Mosel Meet.

Some of us solo ladies are becoming adventurous in our travels and after doing Twin Lakes in 2017, then the top half of France this June, we're beginning to plan next year and quite fancy this trip you're all doing. Looking at June/July 2019. Any advice will be gratefully received and we'll keep up with this thread!
Wendy.

I'm really enjoying this thread and hoping we get to the Mosel around 10th Sep.

Anyone got any good tips for travel from Hook of Holland please (arriving approx 3pm from Harwich on 6th Sep)?

Thanks - Gordon

Hows this for service. I just mentioned to Sven last night that I could do with a piece of brisket for the slow cooker and did he know what brisket was. I was going for bread this morning and he shouted me over and presented me with a 1.5kg piece of rolled brisket, nicely tied and stuffed with herbs and spices. All for the princely sum of 10 Euros. Its taken a few weeks to train the locals to my way of thinking, but they are finally getting there. I only have to ask for something and its here :). For this weekends BBQ, I said I was getting a bit fed up with pork, he tells me he has got me a side of salmon that he will BBQ over a cherry wood fire. Cannot fault the man (y).

@Snowbird I would like to order Venison for Saturday the 1st , if you could have word with Sven

Suggestion avoiding Brussels, and top up cheap fuel in Lux :)

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/T...4b784dff0e4f!2m2!1d3.2247013!2d51.2093488!3e0

UK €1.45 B €1.55 Lux €1.11 Diesel

Diesel prices are not to bad along the Mosel. We filled up in Cochem yesterday afternoon at €1.23 a litre. The same fuel station was €1.24 in the morning and is not a one off. Bear in mine that on a 80 litre fuel tank that equates to €9.60 difference to the Luxembourg price, so if it's going to be a detour to go through Luxembourg then don't panic about it. The average seems to be about €1.25 - €1.27 along the Mosel, Koblenz was pricey.

It's a "another" beautiful part of Germany Wendy, and not to be missed if you get the chance, allowing you to go north to Koblenz where the Mosel meets the Rhine and the Saar, or if preferred, head south down to the Black Forest. You don't have to travel far for your next Stelplatz, ie, sometimes only 10 - 20 minutes along the road, often coming and going as you please without having to plan. (y)
The weather can be changeable though, but great wines from the area are the consolation. ;)

It's as @tacr2man suggests, ie, toll free avoiding Brussels, and refueling (eg, at Capellan Services) on your way through Luxembourg. Fuel is the same price anywhere in Luxembourg.

It's a pity you and the Florals couldn't make this trip. :(

Cheers for now,

Jock & Rita. :)

Even you would not have dared to think how good this "meet" would turn out.

And mileage wise just down the road.

It has turned out extremely well Brian. Am sure it will now become an annual event as we plan on spending what summers we have left here at Reil. Strangely enough I never get bored of looking at the river traffic and the opposite bank full of vines. The cycle path runs through the stelplatz, so if I fancy a bit of exercise I can go for a ride, and next year I will have the Velocette for longer runs. Am still working on how to get a speedboat here though.

Yes it's a shame to have missed it. It looks great. As so many of us have different commitments it's difficult to set a date when we can all go, hence the forward planning!

The Rhein is even better of course, pity about the noise. The number of people paying a small fortune to go on those floating hotels amazes me, they miss so much because they only have a few moments to explore when they do stop.

Speedboat - so Dover Rotterdam, along the Rhein and hang a right.

If you want something odd to hire while your over here, then just around the corner from where we stayed in Ernst is the Mosselland Museum and you can hire one of the museums tractors on an hourly rate. o_O

If life were only that easy. I always wanted an Albatross continental with the Climax inboard, but thinking about it, the direct drive, with no clutch or reverse (No brakes) would not be sensible on a fast flowing river current. So, I found a mint Ray Wright Delta in France for sale which has the Ford V4 inboard. These boats are built from aluminium and are both light and fast. The problem is, I have cooks etrike, my ebike, my Velocette motorbike to transport and a speedboat will not go inside my box trailer. I did suggest to cook that she drive my pickup truck out here with all the bikes on and I bring the bus towing the boat. I wont tell just what she said, but after loosing her if France a few years ago whilst fetching a motorhome back from Germany, she has become quite rebellious towards following me in Europe .

I must admit to owning a few old tractors over the years. Thankfully I have no where to store them now.

Was the Field Marshall yours ?
That particular one was my mates, I took it down to Blandford steam rally years ago along with my marshal. I also had a track marshal at that time. My grandfather had threshing boxes and used the marshals to pull and drive them.

One of my cars is Climax powered and I do have a couple of spare engines if you feel so inclined. I'm sure John Fildes (Albatross Marine) can track a Continental hull down for you.

There has been a Continental on evilbay, converted to a 1300 crossflow, but as I said earlier I love the Albatross, but not the direct drive for fast current river use. Thats the main reason am going for the Ray Wright. I like to be able to stop.
