Morocco 2015

Just had a flyer through the post from Spain from Carlos at Viajes Normandie in Los Barrios, Algecciras. Some flowery words re gratitude for being a loyal customer but no mention of current prices. Have you had any contact with Carlos Terry re a few crossing on the 15th?

Bought 2 new 13 kg propanes and put them in the van so I know they are both full and a full one in the garage, reckon that should be enough gas, I'll eat salad if it isn't !
I don't know if it's any help but that's the amount of gas bottles we took last year when we went away, nearly 5 weeks in Moroco
out of a total of 9 weeks away starting in early February
Around 3 of those weeks were on sites with electric hook up but we still needed gas for hot water and most of our cooking.
We needed the heating on most evenings on the 9 days down to Spain and the same on the way back.
We didn't quite use up 2 of the bottles.
Mind you a lot depends on how well your van is insulated.
When we did Spain and Portugal a few years ago in our previous van we used practically all three bottles in just under 5 weeks, but then we did start off with temperatures around -13c.
Enjoy Morocco, it's a shame we can't make it this year, may be in 2016

Same here though post this morning he must have mail shot everyone from last year

So, let's talk data sims....
It seems to me that the consensus view on the forum is a three sim for France and a Knowhow sim for Spain and Portugal then a Maroc telecom sim for Morocco, now then bearing in mind that when activated these sims expire after a month and need to be topped up, what is the solution for travelling through France, Spain and Portugal en route to Morocco, or do people just write it off and activate a sim in France then another in Spain. I got a 3 3G SIM I GB Ready to go mobile broadband SIM for my NETGEAR AIRCARD. Reading the blurb on the SIM (page 16) it says :-

MOBILE BROADBAND ABROAD.
You won't be able to top up while your away and the usual Add-ons are only valid in the UK. So, before you go abroad, if you want to use Mobile Broadband you need to top up your roaming credit.

So if the top ups expire after a month and you can't top up abroad have I bought the wrong SIM? It would seem this is as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Am I missing something?

Could someone PLEASE give me a definitive answer at to what SIM(s) do I (you) use en-route down to Morocco?

Hello
I have a new campervan being converted It will have an underslung gas tank. I want to ensure I can fit a Morocan gas cylinder for an expected trip in 2016. I'm planning to have a retainer, extra regulator and 'pigtail' fitted in a cupboard with an outside vent. Does anyone know what kind of pigtail I will need and what type of pigtail to bottle adaptor?
Thanks

Alan

Simon assuming you cross to Maroc on Jan 15th, and taking a steady run down through France, you will spend approximately 3 or 4 days in France, and then approximately 5 days in Spain before crossing on Jan 15th. Therefore your 1Gb 3 sim should be more than adequate. Similarly the Spanish sim should be enough. However, Macdonalds (free wifi) in Los Barrios (Algeciras) is just across the way from where all the motorhomes pitch up either going or returning to/from Maroc.

First stop after Tanger Med is Asilah. You then buy a Maroc Telecom Sim in Asilah for which if I remember, is for one month. However, if we can buy one for three months this would be preferable, since its the duration of your visa entitlement for staying in Morocco and saves searching for Maroc Telecomm outlets to top up.

How long you spend on the way back through Spain, and/or Portugal and then France is subjective dependent on individual itineraries.

Current deal offered by Maroc Telecom is UNLIMITED 3G+ for 10days cost 60dms £4:50?. Got 2 4 days ago in Tetuan. 1 for me and one for missus. Thats 20 days of mifi sorted. It's fast too. We have been able to stream live UK Tv via a proxy without a single glitch.

Thereafter I will recharge one at 200dms for 16gig over 2 months at any tele boutique. That's if they don't let us buy another couple of sims

Love you Ken! Can't believe one of the big phone companies doesn't stitch this market up, they'd make a fortune if you didn't have to bollox around so much. It looks as though it's cheaper to tether to my phone on EE, £25 for a month, mind you perhaps not, it's only 500mb!

