That side door is definitely getting painted white on the top half . Might just do the window frames white too ...then ill see what the bottom half looks like primed.

Mot for mums car this morning and i really hope it passes .....

Its quite frustrating with mum .....she cant drive anymore DVLA revoked her license due to her eyesight but she insists on keeping her wee picanto car that shes had since new ...her excuse being she finds the seat comfortable and she keeps her rolater ( walking aid ) and blue badge in it .... doesn't like my car and will only tolerate ny sister's car ( also a picanto ) on rare occasions ....so her car gets driven by me once a week to asda and back and thats it

Its done a total of 11000 miles in 10 years , only 500 miles in the last year , its in great condition bodywise and interior but the underside suffers from lack of use ...it has lots of surface rust on all the suspension , brakes etc etc as a result of not being used ....so after my sister leaving it on the hill and it rolling down and hitting my car it was discovered that the handbrake while only having a few clicks was actually not engaging the brakes properly ....so i spent a good 2 or 3 hours yesterday dismantling all the rear calipers and freeing everything off and adjusting it ..its now better but not great and i fear it may be needing rear calipers done ...... personally i think we should sell it on and let someone else use it but mum gets quite upset everytime i mention that and says about losing independence etc and about things being taken from her , her license, eyesight , use of her arm etc .....i can sympathize as it must be frustrating ...but the mechanical side of me thinks its such a shame for a vehicle with that miles to just waste away and cost more time and money than its worth ....the way the underside is going its going to start needing new bits every year whilst doing nothing.

so im hoping it passes this morning otherwise im going to have to spend time i dont really have trying to fix it again

but im going to have to up the persuasion to sell it this year .......
I hope you do better than my granddad did with my grandma. She crashed into a car. She had early state dementia. The police said if she surrendered her licence and sold her car they would not prosecute her.

Grandad sold the car.

A month later a brand new micra was delivered by a dealer. She had bought it. She said no one said she couldn't get a new car. Bless her. She liked the idea of having a car.

That hab door must have cost a good few quid Tam.
Aye it seems well done ...i still can't tell if it had a slider originally or no door ...its not obvious. The rear panel is quite good too ...the top part is definitely fibreglass.

I think when it was first done it was probably very smart ...the windows wouldn't have been cheap either.

Underside is very rusty but cant see any sign of it having ever been welded.

But showing its age

ih campervans fit those doors it seems, a 3.5k extra 😳😳😳

Edit. Two sorts of doors.

Thinking about the door, I wonder if it was on the caravan originally so was transferred to the van?

I dont think its a caravan door ...its definitely from a motorhome and a decent quality one 2 it has the 40mm thick wall and the 6 point locking bolts on it ...my burstner and frankia had that buy the hymer was only a 25mm thick door with single lock point.

The rear has been made from fibreglass too so I'm wondering if its been a professional conversion ...just a low budget one ...

So i got a bit more work done on the iveco today ....

Im having a dilemma in regards to the spare wheel ....theres no place to put it as the water tanks are now where the wheel used to be ... I don't think i can mount it on the back and i cant put it on the roof as i need that space for solar and id have to buy a rack ....no place to put it inside either. So as many vans no longer come with one anyway im weighing up whether to just leave it and carry that gunk stuff in case of a puncture ....of course there's always the risk of a blowout etc etc etc ...so i don't know what to do.

Thanks for the update Tam.
Can’t the spare wheel be mounted on the back doors like on some 4x4s? I know they’re heavy ish and that may put too much weight on the door hinges but we do see them mounted on the back of PVCs. I have also seen spare wheels mounted on the front. Mostly seen this abroad though.

Can you weld a bracket up and put it under the van? Even just a big piece of m16 thread with a central spindle or two in the same size as the wheelnuts and fix it?

Do you have a rear ladder ? You could then fabricate a drop down plate that would allow the wheel to be bolted through the ladder & weight supported by the plate. I made one for mine but don't leave it on all the time just attach it to support 2 x steel jerry cans for additional diesel.
I wouldn't travel without a spare wheel.

Is there any space behind the passenger seat for the wheel (let out a bit of air to be safe)?
