Crochet is the perfect Motorhome hobby - no mess - portable - inexpensive - and (once mastered) therapeutic. I am going to attempt to teach it from my hospital bed. Choose a 5 or 6mm crochet hook “Pony” in the blue & orange pack are widely available and a ball of double knit yarn. Make a slip knot.

These instructions are for right-handed people.

Abbreviations
l/h left hand
r/h right hand
c/h crochet hook

If you have any queries please ask and when we get started please give me feedback. First lesson tomorrow. Apparently there are lessons on YouTube which could be a help.

Auntie Pam
Can a knitwit do it as well?hehe

Lovely Helen scousebird I look jealously at your gorgeous baby stuff as I don’t really have any in my life generally but one of my friend’s girlfriend is expecting in May so at last I can do something. I’ve chosen one of the sheep shaped cot blanket. I would quite like to attempt a little bomber jacket cardi as well.

I’ve just finished this cross stitch which will also be for them, I’ll add the name and birth details when he is born. I know it’s a bit weird but they are real fans but of Grogu and the Mandalorian so I hope they’ll like it. They certainly won’t have to worry about receiving two 😆

That's a good idea. I've got some towelling off cuts left from making reusable kitchen roll for two of the girls which would be great for making some of these for #7 grandsprog as he goes through several per day.

Here you go , yes I had a lot of scraps and got some snap pliers as a present (to myself ::bigsmile:)

As we are off shortly I have decided to try to master crochet in the van.

Ooh no chance of being bored then 😊 You’ve got a lovely selection for the crochet.

My embroidery journal had fallen by the wayside rather and I have just picked it up again today.

I am now trying to get to grips with the Purifying Puritans block....... so far I have ripped the first petal out 4 times and then the second one twice. I am determined to master it ... not sure if the pattern is at fault or it's my interpretation of the pattern.

Jenben.(Aunty) Carolyn, Eden is begging me to teach her how to crochet and yet, no matter how hard I try, I cannot teach this 6 yr old how to do it.

It is ME.. hopeless teacher, not dense pupil... So don't blame yourself. (Eden sends a hug by the way)... :)

If anyone can point me in direction of HOW to teach crochet then I would be grateful..... But not the sex version. ;) Ven. .. :)
My mother taught me to crochet around a brass curtain ring - easier to hold at First - not sure where you will find a brass curtain ring but a keyring ring thing will do - that’s what I use to teach grandchild

Just finished a Big Thing, made largely from scraps stash and odd balls. Cost an additional £4.50 at the shop to make the colours look better.🎉
almost followed the pattern and got most of it right… but I’m pleased with the outcome.
my Ken still not going out - I despair! Might set off in the van by myself if this carries on ☹️🧶

Strange this thread has just popped up as I've dug out my mum's crochet hooks as I've decided to give it a try. I'll be using YouTube videos. Wish I'd asked mum before she passed away 3 years ago, she always had knitting or crochet on the go until her eyesight went. The last thing she knitted was a thick cardy for me as she knew I was always cold 😘 I never mastered knitting, too slow

I did manage to make a couple of Purifying Puritans blocks but not keen on them to be honest. I may see if I can tweak them a little and see if I like them any better :) It's a shame to have two done and then not do anything with them unless I join them and then add borders to make large enough for a dementia blanket.

I am just about to see if the blocks that are being "set" (ie blocked) are dry and then I can assemble them into the second Winter Opulence lap blanket. The first one is all cream but I have added colour to the second. I also have 8 out of 16 "Special Granny" squares made with blue and yellow donated yarn scraps.

The local dementia unit always accepts my knee blankets. I'd take some down for Dad's home but Mum told me they didn't want them which confused me as a couple of the residents had lap blankets last tome i was there and others looked like they would benefit. Maybe I should just post one to the home with a note to ask if they are of use and would they like more.

I think you should do this. I'm sure the home would be really grateful for such a thoughtful and useful gift.
My local home said they could use as many as I could make and would let me know if they no longer needed them. Each resident chooses his or her own and it stays with them (apart from laundering) even when they pass on. I didn't sleep well last night so got 2 more squares finished and 2 part done as I ran out of blue yarn and didn't want to look for more in case I disturbed Martin. I don't know if I should stick at 16 squares and add a very wide border or do 25 ...... I will have to see how much yarn I have left. It's all odds and ends that have been donated but all in blues and yellows so both topical and pretty.
