Looks like a lot of pressure on you Ken. Don't go to anymore supermarkets lol

The reality is there are not that many roads in Morocco. The £6 Michelin map will get you round just fine. Any satnav can and has got people into trouble.

More important is listen to folk on here telling of roads they would never go down again.

You can get a decent electronics map for Android, free, look up Maps With Me, maybe also on Apple. Not a router but a stored map you can zoom in on and if you have GPS on the device will pinpoint your location.

I did search for the stated app but only maps.me was offered is this correct as think could be very useful

Anyway, roads...! We need an outboard and some flotation device for the mo'ho's don't we?

Some of the'main' roads inland were literally dirt tracks, fine when dry.
Even saw some main roads laid on riverbeds.its these that will cause problems with all the rain, in my front 2 wheel drive Fiat. My van is only capable of so much :-)

Well, well, well. I hadn't noticed it had changed it's name. Now it's saying it now offers routing if I update maps. So I am.

I actually paid a pound or two for the pro version but it's now free.

Updates streaming in as I type.

Thanks guys for all the help I will join the rest of you with map and common sense proberly follow some of you regards Ron

Buy the tomtom map ,

Some of the campsites and gaurdian areas are really hard to find , the Mosque one in marakesh for example or for finding the Marjans shoping areas in the cities,

The sites in the desert region, ie Erg Chebbi are on piste roads not shown on maps ...

The Michelin map is years out of date , we went on " Yellow " roads that were only muddy yellow tracks they never got up graded and also on roads not shown on the Michelin Map .

If you use the French book Camping Du Maroc all the places to camp etc have GPS positioning .

it is ok saying just follow the others but i would not be without the satnav ,

We purchased the Garmin Morocco map for our trip Jan to Mar 2014, to be honest we were not particularly impressed with the detail ...... but.... A combination of Garmin, Michelin and Marco Polo map we got where we wanted to go, that said I know that we could have done it all without the use of the GPS.

Dated 21 September. Will be over the worst by now i should think...........hope!

NO...... Read the end of the thread, it is updated a lot since the first post...
Last post was 2 days ago...
"UPDATE ON GUELMIM AREA

The N12 to Sidi Ifni is apparently still closed. The main N1 from Tan Tan Plage (El Ouatia) to Guelmim and on to Tiznit is open. Many minor roads still closed."

I used to read this prior to our trips in 2013 / 2014 always some useful info..

Just had an update from Sue & Dave who are currently at El Ouatia which is probably as far south as you can go without encountering checkpoints into Western Sahara. Sounds as though there is a slight improvement down there.

Hi to you both,

As far as we are aware the road repairs are well on there way, most of the main roads are now open, some not fully (contraflow traffic at some points, which adds time to your journey) We don't think any of the motorways were affected.

We are still in El Ouatia (Tan-Tan Plage) and have decided to stay here until 1st or 2nd Jan. When we hope to "wild Camp" at Taghazoute. We have some friends driving from Agadir this week (with a caravan on tow) so we will be able to give you a more accurate update when they arrive, they were in Essaouria when the floods came.

We were very lucky here, not much damage at all, the N1 was closed into Tan-Tan for a short while and the N1 from Tan Tan to Guelmim was closed for a few days (due to the flooding) Guelmim was hit pretty bad and Tiznit was flooded, but what we saw (on you tube) in Sidi Ifni shocked us the most, We have been there the last 2 years and was due to go there at the time of the floods. We believe you can still get in and out of Sidi Ifni but not via the Guelmim road, as that is still closed.

There are only 6 campers on the campsite we are on, 1 next door and 2 on the other campsite, 3 of those have arrived this week, it's so quiet here.

Once our friends arrive, or if we here anything else we will let you know.

Regards

Sue & Dave

Wrong - There are big problems in the south which tends to be where the sun shines the most at this time of year.

With you mate, I shall get lost with you and we can then go boating!!

I don't know if we posted it on this thread or another but earlier this year in Morocco, we had a Maroc Telecom sim in our phone ( iPad is only wifi) so we 'blue toothed' it to the iPad and then used Google Maps Satelite view to get us out of towns. It worked really well for us 99% of the time.

From The Kasbah De Palmerie in Agdz
Hello Graham,
Everything is Ok in Agdz, the Draa river come out of its bed, it was overflood in the Valley,
the left side of the river was not reachable for 2 weeks, but now every thing came normal.
Our camping side was not really touch by the rain, naturelly, it was rainy, but not so much as usual,
we did not had damages in our place, just some palm leaves who fall down, and a little bit water in the soil, (less than 3 cms).
For the moment, up to sunday, the tichka pass is still closed because the road was damaged, and they are fixingthe different troubles that they have seen. damages are more South between TATA, Foum Zguid, Guelmim, icht,Tiznit Sidid Ifni. A lot of road were over flowed and a lot of bridges are broken, but now it is dry again, and they are
working to repair quickly the road;
Normally from Tangier to Marrakech, you will not find difficulties, but after, more damage so go slowly, and then you will go through;

See you soon. Enjoy your trip in Morrocco , Best regards Gaelle AIT EL CAID
