Mobility scooters

I hope you get it sorted. That’s very disappointing for you both as they’re not cheap! I hope you both still managed to enjoy your time away.
Yes had a great time love Scarborough and the weather was the best , just sit and dream and watch the world go by ! What could be better ?

Thanks everyone for your input thus far.(y)
What I have discovered so far is:
The lightweight Folders have small wheels and limited 2.5" ground clearance in the main, so not much good on gravel or Funster Rally Fields.
The larger wheel models are not folders, and weigh a tonne, some of them are 10Kgs.o_Oeg : The Easy Rider :giggle:;) which TinaL wont drive as she has no biker jacket or Hells Angel Tatts:giggle:

Dilemma: Trying to find a folder, or one that comes apart with larger wheels that will cope with semi off road and soft grass is the problem.
I will keep looking though.
PS: Happy Travels Plumb, Christine, If you reach the bar before we do, mines a pint.(y)

I am waiting for back surgery and find walking any distance difficult. We looked in Able World and were recommended the Vista Pavement scooter. Range of 24 miles. Price circa £1500. We found one almost new 20 miles from us for £ 950.
Have used it whilst away. Copes well with grass and gravel and fairly rough paths. It breaks down into 5 pieces so goes in the garage of the motorhome easily.
Would recommend. I call her Beryl ( the yellow peril)

Range is incredible, our problem was if we wanted to use in the car 🚗 it’s only a Fiat 500 and they are small! You don’t get in them you put them on :ROFLMAO:(y)

Mine is Gertie, daft ain’t we😄

A lot of the on road disabled bays that are marked are much to short for our motorhome and often the criteria states the vehicle has to be within the marked bay , the same applies if there are disabled bays on a car park without height restrictions the bays are to short so again we are stymied. Council’s don’t seem to cater for leisure vehicles and disability. I try to get some clarification from the council parking area we are travelling to prior to our visit. Congrats on your ticket appeal well done.(y);)
We were in Cornwall, trying to visit Padstow, managed to get into a space, no issue, tried the phone a friend parking, apparently even though we fitted into a bay, our Toyota hilux was too big! No issue with similar sized discoveries etc! Used to transport my mobility scooter.

A friend of my wife has offered her a loan of her late husbands scooter, it comes apart in pieces to allow it to easily fit in any car boot, and doesn't weigh much, compared with some.
Its only downfall for us is that the tyres are solid, and it only has a ground clearance of 2.5". It would sink in the grass on rallies, and is mostly designed for flat running on pavements or inside shops/buildings, not so much use on trail paths with puddles etc.
It needs new batteries which are reasonably cheap as a pair of 12V replacements are about £60/70.
We are still considering options, so this thread could be very useful.(y)
Its amazing how much some disability scooters can cost, especially the larger wheel varieties.

Here is a link to one we have been offered.
Why not fit larger wheels?

Why not fit larger wheels?
Bit more difficult than it seems, as you have to consider the gearing, plus the extra strain on the motor, the larger the wheel the more torque is required from the motor. Plus mudguard size may be a problem.
All in all, I think its best to buy one that has the correct wheel size, with motor man enough to drive them, plus of course better ground clearance to allow use on gravel paths & rally fields.
Still looking, its surprising how many list all the specifications, except the important one...being the overall weight.
Here's a good example, but its not a folder or dismantlable, and is pretty massive, but would fit in our MH garage, I think.
Have to wait and see what the weight is from the suppliers contact e mail.

Wondered if anyone knows a good mobility scooter technician that would calls to the home to diagnose a problem and give a written report ?
So that I can present it to the retailer that I purchased the scooter from .
Preferably based in the Worcestershire area there are a few online close to me but unsure which to approach.
Thanks again. (y)

What's the actual problem Plumb?

