Lenny's on the road to Portugal

Now at a wild spot near the dam. Been raining this afternoon, not happy that's over a day of rain since we have been away.

Now at Elvas, well not quite, we are up at the castle above the town. All parking has been stopped by the aquaduct.

Lenny, I am surprised they have closed the aqueduct site. It is a new huge car park and we have never seen it anywhere near full. There were never any signs saying that is was a motorhome stop, but there were never any signs saying that you could not park there. We have overnighted a couple of times there without any problems. Lovely place and an easy walk into the walled town.

Have they put up signs now saying no overnighting? Or have they closed the whole car park altogether?

The whole area is closed just empty space.

Wow ..... what a waste of a new and very expensive facility. Where are visitors to the town who arrive by car supposed to park I wonder? The Castle you parked at is a long walk away from the town, which is well worth a visit, and in the middle of nowhere.

I think in the future it would be better to park at the Aire at Terrugem, which is a bit further out, but is in a nice little village and has water and waste facilities. We parked there once and thought it was good.

There is a big parking area to the eastern side of the aquaduct behind the BP garage only a few spaces suitable for overnighting do to steep slope we are parked there now.

The aquaduct area now.

To be honest I have seen it almost as empty as that when we have stayed there! Rarely saw many cars on it and most of the motorhomes turned up later in the day and stuck to the area on the right. Is it actually fenced off or are there signs saying no parking there now? As I said in my previous post I have never seen any signs actually allowing motorhome parking, but nor were there ones prohibiting it.

Lenny, there is an interesting military museum in Elvas which is worth seeing and you can park for free on the road near the entrance gate at the top of the town.
