Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

Talking of number plates, don’t forget to buy your UK stickers or a magnetic UK thingy before you set off. :giggle:

Tam, will you make a bed up permanently in your “winter” van? I was just wondering if putting in a bed mattress might be more comfortable than jigsaw cushions?
No where to put one unfortunately

Don’t you have the back seating area and side seats at the front?
It has a small seating area at the back but when made to a bed you can't get in the toilet compartment. I also plan to put the pull out bit and extra cushions in the loft as i wont use them ....ill just make the bed up at the front ..

So i managed to get all the plastics back on and painted today .....its better than the peeling paint .

Ive decided against sanding all the blue paint off as i really dont have the time to do all that at the minute so the bits that are peeled i will see if i can get a paint match i think or ill cover with a sticker or 2 ...

I think that having to make a bed up each night is gonna really get on your nerves seeing as you've been used to have one you can just flop into so going from the photos of the rear L lounge ...

I'd be tempted to remove all the rear cushions and put in a 3ft single bed mattress as this would give you a ready made bed which would still allow access to the loo; if you left the small seat part and put a tray on top you'd have a bed-side table, alternatively take out the small cushion and put a crate or even a suitcase there to store other bits and pieces in still leaving you with the top of it as a 'table' area ... you can never have enough storage! You could also remove the washroom door completely and put a curtain up in it's place, or use the existing shower curtain to cover the gap so it looks 'respectable' during the daytime, you won't need to worry about having enough space to open the door fully then.

From the difficulty you've had with the window panels I thought you were a short pip-squeak!

Yeap that's the one, shame they didn't do a decent van tour. Chopped about here there and everywhere!

Weather has been shitty here today ...raining most of it so ive been cleaning inside the iveco ....looks a bit better now

It has let water in in the past around both the very rear window and the rear n/s side window as the walls below them are a bit spongy ...it might still be letting in so ill have to put a bit sealer around those ....the fancy side door is letting in water now and the trim around the top inside is rotten and wet ...so that needs sourced and dealt with also ...im hoping its just also needing sealed along the top .

These are the items i found during clean out ....

Thats an unopened packet of cigarettes ...yet the guy was smoking prison style rollups ...

Couldn't believe the amount of sawdust under the seating etc you'd think it had never been hoovered since it was built

Figured out how to make a reasonably comfortable bed ...

Its a little short for me but if i sleep diagonally its ok .

The red scatter cushions and one ( seems to be extra back cushion ) are being put up the loft .

Im unsure at present whether this fridge is working or not ...so that needs investigation too.....that could be a right pain if it isnt.

Cannot believe you got that van for £3.5k!

Ps I'd remove the pic of the funeral service with personal details on it.....?

Cheers James

I'd be putting a mattress in where the bed is made up, not ideal having to crawl over it or get in/out through the hab door but a better nights sleep.

If not a mattress, a mattress topper, more manageable size wise and should make a difference to comfort.
