Morocco 2019

I’m sure that the Rabat bypass was open last year....and I’ve been stopped for speeding twice in the last 3 years, it’s just hard work slowing down to 60kmph approaching a town or village....., and when you leave agadir on the motorway to Marrakech, where the orange sellers are at the side of the road, they are on the checking the approach to roundabouts, but are hiding on the opposite side of the roundabout.

but my fear is that after "you know what" they will start to charge to visit foreign countries like France and Spain.................and why will the insurance companies do this................................because they will be able to.

Not necessarily. They are able to now if they wish... And we know from experience, and even more starkly these days the way policies can be compared that it only takes one company to not charge and the others follow suit to remain competitive.

I got stopped 47 k/p/h, I tried to make out that I didn’t understand so they produced what looked like a radar gun with the number 47 in the window. It looked like a sticker so I guess every body stopped that day was doing 47 kph. Can’t remember where it was but when we came past 2 weeks later they were still there. Good little money earner.

Thanks Phil (and others)for the fabulous photos that help us prepare for our first visit in early January...........I think we'll do New Year in Estepona and look to cross on 3/4 Jan so as to avoid the 3 kings.

We paid Comfort almost £250 for 90 days cover...................and I'm sure all the others will soon catch up with that price.

I hope overwintering in Spain will be an alternative, but my fear is that after "you know what" they will start to charge to visit foreign countries like France and Spain.................and why will the insurance companies do this................................because they will be able to.
We were at Estepona earlier this year, on the waste ground next to the marina. It's a nice place to visit.

Agreed, it's easy to get caught out. The plod are everywhere with there little speed camera's. Concentration is required at all times.

Concentration sometimes just isn’t enough, entering Senegal we got caught for speeding twice within 1000 mtrs of the border. Whilst the fine is usually negotiable, the simple truth is that it’s a nice little earner for the police.

Clearly, you were not concentrating or you wouldn't be speeding.

You have totally missed my point, we were not speeding, still in first gear.
Yes the only difference between our lot and their lot are that the Moroccan Police are upfront about it being how they get paid not hiding behind the 'safety' label.

Although it is useful that you can negotiate, took us a good 15 minutes to get down to 100 Dh

Keep a separate wallet with 200 dirhams in it. When you're stopped tell the police that you're on the way home and that's all you've got.

If you're lucky he'll give you back Dh100 "for the toll"!

:xThumb::xThumb::xThumb: It's been done! :xThumb::xThumb::xThumb:

Just had read of all that and yes we got pulled for speeding too on country road just after a bend!! And yes i did notice all the money was going straight in the pocket.

As for Rabat ... That was the most enjoyable drive of my life driving through the utter mayhem of the city i swear ive never used my horn as much in my life such a rush. But guess its not every-bodies cup of tea.

Such a shame your all paying so much for insurance but when we get ours for just £20.

I'm looking forward to using the new toll road to bypass Rabat next year. I've found it a pain in the bum in the past, long traffic ques snaking through the city. It will be good to bomb past in a few mi

rabat is or was an easy drive.
cross the river from salle . then find a turn round area go back towards the bridge and then turn left and follow the river etc down to the coast. then turn left and follow the coast along the sea front. after a few miles turn left and back to a main road but look out for the turnings to temara plage . then follow the sea road on downwards.
it used to be possible to do it all the way from rabat but in the early 2000,s they blocked the coast road a couple miles from rabat.
from there on follow the coast ,
safi is good follow signs to the port and just before the port turn left and again your following the sea great drive . used to pass sardine factories and a big generation plant etc mind blowing .
the nearest roads to the sea are great. a bridge got washed away in the 90,s and they made a sea crossinf but you can only do it if the sea allows forget the place but i,m sure you may know it.
cap teflney i think or that area, there used to be a fishing village just before with loads of blue fishing boats all over the beach.

Gwen got stopped for speeding and just flatly refused to pay!
She said “I have been driving for 45 years and never had a speeding ticket, so no, I am not paying”
An argument went on for quite a while with the Gendarme showing her the paperwork which clearly showed the official fine of 700Dh but she was adamant.
Eventually the Gendarme said “OK you can go, but you watch your speed in future,”
“I will” said madame.
As we got back into the van she looked at me and said “see? I’ve still got it!”

And later as she was driving down the road she said “how much was the fine going to be?”
“700dh” I said.
“So that means I have got 700dh to spend” she says.
Womens logic!

Why do you need a Green Card for Europe?
Yeah Phil ive confused myself Doh. our insurance includes Norway Switzerland and Iceland and in addition Morocco But we have to pay £20 admin fee for green card to go to Morocco. Think that right now but it also mentions Russia Now there's an adventure!

Thanks for that we did all coast down as far as safi last time then inland to Tafroute and back over the atlas north. This time id like to get down to the Ergs without motorways any suggestions as to routes and is it really dangerous along the north part where they grow the weed or is that just a rumour.?

i,m sure you will have a great time , just remember alot of the roads can be just tracks in the sand .
ideally hook up with some one with a good 4x4 capable of pulling you out if needed .
used to spend quite a bit of time around erfoud, lots fossils to be found etc
cant say as we had any trouble while traveling there . there was sellers with things to sell at the side of the roads but i dont use it so didnt buy it. get lots police stopping and doing checks but thats all.
remember if going out into the wilds best go in a small group.
depending on the vehicles . normal vans while in the desert tend to suffer punctures alot. tubeless repairs or green slime is the way. nothing strange to have ten punctures a day if driving in the sand . desert thorns growing just under the surface are a pest. the fit from outside repair strips or slime , i used oko , was a fantastic relief.
have fun .

I want to know which funster in morocco keeps trying to phone me. could at least leave a message :xrofl:

Hi All
We are off to Morocco in late January and want to protect my gas system from any dirty/oily Moroccan gas as far as I can.

My cunning plan was to fit a filter inline with a Moroccan gas bottle and regulator and then to my external BBQ point. I have a Truma AS99 Gas Filter for this purpose.
untitled.png

Trying to get fittings that would enable me to connect the filter to a hose each side has been impossible. (I have spoken to Marcle Leisure, GasIt and Autogas 2000 so far).
The first 2 were unable to help at all but I was advised by the gallant chaps at Autogas 2000 to fit the filter to the Moroccan gas bottle then to the regulator and then on to my external BBQ point.

I have an inboard refillable LPG system that I am not going to disturb.

The question is: Will the fittings on the filter i.e one, M20 x 1.5 external thread and one, M20 x 1.5 Union nut fit the Moroccan bottle and regulator.

I know it others have fitted such a system so would be very grateful for those with experience or an alternative idea to this set up to give some advice please.

Thanks very much in advance.
Best regards
Nik.

I use an LPG filter connected directly to the Morocco gas bottle and fail to understand why you need two filters ? Anyway, this is the filter I have that fits the Maroc bottle. Not sure about your fitting's but if you talk to these people I'm sure they will sort you out.
