Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

So after a good few hours messing around with mums brakes i had an hour spare to go out for a nosey in the van ....its filthy thats my first observation and its a little rough and ready when you get past the innitial tidy looking interior. The toilet / shower compartment is pretty grim at the minute ...the tray is knackered the toilet is well used and a bit past it , the walls are plastic wet board but the glue holding them to the walls etc has failed so they need reattached. ...so a bit of work needing done in there.

Eberspacher airtronic d2 works ok ...had it running a good 10 minutes or so , gas fire does light...not sure how good it is , hob, oven and grill all work , shurflo pump works but no water in it , all lights work , theres a truma 10l boiler the same as fitted in the caravan that works on gas or 240 ...the fridge ive not fully investigated yet but freezer door is broken so that needs new catches , 2 x leisure batteries ...the wee windows are showing green I've not put a tester on them or that yet to see voltage or if the split relay works etc ...not sure how he configures the cushions to make a bed up ...theres a compressor in beside the batteries which works of a switch but not sure what that does .

I scored a very large very heavy garage type trolley jack as that was under the rear seat ...he did tell me there was a jack there but didnt expect one so big .

So the basics work ....

I took some pics once id taken the spare wheel and jack etc out .

Bathroom / toilet does look a bit grim but the rest looks like it would clean up ok and if the appliances work I think you got a good deal.
I'm sure you'll have it in good shape for your trip.
Have you tried the trolly jack, I'm sure you'll make use of that 👍

I think I'd have to dye those red seats though 🤢

compressor suggests it may have air suspension the rest looks ok from here
Yes have a look under the back see if it has the half leaf springs with air bags the amblances used to have or it might just have had air bags fitted to supplement the springs

For £3k Tam I think that’s a bargain.
Apart from tidying the shower/toilet it looks ok to me.
Yes I agree, just two points. The steering wheels on the wrong side and those ‘effin seats need a public health warning before you look at them! 😎😎

:giggler: :giggler:

Looks excellent for the brass

An old mechanic I used to know, he’s no longer with us, when looking around for vans to buy used to say this.

“If the gear sticks on the floor, get it bought, then look for more
But if the gear sticks on the dash, get outa there, in a flash”

He always said much better reliability when you look for this.

I like the red seats too although they do look as if they could have come from a tart's boudoir ... maybe that's why Tam bought it!

Tam's Totty Tank!

Have the batteries got breather pipes to the outside?

Looks like you got an absolute bargain.
Definitely need to beef up that wiring, would be surprised if the Eberspacher start up is reliable with those tiny cables., You need some practice for wiring up the Vario.

Yes , as Lenny & others have said the downfall of the eberspacher ,even in coachbuilts, is undersized wiring.

Looks likes a real passion wagon from the 70’s. A chick magnet. Wee bit of tidying and hopefully you will have a great winter break in it. Come the Spring double your money. Enjoy.

Bathroom definitely the worst bit ...but i dont think ill have time to source and fit a shower tray in it ..will see

The rest just needs a good hoover out and a scrub ...

Trolley jack works its a nice bit kit very handy but too big to carry in the van travelling.

The seats are definitely a marmite item but very comfortable ...i thoughy they looked like something from a hoor hoose in the pics but not as bad in person

The guy said it was for airhorns but ive not checked it out yet ...if its for horns ill be removing it .
Looks ok for the money.
Battery wires don’t look heavy enough
The wiring is a bit spaghetti junction nothing labelled either 🤦‍♂️
I love the red seats! 🤩
Marmite item for sure

Ill check it out but guy seemed to Reckon it was for horns
I would have a job to fault it, most of the stuff is same as ours (y)
Its good for the money i think
Tam, you have proved there are still bargains to be had. Enjoy your trip
For what you payed for it Tam I think it’s ok. By the time you sorted a few things out will be ideal for a winter trip and then sell on at profit. (y)

Yep i think so ...time will tell

Will have to trace all the wires as nothing is labelled either.

Tam,
This product comes recommended from a caravan/Motorhome repairer to tart up your shower. I have never used it