We have ADAC for what use it was  but the local mechanic was prety good got us away then went to the main agent in Agadir ,
Plenty local garages and they are very good at adapting / make do and mend , like we used to do in uk 20 years ago , Art work / Paint Work / Nudge Bars . Solar panels , you name it ...lol...

Make sure you have a tow strap / rope just in case ,
At my age 20 years ago was last week. I was in the RAC and had an old metal badge on my mini in the late 60s,but back to subject  I've tried to get Morocco cover but can't so will be on a wing and a prayer, Steve pretty savvy anyway.

Moved to comfort insurance.
If you breakdown, you pay upfront then claim back

@canopus Yep, got mine too. I emailed them a couple of weeks ago and the response was basically, how many and let us know names. Over the next week I intend to contact everybody by PM, confirm their intentions and get some details. We'll then see what Carlos can come up with (he quoted me €200). I'll also have another go at Bella Vista, although I suspect last year was a promotional thing, Still, no harm in trying.

Whilst we all love a bit of a discount, my main concern is getting everybody over together as one party as last time I know Andrew was running around trying to sort things out still on the morning of departure (remember everybody had tickets showing different crossing days/times? - I'm still convinced they laid on an extra ferry for us!) I don't want that to happen this time - as I said in my original post I'm not "organising" anything, just trying to coordinate. That said I'll try to make it as straightforward for everybody, especially the newbies, as possible.

Incidentally, my thanks to everybody contributing very useful information for us all to take note of. All I'd like to see now is a report from a recent crossing to Tanger-Med on any differences of procedures to last time.

AND FOR ANYBODY ELSE WISHING TO JOIN US - LIST CLOSES ON FRIDAY 19th

Terry

Terry, please remove us from the list for the crossing on the 15th, I can't see us making Morocco on this trip.
Thanks for all your efforts regarding the organisation,:xThumb: I'm sure you will all have a great time, and will be following the thread with interest.
Cheers

Now I know you are all very experienced but get your local tyre place to check your tyres ready for your trip, if you have twin wheels on the back take the outer wheel off to check the inner, just found an 06 tyre on mine, anyhow replaced all six, money well spent I hope!
Got the van serviced ready for Morocco, asked garage to give it the once over for trip, he found two cracked? Discs.
New discs and pads all round, two new ball joints, 3 new wiper blades, spare drive belt and fuel filter £852 this is getting to be an expensive trip and I haven't even got there yet:xgrin:

Simon, can I buy your van off you please.:xgrin:

@tremybach Ok, no probs, thanks for letting us know. You can always catch up with the Funsters later if you change your minds - and it's not going to be just our little group!

@electricscott Of course you're free to do your own thing, but the planned date for our little group is 15th Jan. You're very welcome to join in if your itinerary fits, but I'll only be coordinating those who've let me know beforehand and all along it is mostly for the benefit of those who've not been to Morocco before - with a few "experts" :giggler: of course!

I was beginning to think dabhand would be a good guy to travel with, with all his spares, but I don't think his tyres will fit mine......:wondering:

Well, we top our MILF broadband device EuropaSim up regularly online whilst travelling throughout Europe.. there are many companies offering this option, Im sure you find this is the case if you do a 'refine' search

MILF TOPUP ?? What sort of trip is this your now running !!!!!!:rofl:

Terryl.. I have, somewhere, read a recent report that Tangier med has improved and most of the check in is at one booth..
Just can't find where I read it, may have been a Facebook thing but it's within the last few weeks..
Mick and sharon who we met on our 2013 trip and used / are F@*ts members, crossed last week and have been to Tagazoute and now down at Tan Tan.. So no travel issues there to report.

If anyone is passing Cannock, Jn 11 or 12 on the M6 and wants a free small Moroccan gas bottle let me know.. I think it's maybe 1/2 full and a refill once you have the bottle (3.5kg ish) is only £1 :)

What type of connector do they have (Spanish/French) can they be refilled in Moroc and are you going over on the 15th ? I might take one if it's suitable for Moroc.
