?

It is, I've not had a notification of this at all, how have people found out about the change?

Exactly my thoughts.

So at the of the day we’re do we move to?

Indeed, time for some shopping as well as a bank account change.

Panic over. Have just spoken with the AA department who are taking over the contract. The nationwide document has been written wrong. The AA have confirmed that motorhomes upto 7.5 t and 8m are still covered along with caravans upto 8m.

The AA are sending me the policy document from their end showing the cover

That was when it was under Brittania.
This is what I was not happy with as it was a gamble IF one got a 'good' local garage or a 'bad' one. At least, under the AA cover, if you have a complaint, there is only one company to contact?

So why then when I start a quote on AA website I get the following

ie 7m

Indeed tge paperwork is clearly wrong. Tge as confirmed cover bit until h see it in writing I’m not sitting back waiting till I break down. So I will chase up and get anything confirmed

been sent this via another forum

Seems to say under whats NOT covered
  • Vehicles must not exceed any of the following dimensions when fully loaded:
    • Caravans and trailers – 8 metres in length (including A-frame)
    • Motorhomes – 8 metres in length or 7.5 tonnes in weight
    • All other vehicles – 7 metres in length, 2.3 metres in width, 3 metres in height or 3.5 tonnes in weight
See policy document for details on vehicle eligibility.

So, back to being ok up to 8m?

Tgat is where the big confusion is. As said earlier looking at tge way it’s been written any vehicle towing cannot be longer than 7m. Then elsewhere someone has posted it’s us covered. I’m bored and retired so will write an email to nationwide to get written clarification. I’m in a hurry as I use the breakdown cover and along with my NFU vehicle insurance combined it’s cheaper than Comfort including their breakdown cover but myrenewal us due by the 19tg

I am totally confused now given the information about the AA. Gave up trying to speak to somebody at Nationwide (if anyone has a direct number please let me know as I was sent round the houses!) will need to try this afternoon. It is going to be a real pain if the dimensions have changed as we are just under 8 metre with the bike rack and therfore are not covered.

PJGWiltshire I'd be grateful if you coudl post any replies from Nationwide. I am in exactly the same position as you but use the C&MC for insurance. I am not keen on Comfort as they have a '48 hour' unattended rule if different from the motorhome stated storage location, which I don't like but may have to lump it!

Just contacted Nationwide and logged a complaint as change of breakdown supplier I thing the more that do this the more they may re consider the changes. I was asked if I had received any update from them which I have not. Have recorded as a complaint to reconsider the change
