Ercounte Park in a few days to sort some bits out on the van, then onto Plague Blanc for a week for some more wilding.

thinking of going to Guelmim for camel market saturday morning then off to tafrauote following day. does anyone know the route from guelmim without going through tisnet and is it mountainous and a decent road.

There is a road called the P1919 take a right by Bouizakarne on the N12 towards Icht go along a short while and take a left by Timouloy on the P1919. This picks up the R104 midway from Tiznit to Tafroute.
I personally have not done this road but a friend on FB did it a few weeks ago in their 7M van, it took 3hrs from Bouzakarne to Tafroute was told it's a very scenic route and we will be doing it in a few weeks.
We stayed at Bouzakarne last year and will again this year, nice site on the outskirts of town, lovely owners

Thanks horshamjack for the info -- we are with FR and think your route sounds good. Bouzakarne might be a good stop for some dinner?

Only one road has beaten me Dave, the 107 near Icht to Tafroute and that was only because of the weight of the booze lol
It sounds very like the road that joins the 106 and 109 from Tafroute to Tata

We newbies staying for a couple of days clean up at lovely site 23K from Essiourria, Ounara (Camping des Oliviers). Very green, shady and has everything - except Brits. The call of the coast will probably take us to Ess. tomorrow where we hope to stay awhile, maybe Sidi Magdoul. Any recommendations?

In Essaouira last weekend, we stayed at the GP right by the old port, at the back of the fish stalls. Fantastic spot, very handy for the port and the town. The seagulls tramping on the roof are all part of the fun! N31 30.625 W9 46.309 50Dh a night.

Don't quite know why we travelled so far yesterday, but from Essaouria we're now at Camping Tazerzite 5km south of Tiznit on the N1. As before full of French, spotted a Dutchman as we walked round yesterday but he's gone today. Plenty of room but the electric is a bit iffy. 85MAD pn

Well tafraoute has changed still as lovely and still only10 DH but no water bowser and no cassette or grey water emptying allowed. Water can be purchased as a local guy is selling 30 Ltrs for 50 DH but have to drive to one of the local campsites to empty cassettes where you can do everything for 50 DH. So we have decided the trios palmerie campsite is less hassle at 45 DH per night

We are now Gibralta and hoping to cross soon and as its our first time hoping to cross with company
Anyone thinking of crossing soon let us known and we can meet in Algeceras
Cheers

Cassette emptying we totally agree with, but you cant manage without water. Surely this means that both campsites in Tafraoute will be chocca bloc..

There is Camping Tazka about further along the R104 road but no doubt they will be full also.

Is this the beginning of the end for long term (serviced) wild camping in Maroc?

Not liking what I'm hearing re Tafroute, come the time of the festival the 3 sites will not be able to accommodate the amount of vans there?
We are still at the wildcamp and was visited by an Autherised person from the local council, we had to fill in a Fishe type document and was told we could stay but liable to be moved on by the police, we will prob stay a day or two more then move on towards Plage Blanc
Also re-evaluating when we get to Tafroute in view of absforfun post, was hoping to do at least a month there.

Terry, is that motorway stretch they were building through Rabat last year now finished ? Once completed it will make a huge difference getting through Rabat.

I can't see the town loosing that amount of potential business through lack of black waste disposal. Once the threat of a shed load of motor homes going elsewhere, action will be taken. Shame if it does not happen, this is such a popular spot. I shall be following this with interest.

Hi Terry and Derek.
we left the sh#* hole that was the camping at Essaouira and went for sanctuary at Esprit nature campsite about 10km out of town. This site would be considered a gem in Europe. By Moroc standards, it is out of this world. In the forest, a French couple have created a beautiful garden and campsite. Toilets and showers 10 out of 10. Ambience superb. We chilled there for 3 nights (www.espritnature-essaouira.com) and are now on GP at Essaouria (30mad). Refreshed, clean and ready for the nexr experience. We had 22C this arvo. :D:D

Bad news about Tafroute. ...

We were at the Parmerie campsite first time we came to. Morocco it was jam packed dirty and bad traffic noise.not going to rush to get there now ...

The town will see a big difference in income if the motorhomers don't stay long .

We are at camping Bakanou just between the highway and Tiznite beach where we all got evicted by the Police .
The fishing village is a ghost town now ...and even this campsite is only about 1/4 capacity.....
Loosing the wild parking has killed the village and the campsite the owner said .

