Morocco 23

When I contacted saga , I asked about green card for Morocco they said it was only for existing customers not available to new custom ...

So, we missed this in 2022 - wife broke her leg on December 23rd - pandemic - you name it. So, we will be going January 2023 - let us know if you are going - helps to cross together.
We're going mid to late December. Ferry from Sete to Tangier Med, nice 2 night cruise, no long drive through Spain and with the cost of fuel works out good option. 8th visit just love it

Hi, we are doing our third trip in January via Algeciras to Tanger med. Ferry Portsmouth to Santander already booked. May I ask how much the ferry from Sete is return? Might give it a try next time? Also, this time we intend a more sedate trip stopping a few days longer at some favourite locations instead of trying to see it all. Heading for Tafroute and the Gorges. Can you recommend a campsite in that area? Not really into wild camping. Do you have any favourite locations that you are prepared to divulge??? Allen & Jean

We're only going one way, we come back Tangier med to Barcelona to see mates. Check out Direct Ferries but we're paying 650 euros and have outside cabin, sounds a lot but you get to Morocco fresh as a daisy. Dont want to suggest sites as we know some have gone out of business, suggest you have a look at "search for sites" app. We weren't there last year.... covid! so we can't be sure what is open.
Have a good trip.

We've started looking at plans for January and found out that the lovely campsite at Moulay Bousellham ( Atlantis Gate) is permanently closed.
That's a bad start.
Hi, can your describe which of the two campsites you're referring to by where in MB they are rather than tthe names we're hoping to go to the one on the edge of the lagoon which we think is called Camping International. Also what is the source of your in fo, ta!

We would like to go but reading comments about third party insurance only makes it a show stopper for us. Has anyone managed to get their fully comp insurance in Morocco?

When we renewed our insurance we changed to Saga. We have fully comp and green card for Morocco. It was a lot more expensive but worth it to go back to morocco

We've booked Portsmouth to Santander on 9th January; not the same day as yours is it? Mark & Sophie

Does anyone know of valid places to get the dog's rabies titre test done in the UK? (He has an EU pet passport) Is this something our vet could do, posting the sample off? This link mentions labs in the UK, but I'm not sure if all of them are still approved as some expired in 2016.

Thanks - do you know if they used an approved lab?
I’ve just found that we have old titre tests (dated 2018) done by a UK lab not mentioned on my link above. I did read that it doesnt matter how long ago the test was done, so long as the dog’s rabies jabs are up to date - anyone know if this is true? Anyone ever had the Spanish ask for a titre certificate at all?

Here is the relevant EU regulation which seems to imply only one titre test is needed:

Rabies antibody test - dogs, cats and ferrets coming from non-EU countries or territories listed in part I of Annex VIII to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/404 for which the specific condition “rabies antibody titration test” applies must undergo the test as follows:

  • must be carried out on a sample collected by a veterinarian authorised by the competent authority during the period commencing at least 30 days after the date of the primary vaccination, within a current valid vaccination series, and ending 3 months before the date of issue of the certificate;
  • must measure a titre of neutralising antibody to rabies virus equal to or greater than 0,5 IU/ml;
  • must be certified by an official report from the official laboratory as regards the result, and a copy of this report must be attached to the animal health certificate accompanying the animals to the Union;
  • does not have to be renewed on an animal which, following the antibody rabies titration test with satisfactory results, has been revaccinated against rabies within the period of validity of the primary vaccination and all subsequent valid vaccinations in the series.

As I understand the Titre system, if you dog has a valid continuous rabies jab and has had the Titre test it last whilst you keep up to date with the rabies jab.

I think that's right, but I do think the EU page above implies the titre test must be done by an approved lab. And I'm not sure if mine is - it isn't listed now, but was maybe on the list in 2018.

From my understanding it has to be done by a approved lab, and that’s why it’s soooo expensive. Once tested, they are good all the time whilst booster are kept up to date.

We‘ve asked our vet about getting another one to be sure. They are investigating EU approved labs.

My motorhome insurance with Safeguard expires next month and as they don't cover me for Morocco I got a quote from Saga
Safeguard (includes Breakdown UK and Eu) £427.03
Saga adding the same breakdown cover and including a Green card for Morocco £813.65! fixed for three years.
Saga say the breakdown cover does not include Morocco.
£386.62 difference
Not sure how much a cover note would be for Morocco by itself if I could get one from another company but it does seem to be quite a hefty premium to pay on my existing insurer and I might only visit Morocco once over this winter.

I don't expect we'd go too far off the beaten track but you never know! To my mind, I'd rather be vaccinated than not as the temptation for me to fuss over any cute waifs and strays is strong! Obviously, it's down to individual choice though.

We have a Green Card currently which we've just found doesn't cover Maroc :rolleyes:however mh insurance is due for renewal in November so might be the ideal opportunity to look for an alternative option. Any suggestions?
Re insurance I had the same problem but found success with NFU.
Mitch.
PS. See you there, our 1st time as well..

its not so long ago that a green card was free with Saga. I dont think you will get breakdown cover now. Asfaik the one you used to get was where you sorted and paid for it and they reimbursed you. when our engine water pump went in Morocco it was fixed overnight and only cost about €150 + a shirt and a few chocolate bars. I also spoke to someone who's clutch went in a fwd transit and that was also fixed promptly for a reasonable price.

Hi is this NFU "Mutual" I've found that website but there doesn't seem to be a way to enter your details to get a quote?
I just phoned a number I found online and they gave me the the number for an office local to me, which I phoned and arranged insurance ( first making VERY sure that they did a green card for Morocco)
It was a doddle.
£378..
But only 3rd party for the time we are there.
That may not be enough for everyone, so do what you are happy with.
Good luck
Mitch
