Morocco 2019

Can't wait to get back to Maroc.

Looks a nice spot Phil, but I have heard reports of a shifty little bloke lurking round the toilet/shower block with a camera!

Keep the pics coming....

Heads up for Laundry.
We were visited by two ladies yesterday with fliers for local laundry in Sidi Ifni. According to Google reviews it is possible the best place in Morooco ? Fully automatic modern washers and driers. 10 KG for 30 MAD (washing including suds and oxygen ???) drying 20 MAD (unlimited time). So, all you mingers out there heading this way bear this in mind. We mingers are heading down there this morning. Were told 10 MAD in a taxi (probably shared with a goat, sheep and a shephard, and a detour). Sun is up and its going to be another great day. Pictures later. By the way I updated my Garmin map (10GB) on the camp WiFi yesterday. One of the bennifits of being 20 feet from one of their aerials I suppose.

Just the two at 65 Gb each. I won't be taking that many pics this time around as most of the places we are going to visit this time have already been captured. But then again if I get a little bored out will come my camera.

It's still being developed Terry, looks like a shed load of holiday apartments being constructed just inside the entrance, leading up to the parking area for camping cars and across from the apartments a large building nearing completion that could be a restaurant and possible shops? Getting a bit of a whiff at times today. I think sewer pipework runs down centre of parking area that services toilets/ showers at both ends and cassette emptying points. Taxi into town cost us 5 Dirham.

Sorry Phil I meant a seperate sd card for your garmin sat nav as you said you'd updated it over WiFi,

I remember going to Morocco in the 70's as a child. My Parents and 3 kids in a mark 3 cortina, bright yellow with a black vinyl roof.
We went to Marrakesh, and Fes and other cities as I remember. I remember swimming in large pools at the oasis's en-route and small boys selling donkeys made of grass type vines. The beggars in Marrakesh were quite frightening back then.
We camped in a tent and my Dad drove the whole trip and all in two weeks.
The highlight of the trip for me was Todra Gorge, my brother and I had to sit on the boot of the car while Dad negotiated the river ford. Suppose it's all changed by now and hopefully they now have tarmac on the roads.
We did this trip twice in the 70's
Must make the effort and go see it soon.

What's the cords for camping tamharoucht @PhilandMena we may call in there before tafraoute

LOL No ! Garmin offered up a complete European map update (10 GB) a couple of days after we left home for this trip. (Typical timing by me !) I thought the only way I could get this download while away from home (no chance in Europe) was by buying,a 10 Gig data card and doing it via Moroc Telecom. However, as luck would have it, this site has decent WiFi, especially if like me you parked next to the WiFi repeater and I just connected my Garmin to my Lap Top and downloaded the update. Took about 45 Minutes but it was free and complete. My Garmin has a lot of capacity plus a second SD card I put in when I bought it but have never had to use it to date.

Tarmac on some of the roads and some tarmac on others. Some roads up to UK standards including pot holes. Still a magical place to visit.

Walking round the market today, once again amazed at the quality and freshness of their vegetables and fruit, cheap too. Also visited the fresh fish market but only one fisherman came in with his catch (If my memory serves me correctly 5 pm is the best time to buy fish), even so, he tipped onto the carpet, frying pan sized Dorado and 5 fat tuna plus a few sardines. I will be back there soon for some fresh fish.

Is that the one with the wedding venue /hall by the side?
Hi yes it is on our last night there there was a wedding which went on until 6 a.m. the next morning! I wanted to be nosy and take photos but the locked us in so couldn’t see anything.

We ll second that, a really scenic road, dont know which way you are going but the road across from Tata to Tafraoute also has some great scenery although a lot narrower and a bit rough in places.

We braved an early morning bike ride to the huge berber market at Had Draa.

Most certainly not for the faint hearted animal lovers .

Although we were two of maybe six foreign tourists amongst a thousand or more Berber men we were not hassled once. ( we saw about four local women there)

Photos cannot do it justice but here are a few.
The first one is of a guy flame throwing sheep heads into " charcoal". Does anyone know why?

A French lady on the site described the place as prehistoric. I would say biblical.

Anyway we got back in time to have our lamb couscous delivered.

Felt a bit guilty really

I think it’s good to see all aspects of “normal” life of any country good or bad or what we think is “normal”....

Well done for posting...(y)

Many butchers shops in Moroc have animal heads displayed and for sale. Cows, Sheep Goats etc. In Morocco, sheep’s head is served on special occasions including Eid Al Adha, one of the biggest Muslim holidays of the year. I suspect the others are either a delicacy or a poor mans/family food.

I have PandM but not keen on all those fruits they cook with meat but your potato dish looks ok but I'm sure it has some hidden fruits beneath.(y)

Had a bit of a sea mist yesterday morning and then the heat was turned on and it turned out to be a very hot day with a wine o'clock late afternoon. For those of you considering Staying a few days at Sidi Ifni, your two best option I.M.O. is here, Camping Tamhroucht abaout 3 K from the centre of Sidi Ifni and Camping Cran Canaria, on the very edge and near the beach at Sidi Ifni. Both 80 Dirham per night, all in. Both have similar reviews on Camper Contact with Tamhroucht having the higher rating. It's certainly quiet here and if you want somewhere to really chill out and relax this is the place. The WiFi is very good too but no washing machines here but only a 5 Dirham taxi ride into Sidi Ifni. The other Campsite will be great for those who want quick access into Sidi Ifni and a short walk to the market place, museum and fish market.

We choose not to have the prunes and olives in ours although when the Moroccans cook one they do taste yummy. Who would of thought Prunes with beef, potatoes and vegetables could be such a tasty meal. The spices make the difference.