What's the actual problem Plumb?
Well the scooter randomly comes to an abrupt halt and puts itself into reverse , also the display screen will go black and blank after again stopping randomly!
To restart the scooter push the start/stop button and the scooter then lunges forward alarmingly!
The fault appears after travelling about 1/2 mile to a mile.
This happened after the first time of using the scooter whilst on holiday .
The retailer said they had not heard of it before , and asked us to video it.
We did this on three separate clips of video.
We told the retailer we did not want a repair, but asked for a replacement or refund.
The retailer has declined only if we pay £840 restocking charge.
So I wanted an independent report on the issue to present to them .
Wightman I had hoped that you might pick up on my thread because I believe you were in the business. (y);)

Well first of all I think that's disgusting behaviour by the retailer, which unfortunately gave us all a bad name - and there's plenty out there "take your money and run" as in all walks of life.
If you've given him three video's showing the fault he has two options as far as I'm aware - we would have replaced without quibble.
Assuming this was brand new he either repairs to your satisfaction (and preferable gives you a loan) or he replaces like for like at no further costs to you or comes to an arrangement should you find something he has with full allowance for what you paid originally.
Did they order this model specially for you or is it a "stock" model? Why does he want £840 if he stocks them?
Failure on their behalf to comply either go small claims court or advice from C.A.B.
Regarding the fault we would have been checking all connections - certainly for the sudden stop/cutting out.
Does it have a battery level indicator/LED's showing state of charge - if so do they go to zero when (or just before) the fault appears?
The usual problem for scooter moving when switched on is the forward/reverse control not being in the centre and so giving the main controller (brain of the thing akin to ECU on our motorhomes!!) that it's in gear!! Usually when this happens it should go into fault mode and you get a 0 to 9 bleeps or if fitted the "first" LED will flash 0 to 9 flashes, you count/listen to how many and check your destruction book for fault codes (or Google (other search engines available!!) fault codes for dah-dah model scooter!!
Although difficult to fault find without being next to it PM me the video's if possible and I'll see if anything obvious shows
Best wishes

Ah forgot to ask - does the fault happen on certain types of terrain or after hitting bump/going off pavement etc?
If lights fitted and on do they flicker/go off when fault happens?

Hiya yes the scooter is brand new we said we didn’t want a repair but would accept a replacement as we had only used the scooter twice and it was only 8days old.
He will only repair, we told him if he can’t replace we will reject under the consumer rights act 2015 under the 0/30 day rule, but he still wants the £840 for restocking and only if in original package which we have but not the pallet.
The repair has to be done at the retailer that is a 260 mile round trip.
We have to pack the scooter up in its original carton and a pallet which we don’t have in order to get the repair done ! The delivery driver took the pallet with him when we took delivery.
No the scooter wasn’t a special order he stocks them.
The scooter is travelling on a normal foot way when it happens and the display remains lit and there are blocks showing battery ok .
On the one video I can hear 2 beeps when it’s stopping
On the second video I can only hear 1 beep , but could be 2 beeps not sure !
I have to say wightman the video is difficult to hear because of road traffic noise.
When the scooter does stop as I mentioned the display is illuminated and shows reverse and does after stopping move backwards we have to press the forward/reverse button to then continue on.
Regards plumb (y)

Hope you can see video clips not very good had to walk by the side of scooter with video camera
Thanks wightman (y) :sneaky:

Hi Plumb

Sorry mate try as I might can't get files to open

Running Windows 11 on Surface Pro 4 if that helps!!?
Hiya wightman yes no problems I will try again this time I’ll try and send them without compressing them but the files might be to big?not sure. Wightman I have just tried to upload without pdf and as I suspected the file was to big, so I have tried again. With Apple 🍏 they are not always compatible with other operating systems hope these will open. Funny thing today I thought I’ll see if the problem is still there so I put the scooter in the kitchen and suspended the drive wheel off the floor and put the scooter in cruise control and low and behold after 20 minutes the scooter stopped with blank screen when reset with on/off switch the drive wheel kicked forward and reset! I then ran the scooter a further 10minutes and the scooter emitted 2beeps and stopped and changed to reverse on the display panel . Good luck (y)

I think you have to save the video to a hosting platform like youtube or vimeo and then post a link, any good luck with the replacement Plumb

If you want to PM somebody just click on their name at the side of a post and then click "start a conversation"
