Lots of FLT at La Zenia (SE Spain)

I said we were parked out side the Aire and had more room between vans than the Aire and even had some grass. Some vans in the Aire were parked on the roads not pitches with no space at all.
That'll probably be the van from Belgium who's parked outside the gate for weeks and weeks to keep his French and German mates company who have been parked inside the aire for the same lengthy period.
I've never seen so many vans on the streets opposite the aire but as you say, it's better parking, more spacious and quieter than inbthe air.

Thanks for clarifying that MichaelT. I now know exactly where you were parked. I know the area very well as we once lived there and have since been back many times with the van to visit friends. We always use Area Narejos. I’ve not seen the extra adjacent camping completed that the owner Antonio was developing. The tarmac used to be the Saturday market when we lived there, which is now on the main road nearby.

Certainly far too many motorhomes now, I don't think it would make a lot of difference how many official places they build, at Castellon aire always packed and lucky to get a space are putting in the start of barriers, but it will still be packed for it's location.
Castallon has quite a few 'permanent' residents on the aire staying not days, weeks, but for many months - we've seen them ourselves and it's obvious they haven't moved. They create their own little piece of their home country and if they do have to leave the aire they'll leave items on the parking spot to stop others using them. It doesn't always work though as we've witnessed people moving stuff and on one occasion a woman was sat in a deck chair reserving a spot for friends so a MHer who had pulled into the aire just reversed in and, not wanting to get squished, she moved!

We've always said that if we were in the same situation and wanted a spot when one was being obviously blocked we'd move their stuff ... don't think we'd resort to squishing someone though but certainly give them a fright! :giggle:

Unfortunately Castellon isn't regulated even though it's rules state 48 hours max so at least putting in barriers will hopefully stop the ones who stay longer but how it's going to work with the services being inside is gonna be interesting. I just hope it's not going to end up being a Camper Stop/Camping Carpark so the services are in effect off limits to anyone who doesn't want to pay €10 or more for the night. When we go there we always go to the local shops for stuff (especially the pastel de natas) as do many others judging by the amount walking back to their MHs with loads of shopping but if it ends up being a chargeable aire I suspect it'll seriously reduce the number of MHs.

One thing they have done already is to put up signs to stop MHers parking on the one-way road next to the sports area wall, it's a good thing as the road is too narrow so even though they park parallel to the kerb they stick out into the roadway and make it difficult for buses etc to get by as well as MHs.

The Mazarron town hall passed some new regulations for motorhome parking around 5 years ago. Nothing happened. The following year the whole of Murcia passed the same regulations. Guess what? They've still not introduced them. In the meantime the problem has increased fourfold.

Every year since, we've expected that signs and/or physical barriers will appear in the sensitive coastal areas, once most of the vehicles have left. Zilch.

I blame the authorities for being so lax in implementing their own rules and letting the problem grow.
Javea enforced it.

No double standards from us. We're only against the long stayers and the ones inconsiderately parking and taking up multiple spaces, even disabled spaces in some cases.

You're right, we do stop where we want and we want to be able to continue doing so. The difference is we park considerately, within a marked space if required, and don't overstay our welcome. We'd really like to continue doing so but we can see that this may change due to the present situation.

Nothing to do with where we live, we'd feel the same in other countries also. Why is consideration such a hard thing for some people?

Is this acceptable? Not to us. Widely advertised on their YouTube channel.

I fail to understand these people who need to have everything on display... I take something out the van ie the scooter ...I use it and when I come back I put it back inside...
Folk seem to unload their van like they're saying to the world look what I've got ...they've no idea if discretion at times.

That sitting with chairs and solar out and scooter etc all outside and then taking up the disabled bays ( used or not ) just winds people up .

Theres no need for it

And Murcia probably inherited some of those displaced motorhomes 😡
To be fair, motorhomers were tolerated on the beach overnight out-of-season and during the day in season.

Then came the post Covid brigade.

I remember two German registered motorhomers who pitched up side-by-side. Erected a huge tarpaulin shelter with bikes, surf boards, chairs. Literally set up camp.

So along came more and soon the height barriers came.

You can still park close to the arenal and overnight at the back. With a double aire/service point on the way in/out of Javea on Cansalades .

So unless you can get on the campsites, you are limited .

All the streets in castellon now where you could park before have "solo turismo " signs and are enforced ...I got moved from there in December

All the ones from that flooded aire at playa carraleona are now in aguilas where its normally banned and San Juan de la terreos. There's still a few hundred on the calcadores beach though that have the under 5 metre signs ....very few are under 5 metre . But it looked like a swamp when I drove through yesterday

Where was that tam?
These ones .

One of my favourite quiet wee spots right by the beach.
Because folk have abused it. It's a shame as they were both good places and I spoke to locals at them spots and no one really minded.

Till folk take the piss.

That's a real bummer as the Playa de la Ermita is our favourite spot, we get our chairs out but only on the beach, no different to someone without a MH. The dogs are gonna be really peed off as they love it there especially if there's a pile of sea grass for them to run up and down and around.

Hopefully, some that are almost ready to go home, will go early with this bad weather.

Even the road near our apartment was flooded this morning. We've never seen it under that much water. Our poor outdoor workers are working well clearing drains, whilst we're inside looking out.

When we were on the strip at la manga we had a thunderstorm and everywhere flooded, there doesn't seem to be any drains anywhere so nowhere for the water to go.

We have drains but they couldn't cope with the deluge. It's all clear now though.

The big carpark further north opposite the beach, we were moved last year, they allowed us to park on the road for one night then go. 🙄 Bob.

That was closed off completely when I passed in December hence lots of vans in the streets near the aire but police moving everyone

Quite a bit of flooding around totana thus morning too and a few small landslides on the road down from the sanctuary... didn't stop raining till I hit the outskirts of alicante

I can't talk as I used that excuse to the police when they told me to move ...I said I thought coches was cars and tourismos was tourists 😉
I thought it better to plead ignorant than let him think I'd deliberately ignored the sign 😁🤣🤣

Not surprised about Moraira, stayed about 10 days ago and never seen it so busy. Many Dutch with their deckchairs out, some leaving their bikes chairs and genny out all night. Just taking the p*ss.

We'd sometimes drive the hire car down there from the apartment and have a picnic and watch the world go by. Of course there is the car park at Carabassi just over a kilometre north. I have, in years past, seen the odd motorhome parked up there in the winter months. If you turn right at the junction, there's some 'on street' parking up towards where the Blue Monkey beach bar is.

If one is just parked(no camping) on a street with no parking restrictions, what can they ticket you for if you do not move?

What happens if you see them and go 'shopping'?

I am only delving into this because I want to decide whether I want to visit Spain.

If there's signs on every street saying "solo tourismos " "cars only" and you're in a camper then they can fine you. That's how they've got round it in castellon, every street has these signs now