Morocco is changing fast and the old wild friendly Morocco is disappearing along with it .....

Update, information from guardian tonight cassette emptying has now been opened again as per last year, water will be delivered by enterprising locals, unsure of price originally told 50DH now being told 15DH for 30 ltrs so only time will tell

At those water prices, isn't it cheaper to stay on a campsite ?

I don't understand these reports about the camping at essouria, yes the toilet block is a joke, and you empty your grey water under a man hole in the middle of the road, but hey, filling with water is easy, so is emptying the toilet, and it's secure, and only when its busy you can't get electric.
Don't most of us have toilets, showers and solar panels in their vans ??.

Also it had really good wifi outside the reception.
Ands it's only 400m from the GP parking, a car park.
And for about £5 a night, it's ok, and it is Morocco, this why I guess most of love coming over here to embrace the country.

Just my observations, without wanting to upset anyone, and yes we've stayed in many worse sites in morroco, try camping agadir, but as mentioned before most of us are self contained.

Insallah

With all due respect, we have embraced our share of 'the real Morocco' but when a camp site offers only a squatter with a bucket for the men and 4 blocked toilets for the girls and no showers. You have to ask yourself why are we paying for it. The only good thing about this site was the wifi connection to find an alternative. It doesn't have to be like this!

We are heading south to Essaouria today, currently just south of
Casablanca. Very cool start but finally found internet and lovely coffee.
Is anyone else heading down there, already there, willing to be there? We would love to chat to some fellow wander ers. So far haven't met a single Brit. let alone a fun steer. Crossing was fine. Don't worry tincanfamily if we did it you'll be good. Hope to hear from anyone soon.
Hi there, yes we made it safely! Currently in moulay bouselham but moving south fairly soon so hopefully bump into you ( not literally) on the road! There are a bunch of nice folks out here that we know - have a look on FB for veedubadventures, rhinocamper, openroadz(Anna_gabor on here) ourtour and of course us tincanfamily. Also we are currently travelling with a British couple hymerlife on Instagram- we messaged each other and decided to cross together- most of the others we've also met up with just because of a few FB/Instagram messages...lots of new friends! ( ps our puppy is Millie :) )

Arrived with FG at Guelmim about 5pm --- after 80k detour to visit Fort Bou Jerif right out in the sticks and not a person or any other van in sight.

Can't believe that Fort Bou Jerif in the middle of nowhere had a Hotel, camp site, Fort, Moroccan tents, buildings, showers, restaurant, facilities and, in as good a condition as I have seen anywhere throughout Maroc.

Parked at Guelmim out of town at the market and had dinner with no problem. It is a huge area with all kinds of livestock already there for the Saturday market. However, police arrived and said it was not safe and directed us to go in town and ask police to direct us to safe place to stay by the police station. Did so and now happily ensconced with a few beers looking forward to visiting marker tomorrow morning.

P.S town at night was absolutely buzzing -- noisy, chaotic, etc, with all shops open and people walking everywhere -- did not see any other westerners about and police seemed concerned we found right place to park for night.

They did it at Tagahazout Phil! What's happening there now! Anyone know?

Yes, that's correct but only because they were developing the land. This does not appear to be the case in Tafroute as campers are not being moved on. Maybe the camping area can no longer absorb the huge amount of shite that has been deposited over the years. LOL.

So, what is the situation at Tafraoute? Can you empty a cassette? And what price is water?. We were planning a long stay here but will give it a miss if we have to and stay on the coast. BIG SHAME

Arrived at Bouizakrane after Guelmim market (great atmosphere and well worth a visit) at campsite on R102 about 1km out of town after advice from horshamjack. Very nice spot with hot showers, hot water for dishes, no electric but very friendly and welcoming. In view of Tafraoute situation may stay a couple of days -- hope things up there go back to normal it would be a great shame for the Town and all of us for it to disintegrate.

We went into Taghazout this week, to see what the crack was. The town now has a bypass! The old road is shut at various places, to allow massive construction sites to operate. Huge developments springing up everywhere, bit like the Costas! The site where we wild camped three years ago (with hundreds of others) had one van on it, and we couldn't see how he had managed to get in there through the security that now surrounds the building sites.
