Mosel Meet.

Thanks, we always travel with loads of water on board and a spare cassette for the loo so no problem for a few days. :D
I'm not sure if you know or not Richard, however, the MH stopover at Thieu is adjacent to the old boat lift, next to the road bridge. The new boat lift can be seen further up the canal on the opposite side. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Tunnel booked. :D:D
Wednesday late afternoon crossing, overnight at Cite Europe or Gravelines, then pootle towards the Mosel.
Planning stops at Thieu and perhaps Stenay en-route.
Now it just depends on the weather. If Germany looks crap we might just head south instead.

Richard.
We always stop at Peruweltz, nice stop alongside the canals, the link above is inaccurate when it comes to Peruweltz as it has lots of facilities, free but 6 euros with elecky, toilets and showers . Also has a bar restaurant right next to the motorhomes.

A few have asked which is the best Stellplatz on the Mosel, they are all pretty good but one that sticks in our minds is the one at Reil. Its big with plenty of room, the river boats stop here so you can take a cruise up or down river.
Heading your way around 8/9th September. Any idea if the river boats allow dogs on board?

Just been having a look at Peruweltz. Just the sort of place we like so that is now on the list of stops en-route. Thanks. (y):D

It's a bit confusing as the site that @tacr2man listed shows the parking in a big carpark a bit further along. Looks like it might be close to the new lift. The one you listed looks nicer as its right by the side of the canal.
Might stay two nights and try both. :):)

Richard.

@Clarky. It's the same location, ie, cars in the car park on the left, and MHs along side the canal on the right.
@tacr2man's Google view is spot on. (y)

Hopped over the top and went for a slow drive down the Rhine to Koblenz on Sunday. Monday, we took the cable car up to the fortress which was well worth a visit and it took a good 4 hours to see all the different attractions it contains. 13.80 Euros buys you a combined return cable car ticket and entry to the fortress.

Don't waste your time on the little road train that tours the city, it was rubbish.

Back on the Mosel now and we are going to be spending our second night at a small motohome site with facilities on the outskirts of Ernst that is part of and behind a large wine store, 9 Euro's a night including EHU, plus they give you a free 1/3 of a bottle of wine as a welcome.
We used Ernst as a base to visit the very busy town of Cochem over the past couple of days which is only 3 miles away by bike.

We had a good look around the town yesterday and went to the chocolate box looking castle above the town today.
There is normally a shuttle bus you can take up to the castle but the wine festival in Cochem is now on so the roads are closed to traffic but it's only a 20 minute walk to the castle but some parts of the route are fairly steep. Entry including a 40 minute guided tour is 6 Euros each and the tour in English is at 12 o'clock each day.

Some of the doors in the castle have this lock face on them. The story goes that one of the owners of the castle liked a good drink or two and these lock faces were fitted so that after he had a skin full, all he had to do to find where the key went was to aim somewhere near the key hole and slide the key down and it was guided into the keyhole, neat idea. Oh, bugger, will miss it again. Heading for the boat lift at Thieu on Saturday and then back to the tunnel for our Monday morning crossing back to Blighty, cos Yvette, the poor sod has to be back at work Tuesday.
Sorry to mention the word "work", and hope that has not upset to many people using that dirty word, but at least Yvette is helping to pay towards all you pensions for the next 3 years.

Dave, please tell me Sven's will be BBQ-ing Friday evening.

How long are you there for Dave?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

As we have just about everything we require here at 60 Euros per week, I do not feel the need to move on until I have to, which will be around the third week of September. I have to be in Munich around the 25th of September, other than that am happy to sit here till then. There will definitely be another Mosel meet next spring lasting through the summer for anyone interested. I will have my vintage Velocette with me next year and hopefully have a few runs out around the local countryside.

Am not sure when, but normally it will be on Saturday. I will ask him tomorrow as he is going to his butcher for meat. I have put my order in for some rolled brisket, breast of lamb and fillet steak. It pays to make friends with the locals :).

It looks like we'll be having a wee wet or two then Dave, as we hope to be around, very early in September. (y)

Good man Jock, look forward to it. I will have the beer and wine on ice ready.

What's it been like over your way Dave, as the mercury hit 35c over here today. :hot:

I stopped looking at the glass a few weeks ago. Its probably around the 30c mark now, ah just checked, 28c at 2300hrs. I have adopted the siesta way now and have a nap during the heat of the day. Thats the beauty of having unlimited electric, have had two fans running 24/7 for the last couple of months.

We are heading in the Mosel meet direction around the 14th from Brugge . Is the best way to use the Brussels direction and the circular road whatever they call Or is it as bad as the m25 .

Am sorry I have no idea as we do not use motorways nowadays. Its a good days drive avoiding motorways with the added advantage of cheap fuel in Luxembourg.
