Morocco 2019

Is it the one between the road and the beach just past the atlantica turnoff? Their new addition.

we're on the beach at mirleft, still ok atm 20mad/night.

In Tata we've always used the carpark - read motorhome parking! - in front of the swimming pool. From the north its just before the entrance to the campsite in town itself on the right. There's a bank on the corner and it's behind a row of arches. Guardian can connect you up to electric if you need it, there's water and WC emptying in a sort of washroom to the right inside the gates.

It was jam packed full yesterday.

In all our years motorhoming we have never been so unable to get on sites as we have in Morocco.

We stayed on the new one near Tagazoute. Called Atlantic Beach. Excellent facilities big pitches but a bit far from anywhere without extra transport

Settled in at Takat, agree it's an excellent campsite, appears to be French owned and run. Facilities are excellent incuding a lovely pool plus bar/restaurant. But it's miles from anywhere if you haven't got your own transport - e.g. 3km to the beach. Whatever their leaflet says they only refill European gas bottles and we had to go out to the village up the road to get exchange Moroccan bottles - dirt cheap though.

Site receptionist has been very helpful to Derek @Portland phoning around for a repair to his mirror. He's been out since 8.30 today so it looks like he may be having some success.

We'd recommend the site, even if it is full of French, but you need to get here earlyish as the vacated spaces fill up quickly and a lot of pitches have "reserved" signs on them. Sorry Phil, but we preferred Kaouki Beach.

We plan to stay around a week then maybe head to Sidi Ifni. If we survive the 30+ temperatures!
We too enjoyed Kaouki Beach and would have stayed a couple more days if Hermen the German hadn't built a pen next to his motorhome for his 4 dogs and got everybody evicted in the process.

A couple of more pictures from Camping Tinnougba and nearby town. We had a very relaxing time here and were made most welcome.

Now in Camping Tazerzite, just south of Tiznit, 1 Kilometre off the N1. We will stay here 4-5 days while I have some items made by the onsite handyman/sewing machinist wizard (1 x Awning sun blocker as per the Thule G2 Front panel (£99.99) for 600 Dirham and a made to measure shoe store 100 Dihram). We will then move into Tafroute. Just holding back a few days as the mornings are still cold.
This campsite is another pleasant surprise with European standard fittings and two restaurants, roof top lounging, and all the facilities you could hope for, less WiFi. Some pictures. 60 Dirham without Lecce and 80 with, per 24 hrs.

Don’t you mean Aglou Plague?

(y)
oh dear. Do you want to buy some nice cold st miguel?

for you my friend I do the good price insh Allah.
I will never ever run out, but thanks,(y) I just plan in advance, because if you are over here for 8 weeks, and average 5 cans a day, 280 cans, (big ones), plus a few spare.....plus 48 litres of Schweppes tonic water for SWMBO, plus her gin and wine for the evenings !!!!! And no we don’t have a drink problem :), I just need to clear the shelves in Algeciras next year (y)

And no we don’t have a drink problem

The only problem is how to distribute all that across the van.But seriously I wish we had brought more alcohol..............we were a little apprehensive about the customs and the weight. I still get blamed for the only puncture we have had because apparently I had overloaded the van.

We use our bicycles a lot travelling through France and Spain but have only used them once so far in Morocco. Of course they take up a lot of payload that could be used "for other essentials"

There's perhaps a good business there for Carlos or family to open a bicycle storage facility...........I can see it now........

"Swop your bicycles for wine and beer and when you return they'll be waiting here"

Air suspension is the key to it, £400 ish for a set of airrides, and spread it around the van a bit,; for two reasons - to help the mh out and so they can't see all of it. This time they didnt ask to look in the garage but last time the guy did so I 'carefully' offered him a can and I didnt really see him take it but it went LOL.

The road from Tata was superb .

From here we go to Zagora.
We can't decide where to go from there.
Do we go south to Mhamid to Erg Chigaga ( and take a tour) then back up to Ouarzazte then turn right up to Midelt Azrou etc.
Or.... Go over to Erg Chebbi and up?

I know it is only opinion but would be much appreciated.

I can recommend the road from Zagora to Ouazarzate, scenery is stunning, and Ait benhaddou is worth seeing.

Its then either north over the high atlas ( snow permitting) or east to the gorges and on to Merzouga/Erg Chebbi

But we havent done the road from Zagora across the bottom.

Jon

Good to hear all is going well John. The feedback on routes and camping as we will be following exactly that route in a week or so.

We have decided to go on to Merzouga and Erg Chebbi as I believe the Dune is more accessible there without necessarily taking an overnight trip.............it also feels a bit more like "as far as you can go"
Then North via Midelt and Azrou to Fez and Meknes.

I had read I think on here that the N12 from Foum to Zagora is now tarmacced but I don't know about further on from Zagora to Tazzarine and Merzouga.........someone will know.

