Lenny's on the road to Portugal

Jeez Lenny, you must have the patience of a saint, How did you manage to stay sane and purchase 3 vans from yer men. Weekend away from sleepin on it and telling them to stuff it. How they are still open for business is astounding. Grrrrrrrr...
Looks like you are having a fab time in Portugal. hope you didnt forget to pack surfboard.
He, he, he, you get used to it.
Don't think we will get far enough south to pop in and say hello.

A couple of days at Foz was enough, pleasant but not a lot to do there. Went up to the Jazz bar the two of us got the customer count up to 3.

Then a visit to Obidos, another one of those places I like, cars have to pay to park, motorhomes free during the day. :D
A lot warmer a couple of miles inland a nice 27°.

I really am in a prison camp tonight at Peniche. Also cold & misty here only 18.
Quite a few free places around the town but this camper stop has a Motorhome washing bay with a gantry, the van is covered in salt from our night on the cliffs a few days ago.

Lenny, if you walk down to the fishing port and enter through the gap in the fence, walk down along the small depots and look for any that are open and just walk in and you can buy fish that have just been landed at stupid prices. I got very fresh sea bream for 2 € a fish. You did well not to park on the free Aire they release raw sewage into the moat at high tide. Stinks to high heaven. Peniche is the biggest fishing port in Portugal so don't miss the opportunity to eat very fresh fish that are as cheap as chips.

Here's another one of that Jazz bar we drank in. The and were phernom and just walked in as Mena and I were sitting there. Prime seats as they just plonked themselves next to us and the 15 minute party started before they went on to the next watering hole. Good musicians too. Unable to upload the video clip on here so picture only.

Good job I took a few pics of the palace when we arrived, a bit of rain this morning. Apart from a couple of evening showers first rain we have seen since leaving home on 17th Sept. Can see the sunshine coming in so just a little blip.

The basilica is in the centre of the palace, not really into churches but this one is quite spectacular.

We thought the palace was going to be a nightmare, crowds of people in the entrance, then I counted 10 coaches and nationals get in free on Sunday morning. With our old fogey discount only cost €3 each for us.
Turned out not to be a problem they were all on whistle stop tours, took 15 - 30 seconds for each coach load to go past they hardly looked at anything and we had the place almost to ourselves with a few other visitors.

The palace contains a Monestry & a Convent and you get to see the Monestry Infirmary.
First 3 pics are the Infirmary, steps lead down from it to the cemetery!

The palace houses one of the finest libraries in Europe. They still use bats to control insects to help preserve the books. They cover the books every night and let the bats out, in the morning they uncover the books and clean the floor.

After our visit wandered around the outside, came across an open door so we wandered in as you do. Huge hallway and halfway down steel bars and gate across on the other side soldiers looks like the military use it as a base. So we turned left down another corridor and around another corner to be met by a couple of soldiers with big guns standing outside a room, to our surprise we were allowed in.
Inside a coffin with a table in front with dress uniform & sword and photo, people paying their respect to some military big wig, whoops wrong door.

Must have been an omen all went downhill from there.
We then headed for Colares, nothing in CC so headed for a place in Park4night, should have known better than to use that crap app. Every time we have tried it's been impossible to park a Motorhome in their POI's. Took us down a lane in the village to a carpark you would have had trouble getting a people carrier in.

Then we headed for a place by the beach in CC this time CC let us down nerve wrecking journey thought a tiny village only to get to a road that no way I was going down. Finally managed to turn round and back through the village to be confronted with the usual woman driver who can't reverse. Finally got back to the main road and headed for a place we stopped at last year, it was chocker block (empty last year, it was a couple of weeks later & midweek).

So now at Cascais, nice carpark.
