Morocco 2019

We choose not to have the prunes and olives in ours although when the Moroccans cook one they do taste yummy. Who would of thought Prunes with beef, potatoes and vegetables could be such a tasty meal. The spices make the difference.
Had dinner at hotel tifawine, the best tagine so far, I agree with you ,the chicken and lemon is great but I've got to mention the salads, bloody fantastic

We and many other Funsters rated the restaurant Marrakesh as the best place for food in Tafroute. Of course that was in 2016 but I suspect it is still there and turning out good food. As you walk into the town, go past the junction where you have the post office on your right and the hole in the wall on your left and about half way down on your right is the restaurant. Have you tried the Hamam ? A bit scary first time as it's a dingy dark place but what a feeling when you come out. I guess the mornings are still cold ? More questions, where is the cassette emptying place this year and is the water bowser making regular trips.

There is the new Hammam just past the rounderbout top end of town on way out, last year the cassette empty was a manhole cover left side front of the college, and bowser man will prob still be delivering got himself s good earner,

The only thing that was scarey bout the old hammam was seeing you prancing around in your grots, offering to wash the lads backs

He's bringing it in 8 litre bottles, perhaps bowser man will reappear when loads of you turn up, hamams not for us really so we're giving it a miss,

Ha! Ha! What memories. I washed Mike Makams back and he mine, then I chucked a bucket of cold water over @Busman Dave sitting by the wall. Shocking behaviour ! Were you there the time there were no lights and we were lead in like a herd of elephants. I was just waiting for a 7 foot naked Berber to introduce himself to me in the pitch black. Of course, we were perfectly safe and well looked after as per the usual. Scary though !

Is it not cheaper and easier to fill up in the campsite next door. Pay for a night, fill up and empty...and then return to the 15dhm parking ?

Don't know, we're having work done so all services provided including fresh bread every morning

Just had the best salad ever at panorama cafe, included fish, fruit, beet, carrots, egg, toms, beans ,I could go on but I don't want to bore you 25 dirhams inc bread

We braved an early morning bike ride to the huge berber market at Had Draa.

Most certainly not for the faint hearted animal lovers .

Although we were two of maybe six foreign tourists amongst a thousand or more Berber men we were not hassled once. ( we saw about four local women there)

Photos cannot do it justice but here are a few.
The first one is of a guy flame throwing sheep heads into " charcoal". Does anyone know why?

A French lady on the site described the place as prehistoric. I would say biblical.

Anyway we got back in time to have our lamb couscous delivered.

Felt a bit guilty really

Where were you staying, and how far was the market away ?, I guess It was Monday, what time did you get there ? Cheers

I would have thought not. The Bowser in 2016 charged 20 Dirham per fill up, that included your tank and as many bottles you left out too. I can't see the campsites beating that price but it's an option if the water browser is out of commission.

Had a good day in Sidi Ifni today. Mena got her hair cut in the ' Barbers and the guy did a cracking Job. 30 Dirham. Visited the fish market and they were just starting to bring in the fish, some were humungus and we purchased a very fresh Dorado the size of a squash racket for 50 Dirham, plus anouther 2 to have it gutted and cleaned. We will have that baby tomorrow. We then bought an outside carpet for the motorhome, from the same guy I purchased my last one from in 2016. 140 Dirham, I didn't even bother haggling with him and we also had lunch, Chicken, beans, chips and half a dustbin lid. 44 Dirhams the lot. Bus into town was 6 Dirhams from outside the Campsite and the Taxi back 10 Dirhams and that's twice what the fare should be so he got a decent tip.
The main industry for Sidi Ifni is fishing, up until 1969 when the Spanish handed the town back to Morocco the fishing fleet was supplying Spain with all the fish it caught. This is one of the best places in Morocco to buy fresh fish, although its such a fish rich nation you can get fresh fish, dead cheap just about anywhere along the coast.

Restaurant Marakech is excellent.

Try the meat ball tomato sauce Tagine ..

Best in Morocco. ...

Buy some Hub Caps ( Bread Buns ) from the bakery near the argon sellers in the square above the market

It is on every Sunday.
We were at Camping des Oliviers at Ounara. ( very posh )
The market is 5km from the site up the N1. We cycled but there were shed loads of taxis.

The market is not quite on the main road so there was parking in the town.

We got there about 9.15 and had missed the slaughtering which starts around 7 ish!

Nice looking fish n rug Phil.
Who's the homeless guy on the wall?

We tried that last year and when the guardian twigged what we were up to he got really shirty and insisted that we pay for 2 nights.

And he is on a campsite.
My reputation as Ffree Lloading Ttosser is in tatters! However, my reputation will be fully restored when I get to Tafroute. Hope you two are in good health Lenny and look forwar to when we meet again. Mena says hello.

Well thanks for that! I've stopped shaving and a lot of grey is appearing. I'm getting fat again too. Lost two stone last year and will probably put on three. Diet time again no doubt when I get back to the UK.

@PhilandMena "140 Dirham, I didn't even bother haggling with him"
WHAT?
Were you feeling ill?
You would normally spend 40 minutes haggling to save 10 Dirhams!
I felt for him Mike, on my last visit I think I left with the carpet and some of his money, so I owed him I guess.

Looks like you are having a good trip. We should be in Spain at the beginning of March if you are around I'll track you down by visiting all the one Euro beer bars on route.
All the best to Mena and yourself.

Really enjoyed our few days in Le Relais Marrakesh and an overnight in a Riad enabled us to really enjoy the night activities.......................by no means as much hassle as I had expected and experienced many years ago.

Others do report having problems but I would not let that put you off..........the same way the negative posts about Morocco itself have not put you off visiting. Overnight tomorrow at Les Oliviers in Ounara mainly to fill up with water (I think we'll give the Berber market a miss @billym..............though they were also cooking sheep's heads in the Jemma El Fna. Then on to the coast and further South.

Met a guy on the site here who forgot to get insurance at Tanger Med and is really struggling to get cover for 4 weeks. He has been searching and telephoning around Marrakesh and I said I would post on here in case anyone had any ideas.......other than make a list next time.:(:(
