Morocco 2015

Have heard a rumour via Facebook, that upwards of 20,000 French Camping Cars are NOT going to be in Morocco this winter on account of the IS threat, and also the current state of many roads and bridges resulting from the November Flash Floods. Road repairs in Morocco can take years. Consequently they will all be in Spain and Portugal so be warned.
Sounds serious! Can you throw some more light on this rumor ! I would have thought we would have wind of it via a motorhome forum rather than someone on Facebook. Some scare mongering perhaps !

i Remember last year 2013/4 ,
The French were not going to Morocco because the Frence goverment had banned the Burca in France . and were concerned about retaliation ...
Official figures for last winter were that 47,000 motorhome had gone to Morocco compared with ONLY 30,000 MH in 2012/3
It could be the French secretly posting they are not going so they can get all the sea views and take up more space before we get there ....:Eeek:

Suggy if you set off now you will be there by Wednesday :LOL: You can report back then whether its fact or fiction:eek:

i am waiting for Dazlin to report back , they go over on the 15 th ,
I still havent heard from our friend Mohamed he lives between Tiznit and Agadir ,

Might be worth emailing some of the Moroccan campsite to see how things are ,
ie :-on the pretext of booking ... Le Relaise , Atlantic Park , The Palmerie at Agdz and Zagorra , ?

Looks like a lot of people are waiting for SITREP from Dazzlin, that said we were chatting to a French couple last week who were "on route" to Morocco, they seemed non to bothered about the situation.

I assume the 4gb data already pre-loaded is for UK use only..
No idea what would happen if you tried to use it abroad...

It's more the fact of the box for £18 and a £1 to unlock..
Sell it in Morocco at the end of your trips and double your money :)

I just had a quick look is it 3G or 4G
I have had both and 4G certainly is very fast when it's avalable
As for moroco I don't think 4G is avalable yet but considering how well they do with network coverage it won't be long they certainly put us to shame

It is just 3G..
More than adequate...
I think it's the same model as mine that I have took over there and used twice now..
However, cant find mine to check.. !!

Could you remove us from the list please we have decided to wait until things improve...

Graham can you find web cams for Tagazhoute, Tafroute, and other places we visited.

Pity the cam won't pan round Colin to look back towards Agadir, might then be able to see if there any any vans on the cliff top. Or better still see what the elsan emptying arrangements are this year:D:eek::LOL:

All these web cams seem to cater for surf boarders.

Thanks food for thought !!
We are in Peniche at the mo . Got talking to a French couple on the site. When I mentioned we were heading down to Morocco he shook his head and said it's dangerous, and the French president had urged all French nationals not to enter Morocco ?
I'm sure that it will be ok in the main? you can sit back and let everything worry you! or live for the day
Interested to hear others thoughts

I pulled this statement from a website that may put things into a little perspective. However, I'm no expert and not up to speed with current risks/threats.

The entire history of terrorism in Morocco since 1990 is this:

1994. Shooting in Marrakech that caused the deaths of 2 tourists.
2003. Bombings in Casablanca resulted in 33 civilian deaths.
2007. 3 suicide-bombing incidents in Casablanca none of which resulted in any civilian deaths.
2011. Bomb at the Café Argana causing 17 fatalities.
Over the last 21 years terrorism in Morocco has resulted in a total of 52 innocent deaths of which less than half were foreign nationals. During this same period Moroccan Government statistics suggest that the country welcomed over 40 million visitors.

By contrast, in the UK more than 30 separate terrorist incidents have resulted in nearly 140 dead and many hundreds injured since 1990.

As for targeted political murders or kidnappings (such as has happened in Pakistan), despite the FCO advice, not one single foreign national, that I know of in the last 20 years, has ever been kidnapped, or murdered, in a terrorist motivated crime in Morocco. I think the last time a British national was kidnapped in Morocco was in 1903 when the Times correspondent Walter Harris was held hostage by Moulay Ahmed El Raisuli in the Rif Mountains for 3 weeks before being released unharmed.

We've been to Morocco for the last couple of years but for various reasons we've decided not to go this year.
But since going there we've often kept up with news and weather conditions by in the area by following
www.moroccoworldnews.com
We'll miss not going this coming winter, hopefully next year

Having been to Morocco several times all I can say is that the level of security there is second to none, and still considered one of the safest countries in all of Africa.

It's wise to be aware of potential risks but IMHO it's too easy to let other folks concerns influence your decisions.
If you're considering going, like visiting any other country, as long as you take sensible precautions it's a great place to visit
