Mo`s CL project.....

Having to rethink for the moment the "Hard Standings".... the field is like a bog.... not a very well draining one like the other one in Dorset..
Not draining very well at all... puddles every where... :xangry:
Have you considered a french drain?

Would it be worth asking a local farmer about pulling a sub soiler through the ground to break up the ground pan, might make it drain better.

This is Sedge (whose PC has blown a gasket - well anyway we've tried all the Try this fixes we can find, so it needs looking at by someone who knows more than we do, so possibly something slightly more technical than a gasket LOL) and it's easier to not log out and log in again as me on Pete's laptop.

Are old fashioned land drains the answer in the CL field? A group we belong to use a rally field where it used to be an airfield during the war - so according to the owner he cannot possibly understand why the really lovely and flat part at the bottom of the hill gets so boggy in winter.

Hello, Mr Farmer - when exactly did you say those drains were laid? And have you done any maintenance in recent decades?

Mo what you have done up to now is nothing short of amazing, your vision and follow through just leaves me open mouthed, I am sure you and Judy will have a lovely comfortable place when you are done, we really are looking forward to visiting you on the CL.
A happy peaceful Christmas to you both in your cosy new home.

Thanks Carol.... And a very merry happy safe Xmas to you and Eddie...

You know you are always welcome any time...  :xThumb:

Only doing what any bloke would do, given that I still have reasonable health and work is what keeps me going... :xgrin:

And if you believe any of that *rap.... :winky: :giggler: I`m knackered... :xrofl:

We had a big problem with rain water drainage in the back garden which came to light the first winter that we moved in. We are on clay about 2 foot or so down plus the garden had a bit of a dip in it in a large area, as a result with weather like we had last week we be past our ankles in standing water and that would take fare time (weeks) to subside if it did not rain again in the mean time.
What we did to over come it may not be suitable for you but it may spark ideas.
We back onto fields which then slope away from our boundary which made this solution possible. We had a mini digger on site at the time so we dug a main channel about 3 foot deep and a small digger bucket wide diagonally from one corner to the other and at the boundary end of the channel we dug a six foot square by 5 foot deep sump/soakaway. We then dug several more channels cross the garden to meet the main channel, again at about 3 foot deep and angled at about 45 degrees towards the direction of the sump. These channels then had a bed of about 6 inches of pea gravel laid in before 80mm perforated pipe was laid in the channels then covered with a further 6 to 9 inches of pea gravel and then back filled with the soil that had been dug out. The dip in the garden was levelled and we re-turfed the whole back garden which was an arm and a leg due to the size of the area but was quick alternative to laying seed. The sump was then filled with brick rubble and topped off at ground level with a mesh grid to allow the sump/soakaway to overflow into the field if it filled right up.
Three winters on and to date we have not had a drop of standing water in the back garden and we have had some right old heavy rain fall at times.

Trouble is the field is pretty flat, and all seems to suffer...

And not really got any low point`s for water to drain off into...

Locals say it has been particularly wet this Autumn.... so case of wait and see..

Or build 5 hard standings on stilt`s...... :giggler:

Thanks for your suggestion.. :xThumb:

I would suggest a drainage ditch down the side of the property with french drains into it. However I am guessing you have already looked into this by the sounds of things... Probably end up with a full draining ditch from your neighbouring properties :D :giggler:

Never a truer word said...

The next field up from us, which is a foot or two higher than us....

I`m sure his water must run into our field... (Can I Sue him..:xdoh::xgrin:)

And the field down from us is the same level as our`s... :xangry:

:xgrin:

Looking good Mo, if you have a rally you can have bog snorkelling events if it’s that wet. (y)

If it helps Old Fella, the spec sheet for our :inlove: Winnebago :inlove:, shows an exterior width of 8ft 5ins, not including the mirrors, but they are way up anyway. You are right it would have to be hit straight on, but theoretically it would work. Perhaps to facilitate things you could just make one post removable, for as and when required.

I know how desperate you are for us to visit and the kudos from having such a magnificent motorhome at your likle CL. But that aside we both appreciate all your efforts on our behalf.

Charge him the same as Severn Trent does to us for removing surface water.

What the hell is that all about?

Mike my bestest Mate...
The post which I might move is the one with No gate leading onto the big hard standing.. the gate at the entrance to the property has had some very large lorries Reverse in (One was I am sure 38ft) with no problem... took two bites to align straight but did it.. :xThumb:
Plus they are concrete, and I aint lifting them out for No One..:xgrin:

So when can we start booking Mo looking fabulous and well done to you guys

Thanks. But still a lot to do...

Any time.... it`s free till we are all sorted and up and running proper, which will or should be subject to weather about April.. till then parking would have to be on the big hard standing, with no views as such, but no chance of getting bogged down..

Bus stop outside into Stafford town centre, runs every half hour there and back, superb pub restaurant just over the road.. :xThumb:

Just PM/Conversation me when..

PS.......... No EHU at the moment, but could run a hookup from the house..

You have your own 360 machine Mo, find the lowest point and dig a decorative pond and then dig land drains leading to it, it may be the drains will need to be relatively shallow to get a fall but a number of drains could well solve the problem.
You have the machine and plastic perforated pipe is cheap enough.

Sorry Very @old-mo fellow type person. I misunderstood which entrance you were rattling on about. Never had any trouble before, in finding the right entrance. :emo: Anyway, when you are ready we look forward to receiving our gold trimmed invitation to visit. :xThumb:

How about a swimming pond in the middle ... apparently they're all the rage now instead of swimming pools! Mind you, the thought of some funsters skinny dipping is a worry! :xsurprised:

So any funsters that want to call in in passing or come to see Haughton Xmas lights are more than welcome...

Due to it not being a CL till all is finished there is NO Charge..:xThumb:

All you get is free parking, Water, and a manhole till I have built a purpose "Elsan Disposal Point".. same as Black Down View in Dorset..
