Learn to crochet?

And here are the photos of the quilt. Fiona (Bride) has seen it under construction but Josh is as yet ignorant. His Mum was in tears when she saw it as she knows how long these things take and she is just overwhelmed that I would spend so many hours making something for her son!!! I told her what each motif meant and that each stitch was a blessing. I had to take out very little so no nasty blue words when making this one! I also left minor imperfections and mistakes in place as no one, no life and no relationship is ever perfect - it is making a harmonious whole that makes life worth living :) well, that's my excuse!!!!View attachment 228844 View attachment 228845 View attachment 228846

Back, front and a close up of some fabric that I saw and loved :)
That's lovely

@Puddleduck I'm blaming the wadding which I bought in bulk from Empress Mills. What wadding do you use?

I use pure cotton wadding - over the years I have used whatever was on special offer :) I also wash it before I sandwich as I had a disaster once when the wadding shrank unevenly. Lots of rude words then.

I find cotton grips onto cotton and that really helps to not get wrinkles or folds. Poly and blends is fine for small items but the first big quilt I ever made using polydown (I think) has lost most of the wadding over the years and is now very flat. I still look at it and think how far I have come.

Once upon a time I said I would never machine quilt as my stitches were dreadful and my hands and wrists and back were agony. I then went on a course over a weekend, we had our own machines but were supplied with trial mini quilts (just cheap plain cotton) and were told do this pattern, do that pattern, then the tutor came and looked at what we had done and made suggestions. We also learnt from each other. I found that I was really tense and I needed to lower my shoulders from around my ears (!!) and even do pelvic tilt exercises every few minutes...... I also learned that you ARE allowed to stop and the best place to stop so it won't show (not the same for everyone).

If you are getting tiny stitches have you taken the pressure off the machine foot as well as dropped the feed dogs? You need to be able to move the quilt and only have the foot press on the fabric as it makes a stitch. You might also want to try a different quilting foot - maybe an embroidery foot - with no spring. Also when you practice use small samples - only 12 or 18 inches wide so you are not struggling with big quantities of fabric in the machine harp ....... oh, have you also checked you are not trapping the fabric ? I have a bad habit of leaning with my forehead on the machine to look down on my work and then find I have managed to trap the fabric between my tum and the table. If there is a mistake to be made I have done it, often more than once, including once sewing my clothes to the quilt..... (don't ask).

Helen @Puddleduck Do you want me to send mine before you go away or when you come back?

Please can you hang on to them? We should be back towards the end of May and our post is on "keep safe". I would hate for the parcel to be returned to you.

Are the Red ones middle top Aldi red wool? If so I've made another 8 in the same colour and two more balls of the same to use.

Yes, they are the ones I did a couple of nights ago. I'm taking the remains of that ball and another full ball away with me so will see what I manage to get done. I also have the wool and hook for my blanket :) I might put the blanket bits into my case and only take the poppy stuff in my hand luggage to do on the train.

7 poppies done so = 48,799

I have been making my sister a poncho with the wool I already had (I think the colours work?!) and have nearly finished. I have a feeling we are going to have a collection of different ponchos haha as there are so many great patterns and they are easy to do in front of the TV.

@Puddleduck Can you come and stay with me for a fortnight?

I'm going to look for cotton wadding now. I need some for the baby quilts anyway because the hospital boil them before use.

I thought I should try and resurrect James' quilt today. It has a marine theme taken from a book called Samplings from the Sea but I was a bit disappointed with the Crossed Canoes block I did this morning. It would have been better if I'd foundation pieced it. Perhaps if I hammer it I will get it to lie flat:eek:.

I must set aside some time to practice on mini quilts.

I've got a few balls of that so I'll use them up.

Pamela @snailtrailer THANK YOU SO MUCH for the beautiful cardigan.

Eden was so excited opening the envelope and wouldn't take it off herself all afternoon. She LOVED the pink paper and the card and started off her chatterboxing as she wrapped the card up in the pink paper to send back to you as a 'thank you card.' lol. :)

I did take some photos on my phone but struggling to transfer them,
but please know that your efforts and talents are VERY much appreciated.... Thank you. I will post the photos when I can sort it out.. :) Hugs from Eden and me. :) xxxxx

Lots of the girls at @old-mo s Meet in the crocheting fun girls and some new ones joined great to see the hooks hooking away on various projects we have kindly had wool donated for our various projects and sharing it out with the crocheting lady’s with lots left over and of course we have Red and black wool for @movan to keep busy.

A flower for Amanda @Ambilkate

While Kate has been busy doing poppies Amanda has been gathering them up and counting them and arranging them in her bedroom and ready does not want to part with them.
So we though it would be nice for her funster friends to crochet some brightly coloured flowers for her then Kate could make them into something special for her bedroom, would mean a lot to Amanda because they will be from her Funster Friends anyone who would like to join in would be great, :)

What a lovely idea Carol, will get started once I get home & have some coloured wool other than red &black x
