Learn to crochet?

MarionK when I knit socks, two at a time toe up always!!!!, I rib the foot gusset as I think that is neater and fits better. The rest can be as plain or fancy as you wish .... The book I mentioned suggests a re-inforced heel flap using what she calls "eye of the partridge" stitch which I really like. Full and clear instructions in the book which I also like!!!!

This came up on my pintrest feed. I think I might just have to see what happens if I try something similar :) Start with the lining and add the crochet I think.

Did I tell you I won five x 100g balls of DK acrylic in our Norfolk Knitters raffle. That was way back in February. "That'll make me a nice sweater" says husband.

Here we are almost six months later and it's finished. I was pleased with it until Derek says (just as I'm sewing it up) that he wanted a vee neck..........doh! He was there when the pattern was chosen!!!!!!!! It's the same as the last one I made him and I vowed then that was going to be the last one I made for him. The pattern is tricky - no easy purl back row. From now on I'm sticking to charity items.

Well if he doesn't want it I am sure there will be many others who would love it!

My Dad only ever wore V-necks or zip necks as he hated anything close to his throat.

I love it!

Could you undo the neckband and steek a vee neck?

Thank you for your suggestions Helen and Janine. Derek has back-tracked and now says he thought I was doing a polo neck!!! The sweater hung around for a few days - unloved and not tried on - until I suggested maybe he should try it on. I think he likes it really, he's saying soothing things like - nice colour, fits well............... I am still saying that's the last jumper I will make.

I'm now on a dainty 3ply baby cardigan and already done the back and left front. Bliss.

I am finding it just too warm to be comfortable knitting at the moment.

I'm struggling to get anything done at the moment. 5 stitches and I need a rest - problems readings and then understanding the instructions, never mind retaining them.

COVID scrambles your brain
I know how you feel Helen I caught covid at the end of June when I went up to judge at Lincolnshire County Show and I’m still not right. Really bad brain fog and so tired all the time I did have a cough for a while but fingers crossed that seems to have settled down.
Hope you are soon feeling better.

If it’s good enough for Lewis Hamilton……

I love his flamboyance and don’t give a s*** attitude to fashion, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t. I love the outfit although the balaclava is a bit OTT 😆

Sorry you’re struggling with it, hope you get some improvement soon x

What's that saying Helen Puddleduck "Every day I'm getting better and better" Yesterday five stitches and rest, today could be six or seven. Don't push yourself too hard.

I have had to give up crochet for a while as both my thumbs are now seizing up. I am looking at my stash of yarn for octopus making and all the patterns I bought from the Ukraine sellers and wondering if I'll ever get back to them. I will be looking at alternative techniques but meanwhile knitting is okay. I am taking turmeric tablets and rubbing in Deep Heat (when I remember).

I got trigger thumb when I was making a lot of octopuses. Rest - no crocheting at all- has cured it completely but I can still knit, cross stitch etc. I’m quite sad that I’m not making many octopuses now - I’ve tried but my hands just lock up after an hour or so as it needs to be so tight.

Hello all, I’m interested in learning how to crotchet. I’m slightly put off by the fact I’m very left handed and have struggled with sewing, embroidery etc. My late Mum taught me how to knit by sitting behind me and moving my hands the right handed way! Any other lefties here?

Hello and welcome to the thread!
I can’t help with left handed crocheting but I’m sure someone will be along to help soon.

Crochet is the perfect Motorhome hobby - no mess - portable - inexpensive - and (once mastered) therapeutic. I am going to attempt to teach it from my hospital bed. Choose a 5 or 6mm crochet hook “Pony” in the blue & orange pack are widely available and a ball of double knit yarn. Make a slip knot.

These instructions are for right-handed people.

Abbreviations
l/h left hand
r/h right hand
c/h crochet hook

If you have any queries please ask and when we get started please give me feedback. First lesson tomorrow. Apparently there are lessons on YouTube which could be a help.
