Motorhoming Life… A survey of the mundane - breakfast.

Early morning consists of dog walk, on the move or at home, never varies
Oh, and a flask of tea

Right now, bran flakes, just a few, topped with Greek yoghurt, and whatever fruit we have in season, (at the moment, we have a glut of raspberries) and a drizzle of eucalyptus honey. Winter time we replace bran flakes with porridge and fruit is usually banana.

Occasionally I will make Barry a bacon sandwich. Empress Grey tea for me, PG tips for Barry.

Whether we are home or away, its the same.

Welcome to the fun house Phil et al 😊

First thing it's just a mug of tea then around 10am we'll have breakfast which consists of a mug of Dow Egberts coffee along with some grub.

We often have a slice of toast with jam, choc spread or lemon curd on, sometimes the little pancakes or little brioche rolls instead with the accoutrements. One favourite is toast with butter and half a banana on top. We'll also have pain au choc, although we've recently discovered the nice round brioche rolls with choccy bits in which are very nice. Occasionally we'll have a boiled egg and soldiers or scrambled egg instead, other times it'll be cereal or yoghurt.

If we're in a hurry a flapjack bar or something similar that we can eat on the hoof is the norm.

Where's post 29 gone???

Good Afternoon

As we are still waiting to collect our motorhome, pending MOT, service, hab service, valet etc. my life is spent reading this forum and dreaming of what’s to come. It is comforting to see such helpful responses to folks with problems.
This morning after getting breakfast sorted and returning to bed with bacon sandwiches and coffee I was wondering….
How is breakfast taken by the Motorhome Fun community?
Please share your motorhoming breakfast routines! Do you do things differently to when at home? Inside or outside? Earlier or later? Fry up or healthy options?
I need to know how to do breakfast properly if we are going to fit in with all you experienced travellers!

Welcome to the forum 👍 its well worth joining up properly once your 5 free posts are used up. I bought a life membership during my first year it’s so good!

anyway, breakfast in the van depends usually we have full English with scrambled eggs, and I have coffee in a moka pot. I buy my favourite coffee beans but ask for a fine grind for it, at home I have a bean to cup machine. Cup of tea for everyone else! Sometimes we just have cereal or muesli. We don’t have an oven or grill so we don’t bother with toast we buy some nice bread.

Breakfast in MH for me muesli mixed with Granola with blueberries and milk after 1st Tea of the day, Dee Porridge and fruit and Aeropress Coffee, if we want a weekend treat the full English for me and Poached egg on toast for Dee. For a real treat if there is a local cafe we will let them do the cooking 👏👏

There can be only one………

Tea and Biscuits………..
But its got to be the GOOD biscuits, and the rest of the bottle of the previous nights wine, if any left.
No messing!😂

There is nothing better than being on a site with other campers an doing a Full English on the Cadac outside. The smell of it always attracts comments and chat with other campers

I’m a big fan of having something that fits with the location: morning roll and square sausage in Scotland, hoggs pudding and fried egg in Cornwall, croissant in France, toast with smashed up tomatoes in Spain etc.

As an ex-smoker (off them for more than 30 yrs) I do sometimes miss the black coffee and a fag breakfast.

In UK - bagel done in ridgemonkey or cereal or porridge if winter. Yea or coffee in stove top (mokka) pot
In EU - coffee made in stove top pot and pastry or baguette (roll if Germany)

Porridge and dried fruit, made the night before and heated next morning, 2.5mins in the microwave if at home, saucepan in M/H.
Served with, optional, spoonful of honey and, essential, a mug of fresh coffee!

Breakfast #1 Meat left overs from night before-o.
Breakfast #2 Hard boiled eggs with mayo.
Breakfast #3 Pastry if in France or Fry up in UK, no pasta.
I usually skip Breakfast #4 with a siesta.

e&oe and I used a poetic licence.

Breakfast on our last day is always omelette so we can use up all the leftovers in it! We've had some wonderful creations....and always HWMBO to cook it!!!!

A must have is fresh coffee, we have tried many ways of making coffee in the van, we now have a vacuum jug and a paper filter, easy to get rid of the coffee grounds and the jug keeps the coffee hot for a second cup. We used to have toast or a cooked breakfast when away but now we are retired we go away so much we have stopped and just have the same as at home.

Usually coffee either from a dolce gusto machine or a moka pot if not on hook up, followed by Granola, the one with plain chocolate and strawberries in it, with goats milk or, occasionally a fry up, egg, bacon, sausage, beans and toast. Occasionally = twice a month maybe.
ChrisL, just imagining a motorhomer of the )0’s reading your first sentence and going ‘Eh? Wot?’

Nope, no-one's on ignore as I'm a fully fledged member of the NMC (nosy moo club). :giggle:
I never put anyone on ignore either. Not intentionally anyway, but i do keep checking because I did it accidentally once 🤣must have fat fingers!
