@movan
If you want a bit of crochet 20 stitches (chains) long make 21 stitches, as you loose one turning.
Make a chain of 10 stitches, one side the stitches are smooth-

On the back they are bumpy, you work into these bumps.
Put your hook into the second bump from the hook.(effectively loosing one stitch)

Crochet each stitch into each bump.
Crochet to the end of the line & you will have 9 stitches-
Turn the work and make one chain, this is the turning chain,
The first stitch after the turning chain goes into the base of the turning chain,

always put the hook under the two top threads of each stitch.
Work to the end you will still have 9 stitches
I have used a thick wool & a big hook and done it very loose to try to show the stitches.
Don’t forget if you want 10 stitches make a chain of 11 so you loose 1 chain when you turn to do the first row.
Every time you turn make one chain after turning and the first stitch goes into the base of the turning chain
Don’t worry if it goes a funny shape, it’s all in the tensions which you will get in time.
Once you’ve got the hang of it, make a scarf!
Good luck.
At the moment there’s not one of us trainees up to the job
Oh no. Dreaming about it and going potty ... . Not usually a quitter but wondering whether life is too short for me to learn .. I'm rubbish... My four leaf clover type squares are just pointed jumbles of wooly knots.![]()
Giving it a break until tonight. Can't believe some people actually make stuff without even staring at their work!!!!!
Went to a meet once where the men did the strip dance You can take your hat off and stripped down to willie warmers ... (you know who you are)... one of the funster ladies had crocheted them all!!! Now realise how amazing she was.

Crikey Pam if I kept all I’d pulled out I’d have enough for a bedspread but not a very good oneDon't pull out your work. Keep it for a souvenir.
Welcome Jackie .....Hope you have a good journey homeThis is such a lovely thread! You have inspired me. I have a selection of crochet hooks and a selection of crochet cotton just waiting for me to pick them up and make a start. Thank you!
I remember doing the squares like that when I was a teenager so why can’t I get my head round it now ........I’m beginning to wonder if it’s the hook (I know a bad workman blames his tools) it doesn’t seem to have much of a hook on the end I’m going to go to a craft shop in Llandeilo to see what I can get.Hello it’s me again
The square with the ghastly cplours is the one I dislike
The second, using the same colour for the first two rounds has 2 chain spaces at the corners and 1 chain on the sides.
