MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

I'm not clued up on the newer vans so yours might well have a good 12v charging pack on it as standard anyway.
Yea this is a brand new van I ordered of Carthago when I visited the factory last year and its coming here someday this week, I did put a whole heap of optional extras on it at the time like habitation air con, the 180hp engine & other bits & bobs and I told them I wanted lithium habitation batteries too but apparently because the leisure battery has to fit below that wee passenger seat area 150ah is the biggest output for size they can fit in there....
But as you say Uncle Lenny will put me right lol

Tam you have a fair bit of solar knowledge along with the guidance of Uncle Lenny, so can you tell me what size of solar panel I would need for a 150ah lithium battery (bear in mind I only have a wee panel van roof! Lol) it's mainly for the compressor fridge and charging phones if I go for longer off grid parking

Northernraider going back to buying somewhere in Portugal, thinking about it , it wouldn't be very easy and stay under the radar, to buy it you would need notaries and stuff so straight away you are in the system, I suppose it will be the same everywhere, about the only thing you could do is park up somewhere and hope no one sees you because I suppose it all belongs to someone.

Aye but the folk I know on Instagram and YouTube etc have bought land . . Project Amber being the most well known. Still running UK registered vans , 2 of them living on the land. Both have Portuguese residency .

There's also the wildlanders off grid ..and a few others.

It's nearly 4 year old!!
Unfortunately they stopped making the orange ones from 2021, but if you'd like to put an offer in she's up for sale 😉 lol 🤲

I have a mate who has a villa on the Algarve and he loves it down there, he stays out there several months every year but I don't think he has any residency or anything but he says it's very chilled and relaxed down there...

We're back in messini now and I'm well chuffed as I managed to get my favourite wee corner right on the beach.. there were 2 Italian vans making a good attempt at blocking off access to it but I squeezed through them anyway much to their annoyance but if they didn't take the space more fool them lol. That's me parked now for a few days .. I've a shower outside the door , a fresh water tap and bins nearby ...and I'm literally 10,15 feet from the beach ...so me and the dogs have spent the last hour or two in the water and catching some rays... lovely

A lad from work bought a static in Portugal when he retired a while back and used to drive back and forth a couple of times a year. He didn't bother with residency or sorting out his car and was quite blasé about the whole thing till he got offered the choice of a €6000 fine or have his car scrapped !
ps. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke ! :ROFLMAO:

Dont know why that would have happened as there's no requirement to change your car etc without having residency. Unless he was doing what many brits in Portugal do with uk cars and have the mot certificates posted out without the car ever being in an mot garage.

You can bring your own vehicle to Portugal for up to 183 days in any 12-month period. You must not use your vehicle for any other purpose than tourism or loan it to anyone else.

If you want to stay longer, you must apply to the Portuguese Customs authority to have the car legally imported. You’ll be fined if you leave the country without your car. Source GOV UK

A picture of the roof will give us something to go on regarding the size of panel you can get up there…👍🏼

Nice Carthago Malibu PVC at Go European reasonably specced but hasn't got leather only £100k.

I know what you mean Lenny, mine is going slightly over 100k with all the bits & pieces I've ordered on it! lol
(I could get a couple of good work vans for that.... but not as much fun) 🙂

What colour is your new one?

I liked the orange.

Never much liked the porthole windies on some of them though.

But the poptop is a great idea. And would be great for tilting solar

See that would be alright then as I'd not be in Portugal more than 6 months at a time , but how would they know when you've entered Spain etc as no physical border

OK I'm up now you cheeky sods.

Carthago normally fit Super B Lithium batteries about the best you can get, even the 90ah is getting on for £2k.

The 150ah has a max charge rate of 135 amps & max continuos discharge rate of 200 amps.
So you can take a hell of a lot out of it but you need a means of replacing it so as much solar as you can fit on the roof is a good idea.

You will probably find you can get more solar on the roof using smaller panels even using panels of a different size.

When using panels of different size & manufacturer, you will find the output voltage will vary.
You can either suffer a slight loss as the output will be governed by the lowest voltage panel or fit separate controllers for maximum harvest.

As you are not going to fit them yourself I suggest you have a chat with RogerIvy or nigelivy who run OFF Grid Power Solutions.
Once you have got the van send them a photo of the roof with dimensions of free space on it.
As you know I always do my own electrical work but these are one of the few people I would trust if not doing it myself and you will get a Funster discount.

Rosie loves the portholes! Lol and sure it'll remind me of my boats... 😂
It's white which I like with the black graphics and dark windows, I'm not dying about the other new colours, gunmetal grey and dark blue, not really what I'm after, it's very similar to this one I seen in Carthago last year

Thank you Lenny yes the battery is a Super B 150ah, they told me it will run the compressor fridge no problem for a few days & that by just driving every couple of days and on ehu of course, I might not need solar... 🤔
