Morocco 2019

We blagged a lift from to the camel market in Guelmim today. So us two, two berbers , two Germans , a Dutchman and a dog.

Got a lesson of how to avoid police by driving over the scrub.

We also learnt a song we thought maybe like " the wheels on the bus" but who knows.

On the way back the Dutchman described the journey and the camping like " One flew over the cuckoo's nest"
Which was good coming from him who has kept us entertained singing sea shanties in English for two nights round the campfire, wearing a cowboy hat and an arab thobe( or whatever it is called)

Great campsite. Great people. Crap toilets. Crap shower. Love it.

And is he likely to have any tank cleaner?

Local water has furred my sensor prongs up - In fairness I havent had time to clean it lately.

This has been for several years at least a very common problem with many motorhomes. Many, including us do a work around and by hook or crook gauge the amount of water used/left. Cleaning the sensors is a short term fix as it is very likely to happen again. Why not carry a spare 10 ltr. Plastic water can and if you run out you have enough to get you to a fill up point.

Thanks but would like to clean it anyway if I get chance, its way overdue.

This is 4th trip to Maroc but the first time we ve had this problem here.

Heading out tomorrow from Kaouki Beach, a site we've sort of fell in love with, probably stop at Imsouane before Agadir for a big shop on Monday. We're then planning on trying the site at Takat which seems to have found favour for a few days. Will need to sort out more gas there as we're on our last refillable bottle. My small Moroccan bottle died last night and the local "Tesco" either won't exchange it or hasn't got any, the young lad seemed a bit vague about it.

After that maybe Sidi Ifni then up to Tafraoute for the Almond Festival - see you all there!

You guys have just passed us on the road below terre D'Ocean

We
One of the many benefits of an A class verses coach built no doubt.

???? tanks are pretty much the same.

We stayed at camping Amerdoul which was ok.

From Icht to Tata took about 2.5 hours. We got stopped by the police but only for a chat. This road was much better. ( we stopped to look at the camels)

We tried three campsites in Tata and couldn't get on any. We ended up at Relais des Sables about a five minute walk into town.

The roads were very lonely and petrol stations were scarce.

Ah, the joys of piste roads
My dentist used to love me when I returned from Morocco.
He made a fortune out of replacing the fillings that were shaken out on piste roads!

Anyone planning to cross from Algericas to Morocco this coming Monday (18th). This will be our first visit to Morocco and slightly anxious as this is out of our comfort zone so would be nice to catch up with fellow funsters. We will be in a blue As Kingham.

You describe exactly how we felt on 5th January............and others have described the same feelings. After 6 weeks we are loving Morocco and we understand why people keep coming back.
So where will you be in 6 weeks ?????......................do let us know

We felt just the same, the first couple of days were a bit fractious, I would suggest you sort your internet out in assilah so at least your connected to everyone else here, and then stick to the motorways while you get your bearings, we've been here for 4 weeks now and love it, stay in touch and I'm sure you'll catch up with one of us along the way, have fun, Keep smiling

Wow, webby I'm impressed, your really giving morocco a good look, the piste roads are not for me, have a good time down there

No it's Jonh and Julie @billym who have gone off piste or rather on piste.

We are in Sidi Ifni at the moment and another like for Camping Tamhrouchte just outside town.Plenty of space and good facilities............downside is the mullah just switches the mike on and grunts a bit.....rather like Father Jack might say Mass. Some of the calls to prayer are quite melodic...especially the "wine o'clock shout"

We'll go to Tafraoute and then pick up the N12 at Tata...........I hope there is room at the inn. Let us know if you have anymore trouble finding sites on that route.....................at least we can be prepared with a Plan B ?????

Anyway @River gypsys I'm impressed that you went by motorcycle into Marrakesh..............did you eventually take the moho into Koutoubia parking?

For those people still to come over to Morocco, when planning your booze, plan on what you think you may need and then DOUBLE it, and then add it on AGAIN !!!!!, not only will you end up saving the equivalent to the ferry crossing, you’ll also save on the hassle of trying to find the places !!!!!. And don’t worry about your weight, the locals don’t (y), for those already out here, sorry advice may be a little late !!

To be fair we haven't gone off piste.

That was the N12 / R103 which for about 20 kms was full of roadworks with dusty detours.

Le Relais de Sables is a good plan D for Tata. Boring bland but loads of room( it is a car park but with facilities and you can use the hotel pool bar etc). Stay near the hotel side as the other is full of the nastiest sharpest thorny things on the ground.

In Tata we've always used the carpark - read motorhome parking! - in front of the swimming pool. From the north its just before the entrance to the campsite in town itself on the right. There's a bank on the corner and it's behind a row of arches. Guardian can connect you up to electric if you need it, there's water and WC emptying in a sort of washroom to the right inside the gates.

oh dear. Do you want to buy some nice cold st miguel?

for you my friend I do the good price insh Allah.

Settled in at Takat, agree it's an excellent campsite, appears to be French owned and run. Facilities are excellent incuding a lovely pool plus bar/restaurant. But it's miles from anywhere if you haven't got your own transport - e.g. 3km to the beach. Whatever their leaflet says they only refill European gas bottles and we had to go out to the village up the road to get exchange Moroccan bottles - dirt cheap though.

Site receptionist has been very helpful to Derek @Portland phoning around for a repair to his mirror. He's been out since 8.30 today so it looks like he may be having some success.

We'd recommend the site, even if it is full of French, but you need to get here earlyish as the vacated spaces fill up quickly and a lot of pitches have "reserved" signs on them. Sorry Phil, but we preferred Kaouki Beach.

We plan to stay around a week then maybe head to Sidi Ifni. If we survive the 30+ temperatures!

New campsite near Tagazhoute?

Whilst traversing from Imsouane to Agadir we noticed a brand new campsite around 10km north of Tag, something like Le Pecheur. You can't miss it from the road - the entrance is along the main road to the south - and it looked to have plenty of room on it. If we hadn't been commited to other plans we'd have stopped and investigated, so if anyone else is coming down the N1 maybe have a look? @jonegood are you still around there?
