MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Have you ever thought about taking up motorhoming a bit more seriously Tam ha ha. Your adventures just get more stunning! Your photos are improving once again :giggle:(y) Good luck to you all for the next phase

Evening ....23.17 here ..we are now another hour ahead of UK.

So we entered Georgia this morning ...smooth enough border crossing, the turks were not the friendliest as we were leaving , Georgians friendly enough ...seems to be a recurring theme .. the border guards don't like you leaving but the ones on entry are different.

Anyway it took around an hour or so to get through. Then we had to drive 7 miles to the official insurance place as the ones on the border are the usual overpriced tourist traps . So 15 days insurance for my van was 60gel ...which is around £17 . Then on to batumi and a search for a phone shop to get Internet. Again lots at the border with overpriced sims but drive to the proper shop and you get an unlimited data sim for 30 days at £12.45. And then I exchanged €50 at a booth for 145gel ...exchange rate on the ground was 2.90 gel to the euro , filled up with diesel at 2.94gel a litre.

I then drove back towards the border then inland a bit and visited mirveti waterfall , 5gel £1.45 to park with a free cup of tea 😁 ...we were getting the hard sell to stay for lunch but didn't take them up on it. Then drove to another picnic spot with more waterfalls about 5 km away .... very very steep and narrow drive up here but we made it ....stray puppy came to say hello .. about 10/12 weeks old I think .

I might just stay here tomorrow night too and explore the waterfalls around us .

It was a lovely warm afternoon but a bot colder this evening

You might want to watch this first!!

I've taken a tag axle on roads worse than that. I did the gorge road in Morocco last year that puts that to Shame lol. We crossed a bridge yesterday with holes in it ... you could see the river below

Having just googled it looks like it's right up near Russia and the mountain range... which I think has a lot of snow at the minute ... 7.5 hours away according to Google. But thats mostly down to the roads I think as they are not the best

Doesn't google just think you'll do 60mph on a 60mph road, so if you only do 20mph it will be 3x that?
Anyway, you wouldn't get me anywhere near a bleak, isolated Russian border ....... !!!

It's definitely not accessible at the moment anyway . And according to a local we were just speaking with there are a few bits in the North where the georgian government advise against travel because of the war.

Well this is just shit news

Have you read that at 31st March the Schengen rules only apply at air and sea borders and that the land borders are still under discussion? My guess is that it willl cost a lot to get all land border crossings linked into Schengen systems.

So it should not affect you on this trip.

Yeah but the Belgian president is pushing for the land borders to also be integrated. Not so much worried with this trip as I'll have been out of shengen 3 months by the time I leave Turkey but for future trips these countries offer a way to extend the trip. Already lost Croatia and now Bulgaria and Romania. It doesn't leave many options

As I have said many times on this topic: become a Resident of a Schengen country, preferably where one tours the most.

It does not affect a UK Citizens rights in UK to come and go at will and to work.

Something to think about Northernraider especially as at the moment you have few ties to keep your base in Scotland and your assets are fairly liquid ie not property.
For example, I think it is maz who has recently relocated to Slovenia

I do not want to go too much off-topic, but since Tam raised the concerns and it is his thread, I will just add that there is no need if Resident there to become liable for tax or re-registering the MH if one is resident for less than 180 days - checks on intra-Schengen borders are rare. ;)

I am Resident in Poland but all my assets and income, therefore tax, is in UK. I keep an address there for various reasons.

It is all doable legally.

So how would Tam or indeed ourselves become Greek residents? When I looked it up there was a €350k investment in property required.

I cannot answer about Greece.

I think if Tam, or you, wish to pursue this topic it would be best in another thread.

[EDIT- Stephen Langtoftlad beat me to it}

I’ve recently asked similar…

The most important thing with keeping eggs eatable is ensure nothing can penetrate the shell. Sailors on trans oceanic trips coat them in vaseline for that purpose. If you put them in water and they float....do not eat them.
I was told you shouldn't put eggs in the fridge as the cooling of the inside may draw bugs through any porous part of the shell especially salmonella. I never keep them in a fridge anyway as there's never room. I do have a plastic box in the van that holds, and protects two dozen and sometimes have another two dozen in original boxes. I don't like to run out of my breakfast eggs , swmbo is allergic to them so isn't bothered. Those silly fridge racks only hold six.
