MOBY GOES TO TURKEY. A tam and pups adventure.

Who operates the Air Traffic Control and on what VHF frequency?
Thank you. I agree with you. I have always hated flying if I'd have conversations with you I would have been more confident (y)

I was just looking back through some of the cave pictures and it confirms one thing to me, they must have had a good supply of alcohol back in them days, how else would you sell the idea of hollowing out rocks to your mates?
It's like an ancient version on 'Round Ireland with a Fridge' 😂 😂

Wonderful photos again Tam . I was amazed to see so many balloons ! Don’t know if I will ever get there but what an amazing sight.
Mind I must confess to having a nightmare after looking at the rock caves and formations . Those triangular shaped ones in my dream were screaming and if you look at them they look as tho they are as well !
Forgive me I’m female and easily influenced !

We left cappadocia yesterday continuing east ....I have to say so far I'm finding the east very boring ....at least the central area is , we drove 180 miles yesterday through pretty much barren , hilly areas , a few one street towns scattered on route and of course near the start the huge city of kayseri which was just a sea of high rise apartment buildings All of which looked fairly new , I followed the d300 not leaving it till the town of gurun to find a stop for the night at a little lake "gokpinder gulu" there was nothing else around....100tl £2.44 for the night.

Drove on this morning through miles more boring road... Still on the d300. And I've now stopped for lunch just passed malatya which was another huge very busy city but with nothing really interesting to see. Massive refuge camp there all with new cabins.
Probably going to stop in elazig for tonight.

I had considered nemrut dagi but the Belgian couple with the vario have tried to get there and got stuck in mud and snow so decided against that. I was contemplating skipping this area and just heading north to the coast of the black sea ...but not sure whether to just push on east to lake van near Armenia border and then head north. Still undecided if I want to go in to Georgia a little or not , one deciding factor would be insurance if I could get 14 days insurance and it was cheap enough then I'd go in for a look .. but not wanting to pay a lot for insurance if it was too cold and not interesting enough to stay. Decisions decisions as they say

Those pictures bought back lots of happy memories!
We drove down there a few years ago , the balloon flight was perhaps the highlight up at 3.30 am then off to the take off site .
My wife is not good with nights but within 3 minutes after take off she was leaning over the basket saying look down there . Totally forgot her fear ! The landing was a little bumpy but no real problem . A never to be forgotten trip !

Been a funny sort of day today. So we briefly visited a waterfall this morning before heading further east.

And then we continued to malatya, Turkey is a bit like Morocco in some ways, the have police/gendarmes with roadside checks when you're entering many big towns .. now apart from once or twice I'm normally just waved through these checkpoints but since leaving cappadocia I was stopped twice yesterday and bleedin 4 times today .. and I've just had them at the door tonight again wanting to check my passport. I mean they are friendly enough ,never speak much English but are always saying welcome etc . One today asked where I was from I said Scotland...he looked at me like I had 2 heads , asked for driving licence .I gave him that and he says you are from Ukraine? ...God knows how he came up with that so i said again Scotland...and he Says ...where is that I've never heard of Scotland 😱 ... I had to say north of England... .the outrage. Anyway I'm still not sure he got it but he gave up and waved me on . As I said they are pleasant enough but it's nippy getting pulled to the side so many times now.. I hope its not like that all the way east.

Anyway the next laugh was trying to buy some baklava.. I used Google translate to ask for a selection of baklava 0.5kg ... she still didn't get it .. kept talking in Turkish and giving me pieces to try .. and then she put all the Same stuff in the box . By which point I gave up lol and just paid and left. I also bought some almonds from a roadside seller and that too was a palava lol. I've enough nuts to feed a small army

We then drove on to elazig and we are parked for tonight by the 8th century bc Castle... other than the castle the town is quite dull.

Oh I nearly forgot

The other interesting thing that happened today.

When I pulled in to go to the shop to buy baklava this guy came up to the window speaking turkish but making sign language asking if I had a jack. Pointing to his vw lt minibus. His back wheel was sat at a funny angle and I assumed he'd been trying to change a wheel and got in to bother. So I dug out a bottle jack and went to give him a hand. It did look like the tyre was a little flat so I just stuck the jack under and started lifting it for him. I made signs asking if he had another wheel and he's just nodding at me ... it was at this point I looked at the wheel closer and the problem was he was trying to drive it with only 2 wheel bolts on the wheel ...both side by side as the other 3 had been sheared off lol ...so the rim wouldnt/couldn't tighten up against the hub .. it was hanging off the van lol. He was trying to tighten the bolts more in the hope it would stay on .. I tried to tell him it wouldn't and he'd need recovered .. I lowered the jack as there was nothing else I could do lol .. but he was nuts .. when I came out the shop he was driving down the hard shoulder with the back wheel wobbling like a clown car .. just before I passed him the wheel came off lol and the hub was on the ground .. and he was still driving . I just got out of there . The drivers in this country are bonkers

You might find if your far enough east Tam they are Kurdish people you are talking to, and although I believe its banned in Turkey many Kurds still use their own language, I know for fact that when we were up around Van etc it was all Kurdish, but lovely people and some of the Kurdish women were gorgeous (not that I was looking of course!) 🤣🤣

Poor Blu, still a puppy, is she teething ?
Do you have a chew toy for her
She is teething but she has teething toys . And she knows better. She had chewed the small table I have before but that was weeks ago and the table top is easily replaced. The armrest on the bench seat however isn't so easy to sort so I'm well annoyed at the wee shite.

Great photos again, I love the mountain view in the first one.
Those tower blocks look grim
Next time tell them your from United Kingdom, they probably watch Eurovision
There's literally hundreds of those tower blocks being built all along this part of Turkey. Not sure if it's down to all the refugees or if something to do with the earthquake last year. But never seen so many .. and all new

I have 536 followers but I very rarely get more than 30 likes on any post 🤷‍♂️.

It's weird how Instagram works though and I can't figure it out.
Reals are the way to go on insta it seems Tam

Seriously hot chilli sauce on the favoured place. Don't ask me how I know. Ask my big dog. The most troublesome one I've ever had til he was 5. Very loving and obedient now but he never chewed again after that culinary 😊

When my Leo came to me he was 9 months old and he chewed the arms on all of my conservatory furniture Just like Blu has and he shagged all of my cushions to death. With his previous owners he had been left for up to 12 hours a day alone so he learnt to entertain himself. He has calmed down now though (he is 2 years old) :giggle:(y) Maybe you could spray the arms and table with something that tastes nasty like a sour apple spray a dog trainer once told me about. Edited to say it is Grannick's bitter apple spray, its stops dogs chewing I doubt you will find in Turkiye but you never know:unsure:

You can often see some east of Bristol.

Not quite the same is it. 😂
I went on a balloon flight over Bristol for my 50th, loved it but it was a bit of a crash landing, there were 8 passengers and I took son and daughter. John chickened out. Hazy evening flight.

I repaired a chair arm that looked just like that after daughter’s house alarm went off with Charlie dog alone inside. Filled it with wood putty, sanded down and stained with wood oil to match. 15 years ago and still looks good now.

Brilliant funny joke pic by the way :ROFLMAO:

Our old van had a chewed armrest, gearstick and handbrake from our little dog. Wasn’t the most comfortable thing to drive after that, everything was spiky but did manage to stop him chewing the steering wheel. Having said goodby to him a few weeks ago, I’d now give anything to go back to those naughty times and have another 15 years with him.
