Learn to crochet?

Hello funkyfunky and Larafach
Men (and boys) certainly do crochet. Tom Daley - of diving fame - is getting quite a name for himself with his crafty wares. I am on other internet forums where the men are happy to show what they have produced in crochet.

My new stepdaughter is also left-handed so I told her about Bella Coco videos on You Tube. Bella Coco also teaches in UK terms rather than US terms. Just different names for the same stitch but can be confusing if you are not aware.

Keep persevering and if you get stuck give us a shout.

I sometimes help out with demos on behalf of The Handknitting Association at shows and the like. It's crochet as well as knitting and we have quite a few gentlemen as members :)

Last time I was helping out a young lady asked me to show her how to knit left handed - I'd been trying to teach myself to do this with some success so managed to show her basic Continental techniques which she soon picked up and being a natural left hander was faster than me. Within 30 minutes she had rounded up a gaggle of her friends and we were soon having a great time. Age and culture (the young ladies were all veiled) have nothing to do with the love of crafts.

Hi not checked in for a while. Just finished my 6th Persian tiles. Never get tired of this pattern.

SGNV - a cheeky question - where do you buy your thread please?

I want to try to make a lace evening top (to wear over a coloured t-shirt) doing mostly free form Irish crochet.

First I need to finish Under the Sea (all blocks now complete) and also a pink and white dementia blanket but then I can spend evening doing more fancy work - and might learn something!

This just popped up on my facebook page and thought it might keep your fingers busy now the nights are drawing in.

Sorry, don't come on much now as can't see for long but really want to help a local project on poppies coming up.

My search engine is rubbish but I remember somewhere on here were some really EASY /BASIC poppy instructions. Can anyone point me to which page please. Thank you.

My grandson sent me some photos of his little one yesterday I can’t believe she is 9 months old tomorrow. Can’t attach them as they are on my phone and I’m on my iPad at the moment.

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while but I haven’t managed to get to grip with crochet as a van hobby  well to be honest I can’t get the hang of it at all ::bigsmile:

Anyway, we are away and I do miss a bit of crafting and so this trip I have brought some sashiko with me and a bit of embroidery.

My embroidery skills are pretty rubbish but I am enjoying it , a friend gave me a stash of embroidery thread she was finished with which was handy .

Carolyn what is the difference between Sashiko and other embroidery please?

PS What's the little hedgehog thing please?

Hello Joy ,movan I often think of you and hope you are doing ok.

Well, the hedgehog on books is a magnetic needle holder. It was a gift from a friend , it’s pretty perfect for me as I love hedgehogs and books.

Sashiko is Japanese embroidery for decoration and mending , a friend who likes Japanese stuff introduced me to it.

I am doing this with some fabric scraps , I may turn it into the front of a bag as a gift if it comes out ok .

Caroline, Wow. Loving the Sashiko idea. DEFINITELY going to try it once my vision under control. Loe the ide of enhancing scraps of material in colours that I like and then making into something. :) nice one.

I have tried to make poppies for a Peace Garden this last week but forgotten all the basics.... cannot even follow a simple pattern. Eden has been asking me to teach her crochet for a couple of years but I just cannot get across the holding of the wool and control of the needle but bless her she is trying sooooo hard.

Last night we made loads of bookmarks from a pile of birthday, etc., cards for her classmates. God's eyes are still being done and given to the homeless people by her regularly to keep them safe. :). We try and do our crafty bit. :)

Keep safe all.. Hard times. Xx

The nice thing about shasiko is that it can be as intricate or simple as you like.

Susan Briscoe is one of the leading UK experts and has written books on the subject as well as selling supplies. I've been to some of her classes.

Her "Book of the Boro" is on my Christmas wish list!!!!

Just finished blanket for granddaughter. She loves it (phew). She chose the flower motifs. Her colour choice based on her bedroom decor.
she wanted black in it but it deadened the whole thing and I sneakily substituted a couple of darker purple(ish) blues instead.
apart from one corner which is a bit dodgy, it has turned out ok I think.
hope you are all keeping well, big smile, Susan

same here Sus3v

I have all the blocks done of "Under the Sea" and joined them, then ripped out the joining, then joined them and ripped out the joining again. Getting a bit fed up with it but I have promised myself not to start anything else until it is finished.

Are any of you in the Glastonbury area at the moment?

Hope all well. X

Yes, thank you Helen... Just trying to find the person who very kindly left a parcel for me yesterday. :)

I'm not very good detective obviously. :)
