Lots of FLT at La Zenia (SE Spain)

I said we were parked out side the Aire and had more room between vans than the Aire and even had some grass. Some vans in the Aire were parked on the roads not pitches with no space at all.
That'll probably be the van from Belgium who's parked outside the gate for weeks and weeks to keep his French and German mates company who have been parked inside the aire for the same lengthy period.
I've never seen so many vans on the streets opposite the aire but as you say, it's better parking, more spacious and quieter than inbthe air.

Thanks for clarifying that MichaelT. I now know exactly where you were parked. I know the area very well as we once lived there and have since been back many times with the van to visit friends. We always use Area Narejos. I’ve not seen the extra adjacent camping completed that the owner Antonio was developing. The tarmac used to be the Saturday market when we lived there, which is now on the main road nearby.

Certainly far too many motorhomes now, I don't think it would make a lot of difference how many official places they build, at Castellon aire always packed and lucky to get a space are putting in the start of barriers, but it will still be packed for it's location.
Castallon has quite a few 'permanent' residents on the aire staying not days, weeks, but for many months - we've seen them ourselves and it's obvious they haven't moved. They create their own little piece of their home country and if they do have to leave the aire they'll leave items on the parking spot to stop others using them. It doesn't always work though as we've witnessed people moving stuff and on one occasion a woman was sat in a deck chair reserving a spot for friends so a MHer who had pulled into the aire just reversed in and, not wanting to get squished, she moved!

We've always said that if we were in the same situation and wanted a spot when one was being obviously blocked we'd move their stuff ... don't think we'd resort to squishing someone though but certainly give them a fright! :giggle:

Unfortunately Castellon isn't regulated even though it's rules state 48 hours max so at least putting in barriers will hopefully stop the ones who stay longer but how it's going to work with the services being inside is gonna be interesting. I just hope it's not going to end up being a Camper Stop/Camping Carpark so the services are in effect off limits to anyone who doesn't want to pay €10 or more for the night. When we go there we always go to the local shops for stuff (especially the pastel de natas) as do many others judging by the amount walking back to their MHs with loads of shopping but if it ends up being a chargeable aire I suspect it'll seriously reduce the number of MHs.

One thing they have done already is to put up signs to stop MHers parking on the one-way road next to the sports area wall, it's a good thing as the road is too narrow so even though they park parallel to the kerb they stick out into the roadway and make it difficult for buses etc to get by as well as MHs.

The Mazarron town hall passed some new regulations for motorhome parking around 5 years ago. Nothing happened. The following year the whole of Murcia passed the same regulations. Guess what? They've still not introduced them. In the meantime the problem has increased fourfold.

Every year since, we've expected that signs and/or physical barriers will appear in the sensitive coastal areas, once most of the vehicles have left. Zilch.

I blame the authorities for being so lax in implementing their own rules and letting the problem grow.
Javea enforced it.
