So yesterday we spent a lovely day at another beach just outside skala , we were the only ones there which was great, lovely sandy shallow beach you could paddle out about 300 yards and it was only thigh deep .. I spent a good hour just lying in it as the water was warm and it was a hot day yesterday. Dogs had great fun paddling and swimming and then they all took great amusement covering me and my towel in sand afterwards when I was trying to sunbathe ....but it was really great being able to enjoy the beach and not have to worry about other people. No pics from there unfortunately as I left the phone, keys everything in the van so I didn't have to worry about it getting wet etc.

This morning we moved on and I briefly drove in to the parking spot at the shipwreck but basically just did a u turn and left again...it was jam packed with motorhomes , mostly big 8/9 metre German tanks with awnings out chairs, bbq's etc etc ...it was like some of the coastal bits of spain, can see that having a sign up soon. Drove in to gythio itself but didn't stop as very busy .... and on to kamares to another beach spot I spent new year at with Jackie, dave and marsha a few years back ... when I arrived there was only one other camper here .. an ex army Leyland daf truck with a German couple in .. I parked on the other side of a big tree from them .. we had a walk and lunch and when back at the van I was tired so lay down for a nap ... about 10 minutes later I heard another motorhome arriving... loads of banging etc and then a motorbike starting up.... looked out the window and of course it was feckin Germans... they have a brand new monkey bike with a big noisy exhaust and decided to drive up and down the beach road making a racket just for the sake of it ... that went on about 30/40 minutes and finally stopped.

I nodded off ....no sure how long that was for and another van turns up ...this one squeezes right in behind me .. then they let the dog out , some chihuahua half cross thing with the highest pitch bark you've ever heard... and they just left it to do as it liked so it was back and forth barking at every fly that went past , annoying the life out of my dogs and all the time herman doesn't once tell it to shut up or call it back over to his own van , meanwhile there's no way he never heard me having to.repeatedly tell mine to be quiet as they'd just get settled and the little shit would let out with another high pitched sequence of barking at nothing right outside me van ... well over an hour disturbing every other van here ... and then the final straw the little shit did a shit right outside the door of my van and Herman made no effort to come pick it up . So I did and threw it over to his van . At which point he suddenly remembered he had a dog and called it in before calling me ignorant lol. ...he then reversed about 20 feet but the dog is still allowed to just roam about barking like a wee twat. ...feckin Germans... honestly they have to be the most arrogant selfish entitled buggers ever and that's saying something. I was determined I wasn't moving again today but I really hope the bugger leaves tomorrow because I'm so tempted to just let mine out tomorrow to run wild and teach him and his yelp a lesson but I know it would annoy the other folk so I won't...but that annoys me too as my poor dogs often do without the freedom because I'm considerate of other people's peace ....meanwhile some just take the piss.

The motorbike clown was at it again about an hour ago ... I'm sure the few wee houses around here really appreciate idiots like that too.

The older I get the less tolerant I become ...it worries me sometimes how I think I'd love to see these people endure a horrible agonising death lol.

Well ye gotta make it more obvious when you're poking fun lol.

I'm well aware I'm a crabit shite at times ... mostly because I HAVE to bite my lip a lot when I encounter these people. I think I get it from my mum. She didn't tolerate fools lightly either but she did often confront them about it ...maybe women get off lighter who knows. I'm not really a fighter ..I can't be doing with the aggro , I just want peace n quiet sometimes and a hassle free existence.


I really would be a hermit most of the time if I could.

Tam - change of subject - there is always a debate about batteries - you've done more extended trips than most.
Can you tell us your experience with different vans/batteries/solar
Have any of the different setups ever let you down - electrically that is

The short answer to that is all of them really bar the setup I have now .

Every van I felt I was always having to watch my power usage, even the big euramobil with all the solar lost most of its power to the fridge.

This is the first van I genuinely don't have to give power a second thought to and its brilliant. Just the rest of the van I've to worry about lol.

You really need to buy some land in the middle of nowhere! Living in public you are always going to be irritated by the comings and goings of others. I didn't like the living in public aspect of vanlife in park ups. At least on a campsite there's a limited amount of coming and going and some level of order and privacy.

The Dutch bike is a pedalo, looks like a normal electric bike but is much faster , it is registered and you need insurance and a helmet

There are some inconsiderate tw*ts about.
however, admittedly on a campsite. New neighbours, mahoosive motorhome and 2 dogs, had electric bikes and car with them. took 3 days to set up but were going to be there for months. Introduced us to Yaegermeister first night, then had us round for a meal to make up for the disruption, there wasn't much. Nicest German's we ever met, still in contact too.
Would have hated to be in your situation Tam as I am a bit like your mum was

Stayed another night at that beach last night spent the day playing with the mutts ...even had jade swimming a little , not very much but it's progress, ela had been wading in to fetch the toy now too which is great... who knows maybe I'll get them all swimming eventually.

Few more pics from there....also found a tiny turtle/tortoise on the road ...I couldn't tell which it was so I wasn't sure whether to put it in the water or the grass. It was closer to the grass so that won... it was the size of a 50p

Saw a stray similar to blu...well I think it was a stray ..mine were barking at the window so it ran off

Moved on this morning to kotronas ....parked up on the wee harbour . That French family that I had the disagreement with last week when his kid chased blu and she jumped on her turned up ..which I thought would be awkward but thankfully they didn't stay. So apart from one German sprinter we are here alone .

Dogs were in swimming again at the beach then we walked through the village to the wee island on the other side ...its a charming wee place