Although @jonegood route via Ouazarzate to take in the film studios and a detour up the Dades looks tempting

Personaly I think Merzouga the better option as your right on the dunes.
The N12 is tarmaced to Tazzerine from Zagora, The Dades and Todra are def worth visiting, and then take the Tizni n Tikka north then cut across taking in the Cascades at Ouzoud onto Azrou and Chefchaouen

We re nicely in a front pitch at el barco, there are two left atm @TerryL and @Portland . We called in camping tamrhoute for a look, smart enough but a long way out of town and not much of a view for our taste.
I
Very windy along this bit today.

Edit to say, facilities are still primitive though

Thanks for that info....................so we now have the N12 tarmaced East as far as Tazzarine.

There's another 200k through Alnif and Rissani to Merzouga........so any info on that route would be appreciated...................we don't really want to go off/on piste.

We cycled into Sidi Ifni yesterday and thought El Barco and Sidi Ifni looked rather crowded though a fabulour location. We were glad we chose Tamroucht......................it just shows how how you have to take with a pinch of salt when others say it's a great/terrible site or route as we all have such different views........otherwise we'd all be in the same place.

The N12 road from Tazzerine to Rassini, and N13 to Merzouga is all tarmaced and good

Thanks everyone.
The Gorges du Ziz look like our route north eventually.

I just feel sorry for our old van.

Hi John, suggest you go straight along the N12 to Erg Chebbi via Zagora. I was told by a French women two days ago the 50 Kilometre unpaved section has been tarmarked and is now a good road. Then straight up to Meknes via Midelt. Monkeys in forest at Azrou, worth a short stop. Couple of days minimum in Meknes, visit the kings stables and other noteworthy places, then just outside of Meknes, Volubilis, not to be missed if anywhere near Meknes. Keep on the N13 and head back North via Chefchaouen. Job done.

That's exactly the route we had planned to follow.....................once again thanks to you and @horshamjack for putting in the last piece of our route jigsaw with info about the N12 from Zagora to Merzouga............................hope it's not windy like today.

@billym Ziz Gorge looks a good route with an overnight in the middle here
It's the only gorge we'll do this trip........ oh looks like we'll have to come back again

Can we keep the thread to all things Morocco

But while your at it, hardly call 2-1 a wupping lol  and there’s still time for your bubble to burst ;) although do rate Bielsa shame we never persued our interest in him at the time we may be still in the Prem now.
Good luck to Hernandez and to Leeds for the rest of the season, (y)

Hi all.
A bit of help is needed.
We were involved in a mirror clash with a large lorry on the road to Essaouira today and our left mirror has been totally destroyed. We stopped in the first available safe place after about 1km as we were on a steep windy down hill section and waited for about 20 mins but nobody
came to see us. Not even the police.
I have repaired what is left of the mirror but need a new one before we do any long
driving. Anyone know of Fiat/Citroen/Peugeot professional dealers in Essaouira or nearby or motorhome repairers
In this area. No injuries just damage.
TIA.

Hi Nik

We were just wondering today how you are getting on. Sorry to hear about your mirror, @Portland has the same problem. last we heard they were trying to find one at Agadir but if you re not going that far why dont you go to a garage and see if they can get you one? thats exactly what happened with our waterpump (engine) last time and it came overnight from casablanca. very resourceful people the moroccans.

Hope you are both enjoying Morocco even so.

We re currently at Sidi Ifni, enjoying the sun and then heading off for Tafraoute and the mountains

All the best
Jon & Sue

Hi @jonegood .
Thanks for your reply. We left Sidi Ifni today. Were at the Le Barco on the sea front for 2 days. It would have been great to catch up but we've had huge WiFi problems and have only just got it sorted at our current site at Le Calme just outside Esdaouira. Had a great time up until today. Now going ove to Marrakech before moving slowly up towards Tanger Med for the 3rd March.
Hope you are all well.
Regards Nik

Anyone planning to cross from Algericas to Morocco this coming Monday (18th). This will be our first visit to Morocco and slightly anxious as this is out of our comfort zone so would be nice to catch up with fellow funsters. We will be in a blue As Kingham.

We also felt anxious and out of our comfort zone four weeks ago.

It didn't last long.

I was talking to her at our tea time gathering about Rugby of all things Marc and she just happend to mention they had just come from there and the new road was very good. There were also a Welsh couple here and they said they were scared to go home because there Rugby team is now a national disgrace and heading for a right pounding next weekend, by the Nigels. Anyway, I must admit I do not recall the road upgrade being discussed in previous threads but appreciate you giving me the heads up. Will you be in Tafroute when we stuff your team again, we can get together and sing funny welsh songs like 'cum by my arm' and other weird shit and both get rat arsed and then I can watch you cry.
