Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

Im considering ordering a 6kg refillable gas it bottle for it £210 for the kit. I only have space for the one bottle unfortunately.

Also thinking about a solar panel and controller but it would just be a cheap kit as i don't want to spend a fortune on thos van .

I think ill also need to get the timing belt done and an oil change and possibly a couple of tyres ...so it adds up

Also need some 12v power points etc fitted . And id like to tidy up the outside a bit too .

It might be too far gone for that but ill see ...i think the wood under it is soft which is half the problem.. i can if need be survive on outside showers and flanel washes if i need to ..

That gas locker needs room sealing. Has it got drop vent? Also there should be a drop vent under the fridge, cooker and gas water heater.

Yeah theres a huge hole under the gas bottle its actually under the van but with a hatch under the seat to access it .
 
Are you going to live in the new van or continue in the caravan for now? What can you put up with re your travels in the new van?

Staying in the caravan for now ...van needs work done and easier to do when not living in it.

I was thinking that but i will likely fit an underslung tank to the vario .

I was looking at portable ones but can buy a cheap 200w solar panel kit for around £150 but i think it would add more than that to the resale value of the van anyway
 
For the shower Ty it might be worth looking at Speedcoat
When utilising the SPEEDLINER EURO HC® product to repair cracked shower trays the spray coating will on average be applied up to 1.5 – 2mm. thickness and has the finally cured strength and flexibility not to crack, warp or prevent the shower tray to deteriorate again beneath the coated surface.

I looked at it once but didn’t use them in the end, maybe someone else has experience?

I spoke with them before regarding the hymer as it had a hairline crack but they quoted £450 which was way too much.
I could completely rebuild this bathroom area for less than that ....its time thats going to be my problem before i head off.

I don't ignore anyone but in this case , when logged in , I can't see any of his posts anywhere other than his original post.

I believe/ assume he can't see any of my posts. I think this is called being put on ' 2 way ignore!'

Ive a few people on ignore as they contributed nothing but criticism or pointless posts. I was assured by Jim last year that it was a 2 way thing and that if i set someone to ignore they could no longer see my posts or threads ...but that doesn't seem to be the case .

Because there are clearly posts being made on here that i can't see but others can as they are replying to them.

Which was my concern last time ss there's very little point in being able to ignore someone if they can still access your content 🤷🏻‍♂️ it just causes confusion with posts as sometimes im logging on to my own thread and have no idea what people are talking about because they are answering someone who's comments I can't see.
 
Mot for mums car this morning and i really hope it passes .....

Its quite frustrating with mum .....she cant drive anymore DVLA revoked her license due to her eyesight but she insists on keeping her wee picanto car that shes had since new ...her excuse being she finds the seat comfortable and she keeps her rolater ( walking aid ) and blue badge in it .... doesn't like my car and will only tolerate ny sister's car ( also a picanto ) on rare occasions ....so her car gets driven by me once a week to asda and back and thats it

Its done a total of 11000 miles in 10 years , only 500 miles in the last year , its in great condition bodywise and interior but the underside suffers from lack of use ...it has lots of surface rust on all the suspension , brakes etc etc as a result of not being used ....so after my sister leaving it on the hill and it rolling down and hitting my car it was discovered that the handbrake while only having a few clicks was actually not engaging the brakes properly ....so i spent a good 2 or 3 hours yesterday dismantling all the rear calipers and freeing everything off and adjusting it ..its now better but not great and i fear it may be needing rear calipers done ...... personally i think we should sell it on and let someone else use it but mum gets quite upset everytime i mention that and says about losing independence etc and about things being taken from her , her license, eyesight , use of her arm etc .....i can sympathize as it must be frustrating ...but the mechanical side of me thinks its such a shame for a vehicle with that miles to just waste away and cost more time and money than its worth ....the way the underside is going its going to start needing new bits every year whilst doing nothing.

so im hoping it passes this morning otherwise im going to have to spend time i dont really have trying to fix it again

but im going to have to up the persuasion to sell it this year .......

Well it passed but handbrake is still a bit weak on it ....its apparently common on the Kia's according to mot inspector .

But at least its out the way so im going out now to nose the iveco in the drive and explore it a bit more. Its blowing a gale here today so i cant paint over the primer on the merc.
 
IIRC the picanto has an adjuster on the cable in between the front seats , if you sell it and you are away the sister will only have her car , and if that has a fault while you not there no reserve vehicle ?

Aye i know and i used that adjuster yesterday but its all rusted and siezed at the calipers so i think it needs more attention there .....my sister's car is brand new so shouldn't have any issues with it ...but im hoping to convince mum to sell hers when im back in spring.

My car will be getting sold before i head off

I had considered that ....but again its all time ...4 weeks isn't long when ive still the other side of the vario to do too.
 
Made a start , sunstrip and all the stickers are off ....stripped the plastic panels off the drivers side and rear ready to sand and paint ...and got the arches sanded on this side. Its not to bad under the trims ...will give it a bit of a clean up under there before i refit the plastics

Have you found out what the compressor runs yet.

Nope ...but like i said the guy said airhorns . Theres no bags on the rear just single leaf springs.
