LIFE AFTER HELGA !!!!

Evening,,

went to work today,, ended up digging holes for the concrete, to support the new piers I have to build to support the steel which takes the back of the house!!
Had to straddle the existing footings of the house, but all done and waiting for ballast tomorrow, so I can concrete! View attachment 420992View attachment 420993View attachment 420994
Ian, just seen the photos. Does the excavations extend under the old footing- they need to in order to achieve a square base pad. Assume 300 wide dig each side plus 600 wide old footing to make a 1200 pad. I would go a minimum of 300 under old footing and then put in some mesh reinforcement. Make sure Building Inspector inspects prior to concreting, to see that it complies to what has been specified by designer.
David.

he doesn’t specify or even mention steel David,, but drawing says 1200 x1200x500 deep,, dug under existing footings by 250 ml,, they are already 500 deep, but I know it needed to go under!

Good to read that you have gone underneath the old footing - I have seen cases where builder has dug down each side only which, effectively, results in three separate pieces of concrete instead of a pad! No need to concrete over the top. Not easy digging under footings with limited working space. You will be glad to get out of the ground on this one 👍

I’ve never done this type of foundation before David,, been interesting! And I did go over the top as well, looks a lot better anyway! lol. Thanks for your help and info,,

every day is a school day!! Lol.

Good Morning Ian, hope your enjoying your brew, have a good day.

good morning ian, hope you're keeping well, you've been very quiet on here but maybe that's because you're working hard..

so how's that extension going ian, must be getting near to finishing?

.

Good morning,,,

well it’s not raining here,, yet!!
I don’t think in all the time I’ve been in and around Norfolk, that it’s ever rained so much for such a period of time,, I thought Norfolk was one of the driest counties in the country!!

it’s hurt me a bit, at work I mean,,, cost me probably two weeks ,, but all good,

I’m just getting round to finishing the roof on this job, then the inside work begins!!

living in the flat is great, but it’s amazing how quickly I’ve got back into a routine of work, eat, sleep, and I must admit, looking at the same view( car park) every morning and evening is really boring,,, I know it’s been strange times and I’ve been lucky this year, but it’s a vast difference with no Helga, it’s quite strange how quickly I’ve realised Inow live in a small bubble! Work, flat, work, flat eat, sleep repeat!!! Not moaning too much though,, I’m a lucky boy!!

Got a few work enquires coming in, and there seems to be no shortage of work in the area!! Which is good!!

hope your all well and I shall chat and update later,,,, Have a lovely Monday,,,

Good morning Ian, good to see you posting, it's a strange old time all around, bet your glad you have not been parked in a muddy site somewhere with all this rain, you'd have had webbed feet. Life is a bit like that do and reapeat at the minute nothing much seems normal, when our freedom returns I'm going to appreciate it that's for sure.
Really good that you're work is coming in and it's the type you enjoy, minus the rain of course.

Pleased that you are posting again Ian as I, and many others, were getting concerned. Presumably the building in of the monster beam went to plan, any update photos?
I type this sitting on my Lafuma chair beside the camping table as our house is now empty of furniture with our actual moving out day next Monday. We are sleeping on mattresses on the floor! This is the nearest to camping that we have been this year! However, we are intending sleeping in the motorhome at the bungalow as still no kitchen, bathroom or hot water/heating (hopefully, plumber will sort out latter this next few days - been a right pain with tradesmen coming, especially the plumber who, when he comes for the day, turns up at 9.00 and leaves at 11.15!). Have had a hire van all weekend so had long hard days, got to return it by 8.00.
Keep posting.
David.

Yep,that’s life Ian!
I suppose the best way to look upon it is that now is the best time to work your socks off,as travel is difficult, make loads of dosh, and look forward to the time when you can enjoy the fruits of your labours!:giggle:(y)

It sounds, Ian, as if you need to make some time for yourself as in a hobby or a short break away somewhere!
You will get stale just work, sleep, eat!
Variety is the spice of life!
We are all getting fed up with this weather, it seems to be conniving with Covid to bring us all to our knees!

Greàt to hear you're ok Ian.
As others have said, many of us are in this boring routine at the moment. It will pass.
Do you ever wonder where Helga is? Is she having adventures or parked up somewhere sitting out the virus. I hope she's on the road.
We're looking to get another motorhome. Not sure if you remember I wasn't totally on board selling the Swift? Looking for something smaller now.
How are your plans going for a van conversion?

Karen

Good to see you posting Ian! (y)

We all miss your updates, but glad things are generally going in the right direction - notwithstanding the weather...

Best of luck with your current projects.

Cheers, Mike

Morning ianthebuilder hope weather improves a bit for us all, little chance at this time of the year.
Timeyou moved your chair and painted yourself, or bought, a nice sunny mural, beter than looking at a carpark.

You need a plan Ian unless your happy with sleep eat work till you shuffle off
This year has been difficult with restricted travel but I work to raise a pot then go off for a few weeks should be easier for you as most of your jobs will be weeks rather than jobbing as I do

Evening,,,,

I had a good day today,, well relatively good,, it didn’t rain!

I must admit though that this job has been hard work, on my own,,, enjoyable but hard! I have 4 trestles and six scaffold boards and that’s been it for scaffold,, hardest part was taking it all down every couple of hours, moving it and setting up and loading out again! But the customer is paying me for my time, so I’m not too bothered, and what’s important is, he’s very happy! I reckon not having a labourer has earn’t me at least another 2 weeks money! Lol.

I must admit I’m not missing Helga, but I think that’s because of these strange times, and restrictions, and also I don’t look at her every day and think let’s go!! Lol.

The housing association that I am with, victory, has or is merging or being bought by a larger association, increasing the scope of property that would be available to me, if I ever wanted to swap,, they are quite a big concern so I don’t know if they will help or hinder! But I suppose as long as I continue to pay my bills, all will plod along as normal???

on a personal note, I don’t know if I’m happy or disappointed! My granddaughter is expecting a baby,, and it pisses me off,,,, another life wasted, destined to be a non working single mother (when he’s had enough and leaves, after the excitement has worn of!! ) he may not, but I doubt it!! Or should I be happy for them? It’s all A load of old bollox,,, and to be honest I’m sick of all of em,,,I only get texts asking for money,, but I am getting less now that I don’t reply! Lololol. They may have got the message!

anyway, grizzle over, I hope all will be well for both mum and imminently sue son! You can’t tell kids anything can you? Lolol

right I’m off for a bit of grub,,, chat later, will update on job with pics in week,, enjoy your evening! Xxxxxx

It's a new life coming, young Mums do so much better now that education is life long, look for the positive. But they have to make their own way so only give what you can afford to give.

Glad your ok Ian
I’m the same work eat sleep repeat haven’t been away even thou I have had four weeks holiday

Evening,,,

another full day,, started screeding the floors yesterday am, nearly finished, and I would have, but the lads who do the gas supply turned up so I had to dig a trench for pipe etc,, still, all done now so I can finish tomorrow and it has a weekend to go off before a pair of boots goes on it and dances!!!
I will post some pics tomorrow, I have to update the Facebook page so I shall do both!

working sat, but I have a Sunday off,,I think I shall be driving somewhere but I havnt heard anymore yet!! We shall see!!!

rained again, for most of the day, but it’s nice to work under an almost finished roof,( just lead, and a couple of ridges to do) ,,,,but bone dry inside!!

I hope your week is going well, chat tomorrow, xxxxx

Looks like you been busy Ian. Keep up the good work mate. (y)
