Learn to crochet?

I DARE not put this on Morning Funster thread or @Langtoftlad will go mad at me ... not knitting but recycling craft and really sturdy .. can carry quite a weight ... Handy for wool :) etc .. all you need is a newspaper and an old shoe lace or string. It's brilliant.

It's been so cold the last couple of days, I thought I'd make some sunshine flowers and give them to my Mom for her birthday next week :-)

Please consider donating crochet or knitted poppies to your local branch of The Royal British Legion. Locally, we’ve been making poppy brooches for the past three years and have raised more than four thousand pounds.

We put brooch backs on some of our poppies and give them to the RBL to sell. They are always popular :-)

Another six, four red and two purple. Thought I'd done more but can't find them but the neighbours pilfering dog was around so maybe I'll find a stash somewhere!

going to be a grand display for our heroes isn't it. :)

Kate, just do what you can... I havn't added to the number much either, just doing loads of black middles when I get two minutes ready to give it some real woman power when I can.

@hilldweller is Dinah joining us?

Don't know you personally Kate @Ambilkate but sending some PPP from Spain.

Martin asked me last night how many poppies I'd made. 30ish? he said. Had a count up. Here I've got 112 and some at mum's that I made earlier :D.

Some of the first attempts will really need to be hidden/fillers in .

I've still got all summer to crochet. If poppies are no longer needed I'm going to try something more advanced. I've got a throw for the moho bed in mind (y).

I've made a few centres this afternoon as the quilt needed for first weekend in June is FINISHED (shouting from the roof tops as I am so glad to get it done before we go away). It has also been washed and is now on the drying rack. I just need to sign it.

All the construction marks* / guides have washed out with just the one wash cycle so I am a very happy bunny :) I used some cheap pens from Lidl (got them a while back when they had an art and craft special) for the marking after I tried them on scrap fabric. I'd bought the pens to make cards but the ink smeared even at the suggestion of damp so no good for cards but brilliant for quilt marking. (I even tried marking, ironing and then seeing if it washed out and it did).

*From now on I am going to call temporary markings on my quilts "UCGs" - Unique Construction Guides as all other people appear to have acronyms for things they do. lol

I am taking wool and hooks away with me so we will see how industrious I have been when I get back.

Are we having a photo when it is dried? :)

Are we having a photo when it is dried? :)

Yes :) My friend (Groom's Mum) is coming round later to collect the remains of what is in our freezer (I'm going to switch it off when we are away as there is only a few odds and ends left in it - the usual pack of peas plus a pack of pork chops and a pack of sausage, not leaving the freezer running for that!!!)

I'll do photos once we have packed and I can put the quilt on the spare bed for photos. The ground is too wet to do my usual of putting it out on the grass and doing a photo from upstairs :)

Ha ha I started reading your post and thought ...'Why does she have to put it in the freezer?' :)

And here are the photos of the quilt. Fiona (Bride) has seen it under construction but Josh is as yet ignorant. His Mum was in tears when she saw it as she knows how long these things take and she is just overwhelmed that I would spend so many hours making something for her son!!! I told her what each motif meant and that each stitch was a blessing. I had to take out very little so no nasty blue words when making this one! I also left minor imperfections and mistakes in place as no one, no life and no relationship is ever perfect - it is making a harmonious whole that makes life worth living :) well, that's my excuse!!!!

Back, front and a close up of some fabric that I saw and loved :)

And close ups of some of the actual needlework / quilting. It is machine quilted on a domestic sewing machine with the feed dogs lowered / inactive so I am in complete control of the direction of stitching and the length of the stitches (the machine doesn't feed evenly from front to back as with feed dogs lowered that function is disabled).

Stubborn and determined with a dash of idiotic maybe :)

:blusher::blusher::blusher:
I think that sums me up too Helen when I was at physio yesterday there was a student working with my physio and Emma told her I was like a machine and won’t give in .....but I hate admitting defeat and sometimes stupidly push myself over the limit.

@Puddleduck Your quilt is beautiful. I have had no success at all with machine quilting - well not in recent years anyway. I'm blaming the wadding which I bought in bulk from Empress Mills. What wadding do you use? It must be the wadding because I've tried both sewing machines, the Husqvarna Orchidea and the Bernina 730 and just end up with tiny stitches whatever I set the stitch length at - sometimes one stitch on top of another. I end up hand quilting which is not the bit I enjoy.
It is lovely when someone appreciates the work and love you have put into the quilt. Harry's quilt is - apparently - still sitting in the bag I packed it in and didn't go to University as I thought. He has never even thanked me for it, so clearly didn't want a quilt. He is studying Maths and Physics so I thought I was really clever with a quilt made up of hexagons and triangles. Never mind, making it kept me out of mischief.

Just finishing a child's Aran jumper then I'll get back to making more poppies.
